  1. We have many members who, due to the nature of their jobs, have to work on Sabbath at times.
  2. There is no middle ground. Leave me alone.
  3. I had The Expanse on in the background, not really paying attention. I looked up to see a HUGE Trumpeting Moroni flash across the screen. Turns out they were launching the L.D.S.S. Nauvoo into space. Wish I'd paid more attention.
  4. Here's the prayer my seven year old typically delivers before meals: Dear Heavenly Father, We thank you for this day. We thank you for this great meal mommy prepared for us. We thank you for <insert something that happened to him today>. We ask that you let us have a good night. We ask that you let us find one person, or two, that we can help tomorrow. We ask that you help us behave. We ask that you make <whoever> not distract me during <whatever> so that I don't lose minutes at recess. We ask that you help <whoever> with <whatever issue they're having like health, trouble with math, missing the bus>. We pray this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen Oh yeah, and we hope that we get to do <whatever> tomorrow and that my brother doesn't ruin it. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen
  5. I don't believe there would be as many tanks on the street as one might think.
  6. And given 500 million from the government.
  7. Maybe they'll send us missionaries.
  8. Would they, though? I've attended many churches in my life. I've never been told to receive my answer from God. I've been given the answer by the pastor, normally.
  9. When should one seek a first?
  10. Some day I’d like to have a talk with you in person. I’d love to learn more, but you talk over my head.
  11. It's funny. If you look back on my missionary thread you'll see where an issue I had was when Mormons ALWAYS say "I know the Book of Mormon is true", etc. It drove me nuts. Now on the other side, I totally get it. I catch myself saying it as a form of "trust me, I have a testimony of this. I'm telling you it's true because there is no physical evidence, so take my word for it until you get your own". I have to be very careful of this because I remember how much it bugged me. I took it as people trying to convince themselves.
  12. Thanks. My takeaway from that is "make sure everyone has low expectations from me.
  13. I went with the original lesson. The downside to Mormons being so nice is I can't tell if "it went great" means it really went well or if that's a form of "bless your heart, you tried so hard".
  14. I was going to ask to be adopted.
  15. For what it's worth, I have a very strong testimony of this as I've written before.
  16. That's what is taught. What's the issue?
  17. Our meeting is monthly and involves people from every class. I've only been to one, but it was more of a round table and helpful. I've only been a Mormon for 50 days, though, so most things are helpful.
  18. Welcome to my world, only I'm the parent. We made the choice to limit TV and gaming. It has made me a better parent, in my opinion, because I have to actually parent. It's not always easy to stop what I'm doing and help/play with/teach my children, but I always learn it's far more rewarding. Last week it was getting dark, 20 degrees out, I was battling a sinus infection, and I'd had a super long day at work. I was thinking of eating early and going to bed. I was sitting on the couch doing some work I had brought home when my son asked me to go outside and toss the football. I said no, it was getting too dark, and he said OK with disappointment all over his face. I got up, turned on the floodlights, and we went out to throw the football around for over an hour. We had a blast. I was thankful for the time alone with him and learned more about him. I'm lucky to be his dad.
  19. Stay tuned for next week, when I announce my release.....
  20. No argument there. It's hard for me at times to be that self-aware.
  21. People choose to be insulted. I can't help that. Personally, I was glad someone told me the path to Exaltation. I wasn't aware you were deciding which branch from Joseph Smith was true. Sorry. I thought you were talking about ALL Christian sects, the vast majority of whom don't follow the Book of Mormon. I can't help you with the other JS branches. Once I received a testimony of LDS, there was no reason for me to study them. I have too much to learn with the True Church. They interest me, so perhaps I'll look at their history some day.
  22. As usual, I'm amazed at the time you all put into plainly answering these questions. Thank you very much. I don't know how you find this stuff so fast.
  23. Who cares how many Christians there are? What does that have to do with LDS? The LDS church is true. I know this beyond a shadow of a doubt. You said the Book of Mormon was from God. If that is so, then I'd suggest you spend a little more time studying the Book of Mormon. After all, most answers come from there. If you know that to be of God, then you know Joseph Smith was the Prophet. If you know Joseph Smith was the Prophet, you know the Church is true. Unless, of course, you believe God chose Joseph Smith to receive the Book of Mormon then just left him hanging in the wind and allowed him to make the rest up.
  24. Why? How? Was it talking about things to come? Why was Christ unified but we weren't? Also, I have NO desire to go into ANY of that in a Principles class and would certainly NEVER bring it up. However, these were questions I remember having in the class and I want to at least have a short answer and understanding. I can then acknowledge, briefly answer, then say it isn't really a topic for this class rather than giving them nothing. Thanks for the answers!
