I can understand the student's frustration. There are too many teachers out there in our public education system that have no desire or have legally been tied up from teaching. His frustrations should not have been vented in front of the class like this in my opinion.

My Faith makes me stronger after heartbreak
Still_Small_Voice replied to kiley's topic in Marriage and Relationship Advice
It must be difficult finding a Latter-Day Saint to date in the United Kingdom. Do not give up hope. "The Lord redeemeth the soul of his servants; and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate." -- Psalms 34:22 -
Pulling a few thoughts from what Pam posted: Everywhere I turn I see premarital sex accepted and embraced, so much so that youth growing up in today’s Westernized culture hardly know what it means to be chaste, much less know that chastity is vital to our spiritual well-being. Elder Bednar acknowledges that “the doctrine I have described will seem to be archaic and outdated to many people. . . . But the Lord’s truth is not altered by fads, popularity, or public opinion polls.” When we were engaged, my husband and I did not find sexual morality an easy route. In fact, it was a very difficult commandment to keep. (Lest you think that Mormons have an easy go of chastity, our bodies work the same way that yours do!) Now that I’m past that phase in our relationship, I’m immensely grateful that we both waited to be intimate. Our intimacy means more to me knowing that we cherish it and guarded it. My own thoughts Those who choose to disregard chastity will never know the hidden treasure found in following the commandments of God unless they repent. I think you value your marriage and intimacy so much more if you live the law of chastity.

What’s the last movie you watched?
Still_Small_Voice replied to Connie's topic in General Discussion
I saw the movie Oblivion. I was disappointed in the two minute sensuality scene. I did not think there was going to be anything like that in the movie. Tom Cruise and another actress strip down naked in a pool. I couldn't tell you what happened because I only watched a small upper left hand portion of screen during the scene. I would advise you to wait for it on digital video disk. The movie was interesting but had some very long parts. -
There is a difference in the L.D.S. belief of Christ's coming versus what many Christians believe. We believe that Christ comes after the hard trials and tribulation on this earth. There are going to be many disappointed believers and I hope that they do not lose faith when the harsh trials start.

Getting a car loan - good idea or not?
Still_Small_Voice replied to German_LDS's topic in Advice Board
Dave Ramsey's advice is to not incur more than two years worth of debt for a car. I think that is good advice. Automobiles to not appreciate in value. They are just money pits. -
I served a mission back in 1994. There are many great social skills I developed because of it. If I had not served a mission I know I would not have developed these skills because I was introverted before I went. I use these skills all the time in my present employment. Serving has also helped me to have more empathy for others. I think you will see your daughter develop many positive characteristics from serving a mission.

I know two relatives who used to play sports on Sundays. They were inactive in their church activities for many years. The games would conflict with church meetings many times. One of them has decided to begin attending church again but the other still has not. Did playing softball on Sundays affect them in a negative way? From my perspective I think it did.

Righteousness and wickedness affect both attitude and appearance. President Brigham Young (1801–77) said, “Those who have got the forgiveness of their sins have countenances that look bright, and they will shine with the intelligence of heaven” (“Speech,” Times and Seasons, July 1, 1845, 956). President David O. McKay taught: “No man can disobey the word of God and not suffer for so doing. No sin, however secret, can escape retribution. True, you may lie and not be detected; you may violate virtue without it being known by any who would scandalize you; yet you cannot escape the judgment that follows such transgression. The lie is lodged in the recesses of your mind, an impairment of your character that will reflect sometime, somehow in your countenance or bearing” (in Conference Report, Oct. 1951, 8). Jeremiah wrote that the people had become so sinful that they lost their ability to blush (see Jeremiah 6:15). "Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the Lord."

