  1. It appears to me with some reading that the Crusades had no relation to the presence of Muslims in Europe. The Crusade assaults appear to have been focused on outside Europe. 300,000 Muslims were expelled from Spain around the years 1609 to 1614 A.D. But this had nothing to do with the Crusades. Thanks for the input everyone. Morisco - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
  2. I read the following and wondered how much of if it was true. Can anyone shed some more light? Rodney Stark wrote a book called "God's Battalions" that gave an account of the Crusades. One of the reasons we speak English in the U.S. today is because of the Crusades which prevented Europe from a take over of the Middle East. Islam was in Jerusalem, Spain, France and Constantinople. This is because Europe had been under attack for centuries by the Middle East and they finally responded with military assaults because pilgrims to Israel were being attacked and killed. The Crusades drove the Middle East influence out of Europe.
  3. The end of the world 2012 beliefs are false. The LORD's coming is going to be like Peter and Paul wrote: 1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: 2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour: 3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. - II Peter 3 The day of judgment is going to come like a thief in the night to the wicked. 2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. 3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. 4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. 5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. - I Thessalonians 5
  4. I never saw that insight in I Corinthians 8:6 before. Thanks for the knowledge.
  5. UrbanFool, I know no one could write the Book of Mormon unless the hand of God was helping them. The work of the Book of Mormon speaks for itself. Satan hates the book because it is completely contrary to his work. The LORD uses the book as His tool because it contains the fulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
  6. I've used to pray for a narcissist I knew. I prayed that the LORD would humble him. I do not know if the LORD answered my prayer or if he eventually had to face what seeds he had sown by his actions. Looking back I wish I would have prayed for his eyes to be opened so he could see what his actions were doing and how he would be accountable for his actions before the LORD.
  7. Abba has some really great songs. Those two women have voices that work in sweet harmony.
  8. The Best Song from the music group "Abba" I love this song:
  9. It doesn't really matter to me if children in a play are wearing little angel wings or not. I did find this teaching and I thought it was interesting: "The word cherubim usually refers to guardians of sacred things. While the exact meaning of the word is not known, most scholars agree that these cherubim represented “redeemed and glorified manhood” or “glorified saints and angels” (Wilson, Old Testament Word Studies, s.v. “cherubim,” p. 75). Since Latter-day Saints do not believe that angels have wings, as they are often shown in religious art, the commandment to form wings on the cherubim may raise some questions. Another revelation indicates, however, that wings symbolically represent the power to move and to act (see Doc. & Cov. 77:4). Between these cherubim on the mercy seat, God told Moses, He would meet with him and commune with him. Latter-day revelations state that angels stand as sentinels guarding the presence of God (see Doc & Cov. 132:19). https://lds.org/manual/old-testament-student-manual-genesis-2-samuel/exodus-25-30-35-40?lang=eng&query=cherubim
  10. A man who died firm in the faith of Christ. I wonder if I will get to that age?
  11. Congratulations. Feast on the word of the LORD and begin your journey up the mountain. It doesn't seem like it was the year 1983 when I was baptized. There have been hard times and times plenty and rejoicing. Next thing I know it will be 28 years later and I will be an old man.
  12. The way things are going in the United States we are heading for more economic problems. Unless Congress decides to only spend what they are taking in with taxes. There will be inflation in the future. I am hoping that inflation doesn't go any higher than 30 percent per year.
  13. If someone is married and spends time with another woman he is attracted to it is very dangerous. The more time he spends with her the more dangerous it can get. This person should pray for wisdom on what he should do if he continually works with a woman he is attracted to.
  14. Here are some great Psalms: Psalms 119 103 How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth! 104 Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way. 105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalms 30:4-5 Inspired Version Sing unto the Lord, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness. For his anger kindleth against the wicked; they repent, and in a moment it is turned away, and they are in his favor, and he giveth them life; therefore, weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
  15. I recently heard an ad that the oil companies are not paying their fair share in taxes. When I heard the advertisement I thought to myself raise the taxes on oil companies and they will just pass it on to the consumer.
  16. Wow, wish I had an extra $2,950. I would spend it all on a single Kirtland Safety Society note. I could think of 100 other ways I would rather spend $3,000.
  17. It is my opinion that there were three divisions of spirits in the pre-existence: 1) Valiant spirits 2) Less valiant spirits 3) Rebellious spirits I do not believe that 33% of the spirits were valiant, 33% were less valiant and 33% were rebellious. The following is written in Jesus The Christ on pages 6 and 7: In this struggle between unembodied hosts the forces were unequally divided; Satan drew to his standard only a third part of the children of God, who are symbolized as the "stars of heaven"; The majority either fought with Michael, or at least refrained from active opposition, [Page 7] thus accomplishing the purpose of their "first estate"; while the angels who arrayed themselves on the side of Satan "kept not their first estate", and therefore rendered themselves ineligible for the glorious possibilities of an advanced condition or "second estate". The victory was with Michael and his angels; and Satan or Lucifer, theretofore a "son of the morning", was cast out of heaven, yea "he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him". Satan was cast out in when he visited the garden of Eden. Michael and the valiant heavenly host cast them out.
  18. I can't believe the price of gold compared to platinum. Gold is presently trading today at close to $1,639. Platinum is trading at $1,488. I used to own a platinum American Eagle 31.1 gram platinum coin but then I sold it. I sold it for more than I bought it for and made around $225.
  19. They stopped putting silver in American coins in 1963. 1964 had some silver coins as they used up the remaining silver. One of the worst actions they ever did was completely go away from the gold standard. American currency should have had at least 10 percent of the dollar backed by gold and silver. Politicians like to print money out of nothing thus causing inflation. You would be very lucky to find a silver American coin in normal circulation today with silver being $30 per 31.1 grams.
  20. I could see an ordinance limiting gatherings to around 30 people, but 3 people is ridiculous. I hope the courts rule in favor of freedom.
  21. It makes sense to me that verses 7 and 8 may very likely have been inserted into the text. Look at how verses 6 through 9 read: 6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. 9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. I see nothing wrong with the teachings in verse 7 or how it would conflict with true doctrine. 7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
  22. I hear the Prophets constantly warn against pornography. I try to be on my guard browsing the Internet. Recently I had to set some strict rules for myself with YouTube. There is a lot of borderline pornography on that site that you can accidently view.
  23. I wish I could agree with this statement. We live in a telestial world and some people are just evil. I like criminals to not know who is armed and who is not.
  24. Gag! Saturday's Warrior is such a joke to me. It portrays the Gospel like a poorly written, awful movie to me. Edit: Maybe I should remove this post as I know it is bound to offend someone :)
