  1. Rootsweb is free, you just have to sign in before you can use it. But for nearly all of the links at Rootsweb you must be a paying memeber of Ancestry.com. I have never felt that Ancestry.com was worth the money. I will stick to Family Search. Also you might check to see if there are any Surname Lists at Rootsweb. I belong to two. I have gleaned more vital information from my cousins at the Lists than I have anywhere else.
  2. Since when does a Pro-LDS site require the members to develop thick skins? That is a rather hurtful thing to say- If I wanted to develop a thick skin I would frequent an Anti-LDS site. Since when do LDS members treat others harshly, critically, rudely, abusively? These forums should be an extension of Church. All of the members here should treat each other with the same compassion that Christ showed to everyone. Marsha, do you shuck your LDSness when you come to post on this forum? Do you do that when you step outside of the meetinghouse on Sunday? I sure don't. At least I do everything I can not to. Do you think that the men on this forum should shuck their LDSness/priesthood when they come to post on this forum? Yet more often than not they do. With their caustic, rude, biting and hurtful retorts they do. Where is the light of Christ in their responses? It sure hasn't been around lately. I live my religion 24/7- I eat, breathe, sleep, think, cry, laugh, learn, live my religion 24/7. Obviously there are those on this forum who do not, otherwise there would be no complaint - I am not the only one who sees this - Instead of telling us, the members to get a thick skin - tell the offenders to lighten up- put them on Moderator time out (oh wait, they ARE the moderators) - ban then without an explanation. You said that we can write what we want, well that is not true for everyone. I got banned and never once did I write a post that went against the rules of this forum, yet no one has yet had the decency to tell me why I was banned. Jason continues to be extremely disrespectful of the LDS Church and of the LDS Prophets. Yet he never gets banned. I reported a post that Snow made that I felt was way over the top and then the next day when I tried to sign on, I had been banned. So, tell me that didn't get me banned. I dislike the trolls just as much as the rest of you - but if you don't feed them, In Other Words don't answer them and they go away. So don't blame the trolls for the rude, caustic remarks being made to members - that just won't wash. So Marsha, No - I am not going to get a thicker skin. I am going to continue to demand that ALL of the posters post with respect and compassion- I will do so by clicking on the "report" button and by private pm's to the mods, for whatever good that will do.
  3. Marsha,It could just be because it is a direct put down directed to them. When the general jist of the remark is taken that way by several people, then the consensus is- It is a put down.
  4. I do too, except when I have to drive in it.
  5. My computer geek is my Husband , when I mess up my 'puter - he very patiently fixes it. When I crash it - he very patiently hugs me, then fixes it. I absolutely love and adore my husband. I love animals. Even strange and ugly ones. I like to learn about them. I think the Manatee is a great animal - a gentle one. But alas I do not know how to put a picture in my post. That first one you posted - The Leafy Seadragon - the first time I saw that was at the Seattle Aquarium oh probably 6 years ago. My nephews and niece took me there. Each one individually - 4 separate trips. You know, each trip I actually saw something different each time!
  6. ~~Bump~~ Elphaba, have you run out of critters??
  7. Cat Diary DAY 752 - My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from ruining the occasional piece of furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another houseplant. DAY 761 - Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded. Must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair. must try this on their bed. DAY 762 -Slept all day so that I could annoy my captors with sleep deprivation; incessant pleas for food at ungodly hours of the night. -- from the Diary of Puff
  8. Poor Pity Me I can no longer have Death By Chocolate cake or ice cream or German Chocolate Cake, or lemon pie, or blackberry cobbler, or cakes, pies, puddings, ice cream,
  9. I love to play cribbage. I even play cribbage solitare to keep me up on it. I sometimes play solitare on the 'puter - not often though.