U.S. President's gun violence reduction proposal
Still_Small_Voice replied to Star_'s topic in Current Events
Adolphus Busch is simply unable to understand what the Second Amendment is about. It is the right to protect ourselves from thugs. Adolphus also does not understand what an "assault weapon" is. Any gun ban is pretty much a joke because thugs are going to get what they want anyway. There are ten of millions of thirty and twenty round magazines out there already in the United States. Even if you did manage to shut down the manufacturers three dimensional printers are just going to create more and more. This push for more restrictive laws is all about control. We have all the laws we need. It seems Obama and those aligned with him are only interested in pushing for more control of the peaceful citizens and not enforcement of our present laws. If they really cared they would eliminate the gun free zones and place trained, concealed weapon personnel in our schools to prevent these horrible things from happening again. -
"Growing and Changing" aka Sex Ed for a 10 year old
Still_Small_Voice replied to FunDip's topic in Advice Board
I would recommend the Book: "The Wonderful Way That Babies Are Made" by Larry Christenson. You can get it off Amazon.com for about $10. It is written by a Christian author. Some ideas are Christian ideas in the book like no one knows what the LORD looks like. But you can adapt the ideas to Latter-Day Saint teachings. I think it describes procreation in ways that promote a healthy attitude toward our bodies and how a husband and wife can conceive a baby. The book has many good ideas you can adapt to teach your children. If we do not teach our children about the law of chastity and sexual relations, the world will. I would much rather the teachings came from me. -
abstinence after marriage???
Still_Small_Voice replied to MrShorty's topic in Marriage and Relationship Advice
I believe the statement and the below scripture are true: Making love is one of the wonderful things the LORD planned for husbands and wives. It's beautiful gift just for husbands and wives to help bring them happiness all of their lives. It's something He made special for them. "For what doth it profit a man if a gift is bestowed upon him, and he receive not the gift? Behold, he rejoices not in that which is given unto him, neither rejoices in him who is the giver of the gift." -- Doctrine and Covenants 88:33 -
U.S. President's gun violence reduction proposal
Still_Small_Voice replied to Star_'s topic in Current Events
With the invention of three dimensional printers a ban on magazines that hold over ten or fifteen rounds is a joke. People can just set up the equipment get the files and print out all the magazines they want in their own basement. I heard people can also print out any piece of a firearm they want using a metal three dimensional printer. The fact is gun laws only apply to the law abiding citizen. The evil thug will do whatever he wants because he doesn't care about the law. -
I got over old flames by questioning the fantasies. How do you know the other person would have been good for you? What if they spend money like a drunk sailor or are cold in their affection? You never know what it is like on the other side and it leads to sin so why even go there? Also think about how it would destroy your current life if you did pursue lust. Pray that you will find joy in your current relationship and in your life and look forward to what the LORD has for your future if you continue faithful. Why waste your mind on fruitless fantasies?

Heard of Loremo Car? Over 105 miles per gallon
Still_Small_Voice replied to Still_Small_Voice's topic in General Discussion
Here is a video showing the model design. I do not know how two more people can fit in the back of the car. I think it would be a great commuter car. loremo - YouTube -
I would pay someone 75 cents per round for .308 Winchester presently. I cannot find any of that caliber for less than $1 per round. I refuse to pay more than that. I am angry at the Department of Homeland Security for buying up all this ammo. It is pure waste and an attempt to just make it harder for the common citizen to buy.

Heard of Loremo Car? Over 105 miles per gallon
Still_Small_Voice replied to Still_Small_Voice's topic in General Discussion
I have read they are implementing a three cylinder engine to give the car more power but it drops the miles per gallon to about 80. Still it is a car I think should be available in the United States. -
Heard of Loremo Car? Over 105 miles per gallon
Still_Small_Voice replied to Still_Small_Voice's topic in General Discussion
I have read that this car does get a little over 105 miles to the gallon. However it takes 20 seconds to get to 60 miles per hour. It is also not available in the United States. I wonder which company is blocking this vehicle from being available in the United States? It is much more affordable than the Nissan Leaf costing about $13,000 less. -
Update on Connecticut, Indiana and Wyoming Temples
Still_Small_Voice replied to pam's topic in Church News and Events
The Wyoming Saints will be getting a temple. That is great news. Did you know Wyoming is the least populated state in the entire United States? -
I am glad to see they need to build another Missionary Training Center. It means that more young men and women are ready to serve missions. We surely need more missionaries in this telestial world.

I see John chapter 5 verse 19 as the Son is just like His Father. It does not mean to me that our Eternal Father was once a sinful mortal man.

What changed with Judas's betrayal
Still_Small_Voice replied to MrShorty's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Many of the Chief Priests wanted to arrest Jesus and were trying to almost from the beginning of His ministry. The reason they could not was "His hour was not yet come." Jesus could not be taken until He allowed Himself to be taken. He and His Father were in control of the atonement and the hour in which it would happen. -
Our car died, yet blessings have come
Still_Small_Voice replied to MormonMama's topic in General Discussion
I have been quite blessed by the LORD. I like to listen to Dave Ramsey about having an emergency fund. We presently have about four months of expenses in an emergency fund saved up. My wife and I both thought our mini van was on its last thousand miles. We had an oil change on it and it is now working fine again. (Remember to check your oil people!) The oil was so low it was not even on the dipstick. Get that oil changed every 5,000 miles too. It is sad to me to see so many people struggling in this awful economy. Keep being faithful and may the LORD bless you as you seek to follow Him. -
I think I study the scriptures an average of around 100 minutes a week. I have not been doing so well this week. I am suffering from an illness right now. If you read 25 verses per day you will read close to 9,100 verses of scripture in one year.
