  1. 17 years together and THIS is how I find out my wife and I don't really love each other? That stinks.
  2. As a newer convert, I know what's on the other side of the font. I remember it well. I thought I had a perfect life before. Good job. Happy marriage. Good family. I'm amazed at how my happiness improved after adhering to the gospel as closely as I can. My marriage is better than I could imagine. I'm a much-improved father and husband. I was helping someone I minister yesterday and he seemed shocked that someone as new as I am could hold a Temple recommend (limited). He's been a convert longer and struggles with a few things. I couldn't imagine NOT having a Temple recommend. It's like having a golden ticket that improves my life. I don't follow the Prophets so I can say I have a piece of paper. That's just a bonus. I follow the Prophets because it brings me closer to The Christ, which improves my life in every way.
  3. FYI, this turned out to be fake. However, in my opinion, your advice is sound if someone should stumble upon this post in the future.
  4. I'm not sure I can answer your question on sincerity. I can offer some sincere advice if you're willing to accept it. This is given with the belief that you want a confirmation. I felt the same as you do when I was an investigator. I would read the Book of Mormon and any other material I could find and pray for confirmation. Somewhere along the way, I heard a talk developing a testimony. It spoke of having the desire for your beliefs to be true and then acting upon that desire. It spoke of living your life as though your testimony were strong and following the Prophets. When you act in faith, you gain confirmation. I really enjoyed this message: My experience was a gradual increase of light. After living in faith for a short period, I looked and realized I had a testimony. Even though I still wasn't "ready" to be baptized, once I had that understanding the confirmations came fast, furious, and very obviously. I'm not sure this helps you at all, but I hope it is encouraging. Here are a few talks on the subject: https://www.lds.org/youth/article/gaining-and-keeping-a-testimony?lang=eng https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2006/10/the-power-of-a-personal-testimony?lang=eng
  5. If it's relevant to the topic, I answer it as best as I can and encourage others to help. If it isn't, I keep the discussion on track.
  6. Many people break down at the thought of facing responsibility for their actions. However, to truly get on the right path it is necessary. You can fake your way past the Bishop, but not Heavenly Father.
  7. And now you've skipped from wanting a discussion on politics to being blatantly insulting.
  8. I'm glad I saw this post. I really don't care what other nations think about our president. Most of them have already handed the keys to their lives to their overlords.
  9. Which is what I said: he's looking for confirmation.
  10. Correct. However, the title to this thread is misleading. He asked "what would you do" then denounced anything except what HE would do. He wasn't looking for opinions, he was looking for confirmation.
  11. Whatever helps you sleep at night. Good luck.
  12. I think you'll find you are incorrect and are confusing PIP with collision. That said, you should be letting your insurance company handle it. That's why you pay them. He'll get his money eventually. Either way, I personally would make sure he was made whole because it's the ethical thing to do. YMMV.
  13. That isn't what "no fault" means. Your insurance will typically cover your own repairs (then they often go after the other party's insurance). That doesn't make YOU liable for your own repairs.
  14. There is a law on the books that requires collision and comprehensive, or liability? I know of no state that requires collision and comprehensive. Exactly.
  15. If my child caused loss to another, I would make that person whole. The fault is 100% mine and nobody else's.

Personally, I don't care if the company succeeds or fails. However, I'm a big fan of spending my money in line with my views as much as possible. There are numerous companies I won't do business with. Some I haven't shopped at in years. My memory is long with some things and I stand by my principles.
  17. I may have said it I certainly thought it. Not a recommend, but a leadership calling. Here's my personal reasoning that I don't expect anyone to agree with, though I would thoroughly enjoy a counter-argument that changed my mind. As a new member, I'm struggling to separate doctrine from culture. I look to my church leaders for guidance and support, mostly through example. I put, erroneously, church leaders on a little pedestal as being called and set apart to guide me spiritually. I recognize they are fallible, so when I saw a church leader swear during a service project it's not a huge deal. The natural man is imperfect. When I learn a church leader abused their position it's not a big deal (in terms of impacting my faith or understanding) because the natural man is imperfect. When I hear church leaders, or members, say they support "State" same-sex marriage it isn't a big deal, because it is State marriage and has nothing to do with eternal families or church doctrine. It's an institution of man and man should have the freedom of agency. However, when a member speaks in favor of same-sex temple marriage, drinking coffee, or appears to support the violation of the Law of Chastity they are speaking directly against (or at least flirting with opposing) teachings of the church. Even if the Church permits that in private settings (such as a facebook page) they certainly appear to have a fuzzy line, at best, that separates personal opinion and opposing the Church. For Church leaders, I don't think there should be a line. Each leader holds the keys unique to that position. Could you imagine if the Prophet started posting on his Facebook page "I support same-sex temple marriages"? Would we all just ignore it and think "that's not inspired, it's just his personal opinion"? What message does that send? We are taught to take on the name of the Christ and be a representative of His Church. That applies to Church leadership as much, if not more, than a lowly convert with 259 days of membership. I question the ability of a Church leader to be effective in their position and lead their flock when they are publicly and openly professing to support things that oppose the teachings of the Church. This opinion and 25 cents will get you a subscription to my next interview.
  18. I'm currently in D.C. on business. I'm fairly confident my limited recommend would have been revoked if the Bishop had been in the car with me after my plane landed.
  19. My bookshelf is getting full. I'll need to live a long life to get through all these.
  20. Honestly, because I'm not normal. I have no idea how many months it is. I know the days, though. I wonder if my mind will switch to months at some point?
  21. Heavenly Father is unlikely to provide you with evidence. The Holy Spirit will testify to the truthfulness of His Church. You are either receptive and open to that testimony or you aren't. Period. If you are and receive it, then exercise faith and get baptized. If you aren't and you don't, then don't. However, I certainly wouldn't go digging into things the Prophet deems sacred and private to gather knowledge illicitly then expect to view the covenants just as sacredly or to not be judged for your actions.