  10. I think that is why Father blessed us, His children with intelligence. So that we can have the "what if's", that way we think about situations, ponder them, turn them this way and that. Create other possible scenarios in our minds. Then when a similar situation happens again, we are a bit more prepared for it.Pam, I have been in your situation with rude vendors (not with one commiting suicide, just being rude) - and in placing myself in your shoes in this instance, I think that for me, in the future I would become more patient and smiling with people. At least I hope that I would. I would feel guilt too - big time - any caring and compasionate person would. I would hope that I would be close enough to Father to ask Him to forgive me my being short and snappy with this man, I would ask what He wants me to learn from this, and I would ask that this man find solace and peace now that he is on the other side of the veil. I don't think you are a bad person for being snappy and rude to him. I know you are going to feel guilt, you are a caring person. Just don't carry that guilt around too long. Pam, you are a good person - you truly meant this man no harm.
  11. Who is bickering? There is no bickering going on here, and we all are on topic - except you.
  12. Have you had some one in your family commit suicide? not in my immediate family, my cousins wifes entire family commited suicide - not all at once, they spaced it out over very many years Have you been close to it yourself? Yes I have as a matter of fact - when I was in my teens. Our family was going through such an emotional turmoil with my youngest uncle and his wife and the whole family was affected by thier actions, inactions and selfishness. the bickering, the backbiting, nasty fighting, etc., etc. - my grandmother caught me downing every prescription bottle of pills I could find in the house. Her quick action saved my life We never know what is happeneing in a person's life that they feel that that is the only way out.. We never know how close someone is to breaking point... We never know what they have had to endure to that point. True words Susie. Though I do know that for some, they are doing it to get attention and it goes too far, farther then they bargined for and they end up dead! For some they do it to get back at certain people in their life, thus they are doing it out of revenge - or to get even. " I'll Show You - bang!" For some it is a last desperate act to get away from a life they feel is hades on earth. It is never our place to judge.Again, true words - but nearly impossible to follow through on. When it was my girlfriends husband who committed sucide I was so shocked. There had been no warning signs that I could see. No depression, etc. Then I was so angry with him- how selfish of him! He left a wife and two children to clean up after him. He rented a motel room and blasted himself with a shotgun. The motel actually charged her for the room for two weeks, and the cost of clean up!! She refused to find out if she was legally responsible, she paid - well, her freinds and family did - we held a bake sales, car washes and put collection jars all over town, to raise the funds to pay for that and for his funeral. When it is someone who is close to you, or in like in Pam's case a vendor that she was acquainted with, we go through such a range of emotions: Guilt, remorse, anger, grief, resentment, unbelief - and not in that order. It is important to remember that we are human beings, and that feeling any or all of these emotions is normal. If you are really racked with guilt - then take it to Father, because only He can apply the balm to that hurt.
  13. I have known several people who have taken their own lives - and I was shocked at each one. There was no "warning" signals or signs. I agree with you Ben, that those who take their own lives are not mentally well.
  14. Lighten up Ogre - you are just a tad bit too grumpy. You are sounding like an old man whose piles are acting up!
  15. No, for the most part Jason is not a good guy. He is also extremely rude and obnoxious. In the past he has been put on moderator time outs because of his caustic remarks. I for one have put him on ignore because the moderators here on this board don't have the moxy to tell him to shape up and to curtail his nasty and snide remarks. OR to cease with his noxious remarks about the LDS Church. But of course this is My personal opinion.
  16. Because of health issues I could not use manufactured items for the six years prior to my "change of life" (menopause). It took me a bit, but I found reusable pads. These were so expensive that I designed and made my own from cloth baby diapers. I was satisfied with the not so pretty but very utilitarian item. For the cost of one dozen diapers, a 12 pack of inexpensive white wash clothes, a roll of waistband elastic, a package of plastic hooks used for swimwear, thread and a sewing machine - I was all set. These have served me well for those last six years and they are still in servicable condition.
  17. Yep, that is Regress alright.
  18. I suggest you search out an Al-Anon group near you and go. Take your brother too. Check it out on-line, then hunt down a group close to you and go. http://www.al-anon.org/english.html
  19. What a hoot you are! I can just hear him. Brigham: If I hear one more peep out of either of you, I am going to come back there and . . . Eldridge and Clayton in unison: PEEP, PEEP - snork, giggle, OH NO, here he comes, quick run . . . . . .
