What do we do when God decides that temporal riches are not for us, despite following your book? -
The Science of Getting Rich GOD's Way
gabelpa replied to sgrGODSway's topic in LDS Resources and Information
I think the issue is in defining riches a good seamstress doesn't need to be Marriot or Bill Gates to clothe the naked, a good farmer may not be wealthy but without huge funds can feed the poor, my first career choice could have lead to captives being freed or for that matter incarcerated. When Bill Gates, Marriot etc wrote their first programme or opened the first hotel was the goal to do that task good or was it focus on riches in my opinion and experience and I grew up around and still mix with some very wealthy people is that, is to create something that is usually unstable. My Uncle and Aunty were a good policeman and nurse, my Uncle made his way in life and became wealthy because of his incredible honesty, instead of focusing on the riches like many did and cashing in on the corruption and bribery going on around him, he forged a career in anti corruption that was world reknowned. My other Uncle if you asked him what he did for a living would tell you he was a builder which is true but he owned a major construction company his goal to do his job well. Like Jacob says we don't seek riches we seek God then everything we receive is riches, we have more to give because we use only what we need, our needs are less etc -Charley -

The Science of Getting Rich GOD's Way
gabelpa replied to sgrGODSway's topic in LDS Resources and Information
God knows everything. If by knowing,He has chosen our fate, well that's a whole new debate. God knows what is best for us. Does God want us to become prosperous, and work hard at prosperity, at the sacrifice of our Salvation? How can we be sure that our charitable desires for riches will not turn against us, to greed? -
Sort of a silly question about the Big Love thing...
gabelpa replied to Jenamarie's topic in General Discussion
Trademark needs to be defended in all cases or risk losing it. This is not so with copyright, otherwise the MPAA and RIAA would have lost most of their work to the public domain by now, through lack of prosecution. Personal rant left out. -
This whole Big Love thing.. I don't care. It is a calculated move to increase viewing figures.

That is correct. We have more extensive footnotes and cross-references than many other Bibles, plus cross-referencing into the other Standard Works. The actual scriptural text is the King James version. The Joseph Smith Translations are not added into the text, but are an addendum, and contained within the footnotes.

I think that there are many more gifts of the Spirit than what you listed. Just as there is no list of the ways in which we may sin, there is no list of the gifts we may be given by our Father in Heaven. We only know of some of these gifts. I noticed that your list also misses out other manifestations of the Spirit, such as Revelation, Speaking/Interpretation of Tongues, Healing, etc. We are all imperfect, and falter. Not all will receive all these gifts. When Jesus cleansed the Temple, was he meek, gentle, or peaceful?

Do you know why he's inactive, and if he's interested in coming back to activity? I think what he needs more than a love, is a friend who is willing to help him back to activity, if that is what he wants.

Here is my experience, from my father. He served in Vietnam, not a frontline soldier, but close enough to the action that the nightmares of combat stopped about 10 years ago, 7 years ago, he passed away. He kept, for home defense the following: a 12 gauge shotgun with birdshot, a .45ACP handgun in a safe, and a combat knife in his bedside table. His bedroom was one point of entry. By the security-guarded front door we had a baseball bat. In my room, close to the last point of entry, there was a 9mm handgun (cable locked), and a combat knife. It was possibly excessive, but I believe my dad had mild PTSD from his military service. The main thrust from what he taught me, was to meet force with overwhelming force. It didn't matter what the enemy was armed with, they had to be stopped, be it with a knife, gun or frying pan. Here in the UK, I would be reliant upon improvised weapons, the wooden dowel my son uses as a spyglass, the metal tubes on the vacuum cleaner, knives from the kitchen, etc. I know I've said it before, but in the home, and even wherever you find yourself, there are always weapons.

youtube is a sort of safe haven for the posting of copyrighted work, at least until they get served with a DMCA Takedown Notice from a copyright holder. Personally I would use Firefox, with the "YouTube Comment Snob" plugin which removes profanity, bad grammar, bad spelling, etc (customizable). When you post a link to dynamic content, there may be no profanity when you post it, but when I look at it, someone has used profanity in the lapsed time.

Just tell her to ask him out on a proper date, kiss him and get it over with. no matchmaking silliness.

What do LDS think they are saved from?
gabelpa replied to ErikJohnson's topic in Christian Beliefs Board
What is your purpose now LittleNipper? Are you trying to dissuade LDS from a path which they have chosen? Why are the LDS wrong, and your restricted world view and religious view right? Are your beliefs perfect, and complete? I could ask you some other questions which I believe you could not answer, even if you believed your system of belief to be perfect, and complete. I won't, as I do not believe that you would actually answer my questions. Go ahead and prove me wrong. As an aside,I think this thread has come away from it's intended purpose, and either needs to be closed, or put back on-topic. -
Well, we hope you'll stick around. Having a sibling go off to College is stressful, and for those attending, getting some form of independence is difficult, both for the student and those that he is seeking independence from.

I have wanted to get into Martial Arts, but have never had good luck with schools. I started with Wing Chun locally, good fun, and well suited to me, but the instructor moved his classes to Sunday, right in between Gospel Doctrine and Sacrament. I then found a Freestyle Wado Ryu Karate school locally. I still walk with a limp from an injury sustained there 3 years ago, and have been awaiting physiotherapy so I can find some other school.

Well, I'm a California Mormon, we don't do things like green jello with carrots. We put our green jello into a sushi roll. A California Mormon roll.

Lily, I know the place you are coming from, as I've been there myself. Depression is a . If Satan can convince you that you are unworthy of repentance, unloved as a Child of God, and of no Eternal worth, then he can do with you as he wants. For me, I still have trouble feeling unworthy, and worthless. It is difficult, but with the loving support of those around you, it's possible to keep your head above water, and to make progress. Your husband should be your first port of call, if you haven't already done so yet, talk to your husband about what you are feeling. Get a blessing from him, with consecrated oil. You don't need a comfort blessing. You are in need of a blessing that requires the application of the Atoning blood of the Saviour. Your husband's involvement is paramount. He is the patriarch of your home, and entitled to Revelation for your home. Heavenly Father can tell him exactly what you need, what he can do, and who else to ask for help.

Oh my goodness, whatever shall we do? A fallible person made a mistake. Oh no! It's the end of the administration! All our hopes are lost!

One of the new crisp flavours that Walkers is getting people to vote on is called cajun squirrel. (un?)fortunately, as a missionary in Texas I never ate anything more exotic than catfish I caught myself while working with a part-member family. No roadkill cafe locally. I will say though, a couple years or so ago, we had a Missionary in our area ask me about storing a grouse that he had hit with the car while driving, my parents were hunters and passed on a bit of knowledge to me. According to his companions, he aimed for the animals on the road, so he could dress them and eat them. He was from Arkansas though, and they're just weird... On another vein, there's currently a Criminal Minds on, has a quote I like. "You don't need a gun to kill someone."

What about My dad taught me those rules before I got my first pellet gun, let alone firearm.

You don't need to usebig letters. Most of us do, and every modern web browser has a way of making text larger if we need it to be. -
The vodka idea is good, if you can get a good head on some apple juice, set out glasses of "beer" for both Elders, telling them that the previous ones always had a drink before the lesson. I can't think of any other tricks off the top of my head.
