  1. Interesting! I worked as a dental assistant for a while and learned about infections in the tooth root. This would require one to have a root canal. On occasion patients would come in with swollen faces because of the infection. The dentist would drop everything he was doing to extract the tooth and relieve the infection. If left to itself, it would eventually cause the veins to get blocked and blood would not get to the brain eventually killing the person. In a world with no dental hygiene, how common would this have been??
  2. Haha xD but on a serious note: On my mission, the phrase "But I see assistants *insert questionable Activity one could do on a mission*" became an end all to missionaries seeking to bend the rules. A leader's sin does not permit my sin.
  3. There is no denying a lot of scripture has gone under a lot of editing, but the Book of Mormon has not. Mormon Abridged it and the church has made minor adjustments. I think the point to be discussed is not whether one views a few stories in the scripture as being parables with moral lessons, but rather viewing all of scripture as being nothing more than a giant parable to teach us how to live. I don't see how someone could truely have faith in God if they don't believe the very records that testify of him are not real accounts.
  4. I think it stems from the "no coffee" rule. People assume it is because of the caffeine.
  5. I don't know. But I wonder how a "faithful member" could live the gospel to its fullness and deny that it is all true without rationalizing it was nothing more than "good and moral teachings".
  6. I'm not one to say "abstain from soda or you lose the spirit". But I do acknowledge that caffeine is a mind altering substance (even if it is just minor effects) and will never benefit our health under any circumstance. Sugar on, the other hand, does benefit us. As long as it is in moderation. That is where my stance is. I strongly believe that the overall health of BYU is going to diminish. Not to say everyone will be obese in 20 years, but health in general. No body needs caffeine.
  7. There is a bit of a difference between caffeine and sugar. Caffeine does absolutely nothing for you, it can only cause damage and addiction. Sugar, on the other hand, provides energy, which is good for you. Over consumption of one type of energy is bad for you hence why we don't really need any more in our diet.
  8. My own thoughts: It was along the Arabian Peninsula. I imagine it was one of my comments that caused a spark in this comment 1 Nephi 2,4, and 16 reference their journey being along the Red Sea. Chapter 16 is the START of their journey so you could speculate they started at the Red Sea and then traveled east... but doesn't make much sense. They also did require a Liahona for their journey. If it were along the sea shore they were traveling then why would they need a device to show them the way? Maybe because they would need it later in their journey and they needed to learn the mechanics of it and gain a testimony on it before they needed to rely wholly on it? It does say that they went "up to the wilderness" and "down to Jerusalem". After looking at some elevation maps, it appears that would NOT be west (granted this could just be a symbolic meaning of the wilderness being a higher place spiritually than Jerusalem).
  9. Perhaps Enoch's was a vision and the Brother of Jared's was not?
  10. I do! Think of all those poor Cotten picking whites after slavery wash abolished! Poor souls
  11. When it comes to being offended, the person taking offense is almost entirely to blame. Henceforth my comment on another topic "If someone is offended... then they deserve to be offended". You decide where your priorities and beliefs lie, you decide what does and does not offend you.
  12. Correct (in my opinion). It says they followed the Red Sea in a "near east" direction. Bountiful is likely what is now modern day Yemen/Omen. If they sailed across the Pacific, they would need to go around Africa. Doesn't make much sense x)
  13. These are obviously evil, yet seen as good
  14. I agree. I feel it stems from the left few on freedom of expression and "equality" of outcome. feminism in the vilest of forms, gender neutrality, entitlement, breaking of gender lines, recreational drugs. All are either good or gray areas. Very few see these as evil.

  16. At the hotel I work at, we do not allow pets. But do allow service animals. ESA are not service animals but people tend to use the same terminology for both. It can become a complicated situation if I see an animal, say no to allowing it in the hotel, then I'm told it is a service animal and I can't confirm because I can't ask for registration, I allow it on the hotel, the animal damages the room, person doesn't have liscence for the animal and they get charged for the damage, and they leave a nasty review for the hotel because we said we allowed service animals when they "had one" but really didn't. In general, I disagree with emotion based laws. I have an unchrisrlike principle I tend to go by that goes like this. "If someone is offended... then they deserve to be offended."
  17. I can a picture 2 large men in suits come storming out of the sacrament preparation room/area and drag him from the podium note: I sometimes wonder if my comments in the forum are read by people investigating the church and don't catch on to my sarcasm...
  18. My mind read your statement like this "Yeah, since it was obviously agenda based hopefully church leadership will pull him aside and beat him."
  19. Interesting... I always find it quite humorous when Ward members take opportunities like a congregational prayer, testimony on fast Sunday or an opportunity to speak at church to push their beliefs on the Ward. There was a man in a Ward I served my mission in that would prayer quite loudly and say things pertaining to the end of times... it felt more like an mini talk in the middle of his prayer xD a few times he chastised the Ward for not giving enough attention to the end of the world. Or when a member in the same wars got up on fast and testimony meeting and bore testimony on the end of the world and how it will be brought on by muslims. Or in the Ward next to it, a lady would bear testimony of heavenly mother every month. Im not sure if this particular occasion fits in to what I described, maybe it was just a slip up of words?
  20. I myself live ina small town in Southern Utah where the air VERY clean. Southern Utah is the best! A lot of the "LDS" community you speak of is experienced at church. If you don't go to church, you may not experience a ton of it. The second greatest opportunity to experience the community would be at family oriented events. If you don't have a family, this too may be difficult. That being said, all your neighbors will love to meet you and develop friendships . If I became single and left the church... I would likely stay in Utah. From what I understand, the economy here is still growing. You are definitely not a milk cow! Employers love and respect hard work and strong ethics, most people will treat you well
  21. Why in the world did you get reactions and not me!?