  20. HUH??? You would replace these items only when they are in good working order? Anoher HUH??? Annabelli, you really do not make sense 95% of the time. Do you actually proof read what you write?
  21. What an ol stick in the mud!
  22. Annabelli Posted Yesterday, 11:39 PM I never once stated that LDS Native Americans were cooking up meth. I never stated that NA's cooked meth. I said that I lived next door to meth cookers - and did not specify their race, religion nor did I even specify thier gender or age. There are NA's who are from ALL over the continental USA, not just the states that you mentioned. Why did you not include them in your list? Are you discriminating against them? Or did you not know of the numerous tribes that are in all of the other states? What I said was the roads leading to the reservations here in this part of Arizona are littered with beer bottles and wine bottles. This is exactly what I said: YOU, Annabelli are putting the NA in that sentence, not me.My husband and I would prefer to live nestled amongst the Amish or the Mennonites because then we would be assured that there would be no druggies/meth users-cookers there. There would be no loud parties, no filth littering their property and those of their neighbors. The land adjacent to them would be free of trash, and pollution. Can you tell me where there is a concentration of LDS Members who are living like the Amish or Mennonites? Because if anyone knows of such - please let us know - we would much rather live amongst the LDS - but I have never heard of any LDS who have gathered themselves together such as that. AND by LDS - Annabelli - I mean members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Now, Annabelli, please be so good as to explain your question to me regarding my attendence of the Temple. I was polite and honest enough to answer you and now I would like an explanation as to how that question even applies to my post.
  23. 'Um, what is the man doing in all of this. He is part and parcel of the pleasure Traveler? why hasn't he had himself fixed? Yep, just like one does to pets, if you are a responsible pet owner that is, you take your pets in and have them neutered and spayed. Thus if the man is participating in all of this pleasure business, then let him take himself to the Dr and get himself fixed. For that matter, the women you are talking about should go and get themselves sterilized also. If all they wish to do is have pleasure and not have babies, it would be infinitely easier, cheaper and way way easier on the ol bod to just have the factory ripped out and leave the play pen! That way they are not committing murder. El - I agree with you. I have known too many women (young women) who have had abortions. Nearly every one of them did not make that choice lightly. Nearly every one of them had been raped by relatives and did not want to risk having a child. One was gang raped by men she did not even know and for her it was the best decision. I also know one woman who used is as a form of birth control - 5 abortions in as many years. The sixth was her last - literally- she died from it. She left three living children for her very aged mother to raise. I, too, wish those who do not want their unborn child would adopt them out. BUT that is their choice. Actually, the only true way to do what Traveler is saying - getting rid of the mentality is by sterilizing those who have the bad mentality. Oh, wait - isn't that what Hitler wanted to do????
  24. Annabelli, what do your comments have to do with what I stated? If nothing, then why oh why did you quote me?
  25. 'Fraid not Annabelli, I am not about to adopt a highway and have no say what so ever regarding the louts who befoul it - say like fine them $1K for the first offense and then $1K and make them clean up 100 miles of roadway per each additional offence, when the greater portion of Arizona does not give a rats tail what it's state highways look like. During the summer months there is no way I can even go outside and keep my small area clean that the stinking louts befoul as they drive to the next city and/or reservation. It is too blasted hot, and I can not keep up with them. Now I have druggies living on two sides of me, who toss their garbage outside and let the wind blow it all over. Yes the Enforcement Agencies know about it. No nothing has been done. Like I said too many of these great and wonderful residents of Arizona do not give a rats bottom about the cleanliness of their state. Move out of the State - we are looking, but hubby has not yet retired and we aren't moving until he does. I am doing my best looking for places that border Amish or Mennonite properties. We both have decided that we prefer living next to them! If there is no LDS Meeting house within a 50 mile radius, then we will just go on-line and read from lds.org. That is how serious we are about where we prefer to live. Both of us are sick and tired of the human pigs who befoul their own living areas.
