Baptism of children whilst being divorced
Canuck Mormon replied to sleepless3977's topic in Advice Board
From my own experience, you will need your ex-wife's permission for him to be baptised. If she does not give consent, he will have to wait until she does, or he turns 18. My son wanted to baptised at the age of 8, but his mother talked him out of it and refused to allow it. Now he attends, but I'm not sure he believes. -
I need help with one of my "Best Friends"
Canuck Mormon replied to a topic in Marriage and Relationship Advice
I suggest you write the letter. Pour your feelings into it. Say what you need to say. Then burn the letter and move on. -
But we will always fall short and He will make up the difference.

I thought it was because you're a sucker for punishment!!! Hey Strawberry. Sorry to hear about the troubles in your life. I've been away for a while now as well and just started to post again. Although not always. Life update.................Been married now for almost 6 years. 2.5 years ago me and my wife (who you met) had a stillborn child and our last attempt lasted 6 weeks. So not so great on that front. On the positive front, I do have a 13 year old son (sometimes not so positive) who now splits his time between our house and his mothers. Career is going great, bought a new house last summer and the in-laws moved into the vacant basement suite to help with the mortgage. Oh and we now have a 5 month old puppy!!! She's a German Shepard/Shar Pei cross and already weighs 40+ pounds. Best of luck to you and your family!!

Traditional VS Electronic scriptures. More Spirit?
Canuck Mormon replied to EarlJibbs's topic in General Discussion
I'll admit that I only use electronic scriptures. I have them both on my phone and on my tablet. It is easier for me to read, plus I can instantly look up the references to the lessons as they are linked. My tablet is a Wi-Fi only so there are no distractions as there is no available Wi-Fi in the chapel. My son (13) uses his phone and his iPod for his scriptures. He has been told that he is not to text and his plan doesn't include data, so he can't look at Facebook either. That being said, we have been told to follow the counsel of our leaders. Did they say that you can not use digital versions, or was it only a suggestion? If it's a suggestion, no worries, use what you like. If it was other wise, invest in a set of printed scriptures. -
Just dipping my toe back in, Pam. Testing the waters.Maybe I'll stay longer, maybe not.
-
Maybe the parent should be made to wear a shirt to the mall saying "I'm a bad parent and a bully to my own kids." Guaranteed the parent will never make their kids do that again.

Pam!! That's very insensative! Calling this poor young man a HIPPO!!OOPS, My bad!!!!

Science Fiction writing non offensive to the LDS
Canuck Mormon replied to Hala401's topic in General Discussion
Ever heard of "Battleship Gallactica"? Written/produced, and I think he even directed some episodes, by a Mormon. Steven J. Cannel (I hope I spelled that right, if not, oh well.) -
Personaly I think it's a little creepy. Everyday there's this little toy just sitting there, watching you. And it moves to a different spot everyday. Good thing my son is 12 now and we don't need anything like this.

Seriously? Is this true? I am astonished that they don't require that teachers are trained on this kind of stuff. They are trained to go to Admin. That's the extent of it. They are not to call the police, they are not to confront the person, they are not to do anything (unless witnessing it themselves) except to take the matter to admin. My wife had a student who was exhibiting some odd behaviour. This student was smearing her own feces on the bathroom stalls. They have been told that this is an example of someone who MIGHT have been abused. She passed the information along to the admin, social services was called, and she was never told anything else. Does it suck? You bet. But it is also there to protect the teachers and the school, and the innocent from legal action.

Wow, such hatred for a man, who very few, if any, of us actually know. He did what he was supposed to do, report it to his superiors. He can't go to the police because if it proven false the school could have been sued. My wife, who is a teacher, said that there was nothing else he could do. He reported what he had heard and expected management to handle the situation. She can't go to the police if there is a suspicion of abuse, she HAS to inform her admin team and let them deal with it. Teachers aren't trained to handle these types of situations, but the administration is. The only thing more he could have done was to keep asking about the investigation, but I doubt he would have been told anything about it. Lay off the guy for doing what he was supposed to do.

Who is the most gullible person you know?
Canuck Mormon replied to pam's topic in General Discussion
When I was a mechanic we had an apprentice who was easy to fool. We once sent him to the Napa store to get a can of "smoke" to help loosen a seized part. Well while he was out of the shop, we got the part loosened. He came back with a botttle of "smoke". We opened it carefully and poured it over the part, waited a couple of seconds then the part came loose!!! He was amazed!!!! Thanks to the sounter people at Napa who blew some cigarette smoke into a generical bottle, we had him going for a good couple of months. Second guess would be anybody who believed that Pam was going off of Facebook for a while!!! -
CNN talks about mormon faith. Front page large image
Canuck Mormon replied to bcguy's topic in Current Events
That was a good article. I read it yesterday. Very fair and balanced with no judgement in it at all. Then I read through the comments.:( It always amazes me how people try and tell us what we believe. And if we argue with them, they call us brainwashed. Very sad. -
Happy birthday dr.t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I would get a tatoo of all my kids names (still more to come) with their birthdays beside their names. Then underneath them all it would read "TOGETHER FOREVER!" This I might actually do.............................

Congratulations to the Occupy movement.
Canuck Mormon replied to FunkyTown's topic in General Discussion
I understand that. I had a friend who said it was harder to earn his first million that it was to earn his second million. But he worked his butt off to get that first million. Yes, the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer, but camping out and complaining about it isn't going to make it go away. -
Congratulations to the Occupy movement.
Canuck Mormon replied to FunkyTown's topic in General Discussion
Nope, not being facetious. What are they protesting then? -
Congratulations to the Occupy movement.
Canuck Mormon replied to FunkyTown's topic in General Discussion
So they're protesting thr rich being rich, yet the other day they welcomed Kanye West (rich music performer), Russel Symmonds (the guy who started Def Jam records, also rich), and Reverend Al Sharpton (who's not hurting financially). Seems a little hypocritical to me. If these people want to increase their wealth, do what millions of others do......go out and create it yourself. I wasn't happy with the ammount of money I was making a few years ago, so I went back to school and changed careers. Now I'm making double what I was before. I didn't sit around in a park and complain that others were getting rich. These are my opinions. Feel free to state yours. -
Pride, Sexual Immorality and C.S. Lewis
Canuck Mormon replied to Jamie123's topic in General Discussion
I remember hearing a quote once. I think it was from the scriptures, but am not 100% sure. It goes "Pride cometh before the fall". To me this indicates that pride comes before we sin. So, in a sense, CS Lewis is right, in that before we commit these other sins we are full of pride and think that we know better than He that knows all. Just my thoughts. Feel free to bash and criticise!! -
But what are you doing in a mountain???

I have the Blackberry Playbook and there is nothing for LDS scriptures on it. Frustrating!!!! At least I have them on my phone.

Why not have 3 seperate sections: First Class - No one under the age of 12 Family Class - No one under the age of 4 Nursery Class - Familes with children of all ages Have a hard partition between each section and everyone is happy.
