That's my point, though. You can still attend an hour or two of church now. The length of church isn't the issue. It's the amount of time you can/will dedicate to it.

Guess I need to start leaving my Sig at home and bring the tupperware.

In all fairness, I don't believe if you aren't going now you'll start going if it's shorter. People just come up with new excuses to justify what they know to be wrong. There are three hours every Sunday the Church asks you to participate. Nobody locks the doors. People come late and leave early every Sunday.

My family isn't LDS. I'm a convert. I converted BECAUSE of the truthfulness of the doctrine and the "we serve God regardless what public opinion is". If I'd wanted watered down religion there are plenty closer to my house that I could choose from. That said, I'm not getting worked up about "what ifs" and I trust the Prophet has a plan from God that will make perfect sense to me if and when it's rolled out.

I echo this. It seems like most of the "guesses" or "hopes" seem to be geared toward lessening the time we are worshiping or doing Christ's work. They want less time in church, remove studies, relaxation of church organization, etc. I want those things strengthened. I'd love to see stronger study sessions, supported by structured at home lessons. I'd hate to see my Gospel Principles class go away. I'd love to see more community activities supported by the church. My ward does well, but we can always do better. Beyond that, I'd love to see changes that strengthen our church and move us forward, not weaken it or water it down to assist the members who have a heavy focus on worldly activities.

Predictions on policy changes during conference?

Perhaps. However, it goes both ways. "I want less time working for Christ so I can spend relaxation time at soccer" isn't very Christlike either. -

I raise tons of animals. I love them all. I still eat them, though. -

I'm pretty confused by this post. Here are just a few thoughts that came to mind. Please don't take this as accusatory because I honestly don't mean it that way. I'm trying to put myself in your position. My family runs something like yours. I'm up at 0400 every day to read the scriptures. I don't have time at night. I'm off to work before my family rises. My wife gets up, gets the kids off to school, and goes to work. In the evening we reverse the process adding in sports practices, evening meetings, member dinner visits, ministering, etc. Saturdays are sports games, farm work, and more of the above. Like you, we needed to find some sanity time. It's interesting that to note that you said: "Instead, the "Church" has made our Sundays long, drawn out and full of busywork that frankly has nothing to do with our ultimate goal of meeting our Heavenly Father again and reaching the Celestial Kingdom." I find that an odd thought that your work at Church is viewed as having nothing to do with meeting Heavenly Father. That work has EVERYTHING to do with it. That's why, when we need sanity time, we find that time in other activities, not those that involve doing His work. -
My beautiful bride, for one.

I love linger longer! -
I love those that are tormented by this and can't imagine what they are going to. However, that love doesn't require that I participate in their delusion.

You're confusing separate with unequal. Are you suggesting that because my wife has her car in her name I didn't buy it for her? That I have no stake in it? We're married. We're one.

I've been a fan since childhood, so sadly know far more about him than I should admit. He's 77.
-
I know many people who have separate bank accounts while having zero trust issues, myself included. I don't really see my relationship as "equal" though. My wife is a much better person than I am. I don't know why she's with me. We have our names on each other's accounts, but use our own. I think it's because we trust each other so much that this works. We manage our accounts differently and the styles don't match. This makes things easier.

No kidding. He's pushing 80.

God's Motivation and other Lost Boy Questions

Why do any parents let their children learn through failure? What do we get out of raising our own children? It's interesting that you post this because it seems so obvious to me, yet I'm not sure how to articulate it. I'll give it some thought and hope one of the smart people come along and do it for me. -

He enjoys it, it's just too long for him. He was more surprised that it was so long. He didn't mind. He's pretty tolerant. -
Sigh. I like Mormon Hub.

That's funny. My father was visiting this weekend and came to church with us (he isn't a member). At one point he leaned over and said "did that guy just say 'third hour?'" I said "yep, THEN we get to have a linger longer today. Don't worry, there's food involved." -
It must stink. However, that doesn't change my knowledge that Joseph Smith is a Prophet called by Heavenly Father to kick things off.

I thought I was going to get some Dr. Demento.
