  1. Might be better off contacting Church Employment in Salt Lake for that one there. You'd need to be top of your game with lots of experience I should expect.
  2. My answer is C. We're already living in one, and have been since the first warning label was put on a product.
  3. I thought this was cool, guy is a complete and utter nutcase.
  4. Everyone complains about the nanny state, legislating good and safe behaviour. I've got bad news. We're already living in a nanny state. As soon as something for our safety gets legislated (seat belts, motorcycle helmets, reflective jackets, fall arrestors, safety on construction sites) that is the "Nanny" becoming stricter. Well, guess what, since the nanny state in the UK started legislating Health and Safety on construction sites, deaths and serious injury due to work place injury plummeted. Yes, the workers complained about nanny state, but more are alive and working now than there would have been if the legislation had not been passed. Although, it is still optional, but the employer gets in trouble if they don't provide the equipment, even if the employees decide not to use it.
  5. do you think your taxes would go up by more than current health insurance bills, bare in mind you wouldn't need to pay them? also because everyone pays the economy adjusts to it? its kind of like tithing it goes out of your pay packet and was never yours in the first place:) -Charley
  6. In the UK its split we pay National Insurance and Taxes they are separate. The NHS is not free - it is free at the point of entry We pay for my families healthcare and insurance in case we become unemployed or sick less than £3000 a year and that should not be translated into $ because someone earning £35,000 here would usually earn $35, 000 in the states - that is roughly our National Insurance bill, for that we get everything, a useful phone contact, Drs that come out and visit, in Scotland it includes dental (if you can find a dentist lol) and eye check ups. For our children under 16 all prescriptions, dental treatment and glasses. For me being pregnant also I get all prescriptions and dental treatments until my baby is 1. I will get all my maternity care looked after. Those on low incomes also get free prescriptions. We do not have to pay for ambulances. You can go private if you wish. If my husband loses his job we do not have to pay anything until he finds a new one - and we will receive same treatment. You can even get expenses paid travelling to the hospital. We were paying over half what we are paying now for our own family on a much reduced income for just my husband at one point in the US and had we been in the US, plus he would need to pay out for an awful lot of extras we don't here, we'd have had taxes as well. Oh and it subsidises my personal care for my illness If my husband earns more he pays more, if his wages get cut as is happening to many people they pay less. -Charley
  7. An essential part of a nanny state is the ability to read our thoughts. There are already a couple satellites able to do this for small areas, as well as vehicles with the requisite equipment. The only way to prevent this mind reading is with tin-foil around the cranium. If we were to include this tinfoil within the helmet, we could be safe while skiing, and have our privacy.
  8. You need the tinfoil lined ski helmets for that one just_a_guy
  9. It is a good read, and actually doesn't do a bad job of keeping the principles discussed at a level that can be better consumed by the general public. I liked the quote from Kochen, It connects quite well with what Hemi said about obedience. For me, this is not a threat to my religious principles, just even more evidence that Heavenly Father is in control, since even these most basic of particles have the choice to obey or not.
  10. Too much to respond to Fiannan, good post BTW. I know this doesn't happen in all instances, but sometimes women who live in close quarters (i.e. same household) will get their period at the same time. Imagine two (or more) women, with the mean & grouchy PMS, going through it at the same time, under the same roof. Now that's not worth dealing with.
  11. Princeton University - High-powered mathematicians take on free will The easy version We can't know the next state of a quantum particle, because it's next state will be the result of one of two possibilities. The next state of the particle, and all other successive states can't be predicted, because the next state can be one of two possibilities. The suggestion is made that these particles have the ability to chose their next state. Now, for the discussions on what this means to us as religionists and thinking people.
  12. Popped in to my head, and just had to use it. Anyhow, back on topic. I think things have changed,Satan's tactics have certainly changed. People will pretend to be possessed, and someone else will pretend to cast it out... saw that a few times. Not sure if a possessing Spirit can leave it's possessee at it's choice as a tool to deceive many. I've not cast out from people, but I have from places, not just consecrating a house. I needed to use the Priesthood for that.
  13. Wasn't it something like "I know who you are on about, but you don't have the authority. Hold still while I beat you to a bloody pulp, thanks."
  14. From my personal experience Women are better hunters than men (My mom was a better shot and tracker than my dad, despite his military training) Women can park better (I'm terrible at parking) Next?
  15. As a motorcyclist in California, I appreciated my helmet. As a skier in Colorado, I don't see the point. When you're travelling at 70MPH and the oncoming semi kicks up a rock that bounces off your plexiglass visor, putting a pit in it, you'll gain the same appreciation. The only time I could have done with a helmet was when I got on the wrong ski lift and wound up on a Black slope, rescued by the ski patrol after a bad fall. Some of my snowboarder friends wore helmets on the slopes, even before the Bono thing.
  16. In my branch, about 1/2 of the people that pay Tithing, also include a fast offering. Those fast offerings did not cover the outgoing welfare payments of the unit. Yes, it's made up for on the Stake level, but I'm not privy to the Stake numbers to know if we are in the red in welfare payments. If paying your Fast Offering puts you onto Church Welfare, then that defeats the purpose.
  17. I may have missed something, as I haven't read through the thread in it's entirety. We're at the stage of deciding if this'll be our last kid. Aside from condoms (We're of the same opinion), there's numerous variants of "the pill" and a male contraceptive pill is in the works, but not effective, and with too many side effects at last count. There are also some implants that are not major surgical procedures, including IUD's and even patches. See if you can find a proper Family Planning Clinic. If there are real health reasons for preventing pregnancy then it should be covered... then again, I've been on NHS for a few years so don't really know.
  18. It's all about marketing, record label dominance, and the RIAA stranglehold on American radio. I do know that there are dedicated Christian music radio stations in America, just not nationwide. they won't get the same financial backing that your other stations will get. Christian Music: Christ-centered but corny; sugary-sweet syrup. I think that is part of the reason right there. The other part is the size of the audience.
  19. Not a dedicated of Sunstone by any stretch of the imagination, but after reading a few articles, including the aforementioned article, I find the writing to be of a poor standard. I find the few "scholars" that I read to be unscholarly and derogatory. Also I read some downright un-christian ideas put forward by the authors. If this is intentional, to prompt thought, I do not know, but it's not something that I would be proud to share with my LDS friends. It is a shame. Heck, they can't even write a website that treats special characters correctly. As a technical person who reads RFC's and European Building Codes, I expect a certain degree of professionalism that Sunstone appears to lack.
  20. There are quite inspiring parts of the Book of Mormon. For me,I will just open randomly and read where it opens. Re: Jim108 Perhaps you can read 3 Nephi 11 and onward, which is Christ's ministry to the people of the Book of Mormon. Good section.
  21. First stop is your bank, at least it would be for us in the UK. Also, your bank's competitors. Although, with interest rates as they are now, many banks won't be able to offer high savings rates. After all, it's the money they make on loan interest and investments that is used to pay the interest on the saver's accounts.
  22. Adam's transgression brought physical death into this world. It also brought Spiritual death, sin into the world. As a result,we are here. We are not responsible for Adam's actions. We will be judged by our actions, that is what that Article of Faith states. It is not in conflict with what you quoted from Romans.
  23. Get a wheelchair. Seriously, you get to bypass lines, even fast-pass stuff, so does the rest of your party. :-)
  24. Are you sure that this painting isn't what you're thinking of?
