  1. I am looking for an opinion on a food storage items. I have something called: "Mainstay Emergency Food Rations" It is food sealed in a plastic bag. It is emergency food mainly made out of Enriched flour, Vegetable shortening, granulated sugar, and corn starch. It was manufactured in 11-2005 and it had an expiration date of 11-2010. Still think it is good or should I just throw it out? How long is this going to be good for?
  2. Best wishes to you Bootstrap_Dove. I cannot imagine what you are going thru. Marry the wrong person and your life can become a living nightmare. I will offer a prayer for you.
  3. I do not know who came up with those statistics on inflation. Food prices have been going up at least 10 percent per year the last two years. There is no way the United States inflation rate is 3 or 4 percent. It very likely is around 8 to 10 percent per year. The U.S. government is also lying about our unemployment rate. Unemployment is very likely around 12 percent nation wide in the United States. If you do not collect unemployment wages then you are not unemployed according to the Federal government.
  4. There indeed is a great deal of laziness in America. Many people believe they are entitled to money they do not earn. I also think on the other side there are some who "oppress the hireling in his wages." (Malachi 3:5). From what I see I think there is too much of a desire for what is not good for everyone and for what people can merely get away with. Is the answer more laws or regulation? Not in my opinion. You cannot legislate a desire for righteousness. Until the fear of God and a desire for righteousness returns to this nation we will experience the same trials.
  5. Sick pay is a bad idea in my mind. The company I work for simply gives "paid time off" which covers vacation and sick pay. It is a much better system. And I do agree that people believe they are entitled to way too much and are not grateful for what they have.
  6. I hope we can get a President and Congress who want to get spending under control and a balanced budget. They balanced the Federal budget back around the year 2000. It did not last for too long though.
  7. A movie is coming out in theaters on March 23 called October Baby. Here is a scene below from the movie:
  8. I know several passages in the New Testament that are wrong, but in my studies of the New Testament I have found it to be very reliable. What verses do you know about that are wrong? A few I can name off the top of my head are: John 1:18 I John 4:12 Romans 4:4-5 Romans 7:24-25 The New Testament is very reliable but incomplete.
  9. This bothers me somewhat. When I hear of people in the church talking about the corruption and how unreliable the Bible is. The New Testament is very reliable. Almost all information in it is correct. If you read 1 Nephi chapter 13 verses 24-29 it talks about truth being removed from the Bible. The most precious of all truths removed from the Old Testament are those regarding Jesus Christ. The following was written in the Church News, January 22, 1966 which I am only going to partially quote: “If we had the Old Testament as it was originally written, mankind would have a most powerful—an infallible—witness that Jesus of Nazareth was indeed the Christ . . . The witness for Christ was the most important thing in that ancient record, and that is what was eliminated by the enemies of Christ who sought to destroy all scriptural marks of identification which might have clearly identified Him as the Savior of the world.” There are some plain prophecies of Christ that remain in the Old Testament but most were removed (see Psalm chapter 22 and Isaiah chapter 53) A few of the Old Testament texts were corrupted, but it is not what is there that is the problem. It is more of what has been removed in the Bible that causes so many to stumble. And I would even go further in saying that people just do not read the Bible anymore at large. That is the main problem.
  10. According to what I have found it was around 70 to 300 A.D. in the Eastern Hemisphere. Read what James Talmage says on page 746 of Jesus The Christ: When Constantine the Great came to the throne in the first quarter of the fourth century, a radical change was inaugurated in the attitude of the state toward the church. The emperor straightway made the so-called Christianity of the time the religion of his realm; and zealous devotion to the church became the surest recommendation to imperial favor. But the church was already in great measure an apostate institution and even in crude outline of organization and service bore but remote resemblance to the Church of Jesus Christ, founded by the Savior and builded through the instrumentality of the apostles. Whatever vestiges of genuine Christianity may have possibly survived in the church before, were buried beyond the sight of man by the abuses that followed the elevation of the churchly organization to secular favor through the decree of Constantine.
  11. I wish the Department of Education at the Federal level would taken a part, disbanded. In my opinion it is too much power to give an education curriculum from the Federal level. Give the power back to the states.
  12. I think a physical affair is far worst than an emotional affair in my opinion. Knowing that another man had been with my wife physically would be harder to endure than emotional. An emotional affair would disgust and really bother me, but not as much as physical adultery.
  13. Welcome to the forums. What type of dog is that you posted in the picture?
  14. Below is an entry I am entering into my records. Tell me what you would add or how I can improve it: 24 And the angel of the Lord said unto me: Thou hast beheld that the book proceeded forth from the mouth of a Jew; and when it proceeded forth from the mouth of a Jew it contained the fulness of the gospel of the Lord, of whom the twelve apostles bear record; and they bear record according to the truth which is in the Lamb of God. 25 Wherefore, these things go forth from the Jews in purity unto the Gentiles, according to the truth which is in God. 26 And after they go forth by the hand of the twelve apostles of the Lamb, from the Jews unto the Gentiles, thou seest the formation of a great and abominable church, which is most abominable above all other churches; for behold, they have taken away from the gospel of the Lamb many parts which are plain and most precious; and also many covenants of the Lord have they taken away. 27 And all this have they done that they might pervert the right ways of the Lord, that they might blind the eyes and harden the hearts of the children of men. 28 Wherefore, thou seest that after the book hath gone forth through the hands of the great and abominable church, that there are many plain and precious things taken away from the book, which is the book of the Lamb of God. 29 And after these plain and precious things were taken away it goeth forth unto all the nations of the Gentiles; and after it goeth forth unto all the nations of the Gentiles . . . (1 Nephi 13:24-29) The most precious of all truths removed from the Old Testament are those regarding Jesus Christ. The following was written in the Church News, January 22, 1966: “If we had the Old Testament as it was originally written, mankind would have a most powerful—an infallible—witness that Jesus of Nazareth was indeed the Christ, that He gave the Law to Moses, that He was the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and that His coming into mortality was plainly foretold in a detailed manner, in holy writ. When Nephi spoke of plain precious parts of the scripture which were eliminated he spoke of the Witness For Christ which is no longer in the Old Testament. The witness for Christ was the most important thing in that ancient record, and that is what was eliminated by the enemies of Christ who sought to destroy all scriptural marks of identification which might have clearly identified Him as the Savior of the world.” Though translations have dimmed some of its meaning, and some plain and precious parts have been deleted, the Old Testament is still is an inspired and miraculous guide to all who will read it. There are some plain prophecies of Christ that remain in the Old Testament (see Psalm chapter 22 and Isaiah chapter 53) The Prophet Joseph Smith restored the important truths which were lost from the Old Testament. The Pearl of Great Price contains the Books of Moses and Abraham which are restorations of important Old Testament scripture.
  15. I am looking at buying a Scion coupe next time I buy a car. I am done with General Motors cars. I would take Ford over General Motors. General Motors just redid the Aveo. They gave it a timing chain and made a few other improvements on the car and now call it the "Sonic."
  16. My car has cost me about $2,600 in the last six months. I had to replace two rear struts to pass inspection, buy a new tire and my junk Korean engine needed some serious work on it. The idler pulley (a part that holds my timing belt in place) broke when the engine had very close to 80,000 miles on it. It bent my valves and I needed to replace the engine head because of it (that cost me $1,890). I had the timing belt replaced at close to 57,000 miles but it did not matter. Sorry about the rant. I just do not like my car.
  17. Hala read this account Joseph Smith wrote about the Angel Moroni in Joseph Smith History: 43 After this communication, I saw the light in the room begin to gather immediately around the person of him who had been speaking to me, and it continued to do so until the room was again left dark, except just around him; when, instantly I saw, as it were, a conduit open right up into heaven, and he ascended till he entirely disappeared, and the room was left as it had been before this heavenly light had made its appearance. It appears to me immortal beings can travel in an advanced way beyond our understanding. Whatever this conduit was that Moroni ascended up into apparently is one way resurrected beings can travel at great speed.
  18. I have been having some issues dealing with someone who in my judgment is a narcissist. Some angry feelings have been developing in me toward this person. The best solution I can come up with so far with my problem is to pray and then ignore it. Just do not focus on the negative things that drag you down. Life is too short to dwell on things that just make you unhappy. (And I really need to take this advice to heart in my own life with other issues.)
  19. I have tried an inversion table once. It made me dizzy. Too much blood to my head. We also recently bought a select comfort air bed. I like it a lot and we got a good deal on it. $750 about for the mattress. It is supposed to last for at least 15 years. I sit in a chair all day at work so that does things to my lower back. But my back feels so much better with my present job. I used to lift 60 pound boxes all the time at my last job.
  20. Anyone want to share any remedies for back aches that they have? I love some Yoga and Pilates stretches. I use some of the stretches and exercises from the video "Louise Solomon's Yoga and Pilates Total Body Toner." She has about 25 to 30 different exercises and stretches in the video that have really helped my back. Anyone have any other input on this subject?
  21. That is not my understanding. All necessary ordinances must be performed before a person is resurrected. While spirits are in paradise, many will find someone to have a celestial marriage. Then at some point before their resurrection, the sealing will be done for them. But the bottom line is no worthy individual will be denied a celestial marriage if they have done their part.
  22. Thanks for the advice on the utilities Anatess. I am probably going to empty out my Roth retirement fund but not the 401K fund because of tax penalties. I have other assets I could sell but I would prefer to empty my official retirement account because of my belief of safety in my other assets against inflation. I have over $16,000 in assets presently that are fairly liquid. But I consider those my retirement funds as well even though they aren't officially labeled such. I do not want to wait a few years to get into a house. I feel like I should get in to a house while the interest rates are low because they won't be in 30 months very likely. Rent will probably go up with inflation in the future as well. I will probably only put down a 5 percent down payment. I haven't even found a house I want yet. It is not something I going to jump into. I want a decent neighborhood, a house with no toxins in it and under $105,000 with many other factors as well. I want all the realities on the table. It is going to be a lot of planning then fasting and prayer on that plan. I would rather not buy than make a decision I would regret.
  23. I talked with one loan officer today. He said I was pre-approved for $105,000 with my income. With taxes and everything the payment should be very close to $700 per month. He also said on whatever house I buy I should look into having the seller pay closing costs. A lot of times in this economy the seller will pay a portion or all of them. I would just need to come up with close to $5,500. I have about $5,500 in a 401K fund that I have. Would I incur a tax penalty on it if I took it out and did not repay? I also have about another $2,000 in a Roth Individual Retirement Arrangement. Also how much do these bills usually run monthly? Water/Sewer Bill Garbage Natural gas Electric (I would like to get a solar panel to help with this) Homeowners insurance Anything else?
  24. I live in Utah. I know closing costs average around $2,500 in this state. But I do not know what other fees to expect. Application fees are scaring me. Around $250 just for putting an application in from what I have read. Edit: My credit score was over 800 last time I had it checked in March of 2011.
  25. I am looking at getting a $107,000 thirty year mortgage for a first time buyer. Been reading a lot of material since $100,000 is a lot of money and I do not want to get ripped off. I am expecting to need to pay around $12,000 with out of pocket costs for this if I cannot get any grants. That is closing costs 5 percent down payment and all the fees included. Is that a reasonable price range in fees and down payment for the mortgage cost I am looking at?
