  1. I just read this article below. Read it and post what you think: TWO HARBORS, Minnesota -- It was a Sunday during Advent, and inside a small pub a few blocks up from the north shore of Lake Superior, 17 people gathered around four bar-top tables shoved into a ring. Betsy Nelson, the bar's cook, lit two candles with a cigarette lighter as Addison Houle strapped on an acoustic guitar and sang a slightly off-key rendition of "We Three Kings." Curt "Fish" Anderson sipped a beer as TVs overhead flickered with NFL pregame shows. "Father, thank you for this time we can share on Sunday morning with new friends," prayed Chris Fletcher, an emergency medical technician, part-time bartender and seminary student who has led this service every Sunday morning at Dunnigan's Pub & Grub since last summer. "We're getting to know you, and getting to know each other better." Spending Sunday mornings in a bar sounds like an activity for those running from God. For this small group in a watering hole in Twin Harbors, about 160 miles northeast of Minneapolis, it's about chasing God. It's one unconventional place of worship around the country fostered by an evangelical movement known as "the emerging church." "I feel closer to God here than I do at a conventional church," said Nelson, 56, a lifelong churchgoer who until recently could be found every Sunday morning in the pews at First Baptist Church nearby. "Jesus said we're supposed to be a light to the world. What better place to do that than at a bar?" 2. I have recently read Numbers chapter 16. From my understanding one of the reasons Korah was angry and rebelled against Moses was because he was denied the priesthood because he was not in the tribe of Levi. I have been seeking commentary notes on this chapter to study. The only thing I have found so far is this: Old Testament Student Study Guide Here is Numbers 16 if anyone is interested in reading it: Numbers 16Â Can anyone give me some guidance or inside information on Numbers chapter 16?
  3. I agree with what others have said about your husband suffering from depression. He likely feels the trials he is enduring are too much for him to bear. My present place of employment can be miserable at times and I have found myself slipping into depression in the past. It is only holding onto the LORD that has kept me going thru hard times. Keep praying and holding onto the LORD. Obey the commandments and follow the Prophet with exactness. Ponder your present situation and seek answers to your problems in the scriptures. The Book of Mormon gives me answers. I apologize if what I have said sounds like a typical Sunday school answer.
  4. I love the snowball fight scene of this movie. The scene is also hilarious where he says, "He's an angry elf."
  5. This is a very good video posted on LDS.org. What Shall We Give?
  6. I would say following the LORD's counsel on this one: Matthew 5:44 "But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;" I would pray for this person.
  7. Someone posted this thought a while ago on grace and I liked it so much I copied it to my spiritual journal. Grace is so easy to misunderstand without modern revelation. Grace empowers us. Grace is a free gift, but it allows us to work harder and do more. It's not for the idle. Too many mistake grace being a free gift as meaning you don't have to do anything to get it, because, they reason, if you did then you are earning your salvation. It doesn't have to be. It can be a free gift, but that gift empowers or enables us to accomplish more than we can on our own. If you look at it that way then it makes more sense.
  8. I suggest you read the following on repentance. It has helped me in my walk with the LORD. LDS.org - Lessons Chapter - Repentance
  9. I do not watch much television at all. My favorite show I enjoy is Biggest Loser. On a rare occasion I watch Glenn Beck, but most television shows do not interest me. I find it very bothersome how most dancing has become very sexual. What happened to the talented and classic dancing? Take a look at this Fred Estair and Ginger Rogers clip:
  10. My favorite Bible version next to the Inspired Version is the 21st Century King James Version. It cleans up the King James Version text, but it does not change doctrine. Here are a few examples: 21st Century King James Version John 11 21 Then Martha said unto Jesus, "Lord, if Thou hadst been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But I know that even now, whatsoever Thou wilt ask of God, God will give it Thee." King James Version John 11 21 Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died. 22 But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee. 21st Century King James Version Amos 3 7 Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, unless He revealeth His secret unto His servants the prophets. King James Version Amos 3 7 Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.
  11. I hope Prison Chaplain is not feeling attacked in this thread. I am feeling enlightened studying this subject. It is a wonderful and beautiful subject studying about how the grace of Christ works in our lives.
  12. The most simple way I can explain getting to the Kingdom of God is this way: Ephesians 2:10 "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." Romans Chapter 6 1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? 3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. A Christian author, C. S. Lewis, compared grace and works to the blades of a pair of scissors. Both are necessary. To ask “Are you saved by grace or works?” is like asking “Do you cut with this blade or that one?” And as Joseph Smith wrote: "Therefore ye are justified of faith and works, through grace, to the end . . ." In my own words: "We do good works, not because we can be saved on our own efforts, but because that is what Christ has commanded us to do."
  13. I have been a San Diego Chargers fan for years. But I will admit I am a casual Chargers fan. I do not know the names of any of the players presently. I do keep up with their recent winning and loss record though.
  14. I think what Rameumptom said is true. I was in T-bone wreck in 1997 that really shook me up. I learned how mortal I was and I am still cautious when making left turns (because that is how the accident happened). Pray for safety as you drive. Pray that the LORD will comfort you and that you will be able to learn from this experience and become a better person because of it.
  15. That is what I understood from his talk. We cannot vote on what God's laws are.
  16. We know there is a Heavenly mother. We do not pray to her, we pray only to God. We are the offspring of Heavenly Parents. Official doctrine on Heavenly mother is here: "God is not only our Ruler and Creator; He is also our Heavenly Father. All men and women are literally the sons and daughters of God. “Man, as a spirit, was begotten and born of heavenly parents, and reared to maturity in the eternal mansions of the Father, prior to coming upon the earth in a temporal [physical] body” (Gospel Principles, Chapter 2). Exaltation also requires eternal marriage. Heavenly Father would not require something of His children that He himself would not do. Entering the celestial kingdom to live eternally with God does not require eternal marriage. But being exalted does require eternal marriage.
  17. I used to go out with my dad when he shot his .30 caliber rifle and .45 caliber handgun. I was scared of them. I never wanted to play with them because I knew what could happen if I did.
  18. I do not feel well that my some of neighbors are driving around 2,500 pound weapons on the street called "automobiles." Cars are far more deadly in my opinion.
  19. The Book of Mormon is a mighty book as is the Bible. I love the words of the Lord and I try to read at least 15 verses out of the Book of Mormon everyday. That may not seem like much but in one year you will read 5,475 verses out of the book if you do it everyday. <style type="text/css"> <!-- @page { margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } --> </style> It reads this in I Nephi chapter 22 verses 11-12: 11 Wherefore, the Lord God will proceed to make bare his arm in the eyes of all the nations, in bringing about his covenants and his gospel unto those who are of the house of Israel. 12 Wherefore, he will bring them again out of captivity, and they shall be gathered together to the lands of their inheritance; and they shall be brought out of obscurity and out of darkness; and they shall know that the Lord is their Savior and their Redeemer, the Mighty One of Israel. The Book of Mormon and Bible are a way the Lord has shown his arm in these days. Those who choose to follow the words of these books shall be brought out of obscurity and out of darkness.
  20. The Lord has said: "And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake; but he that endureth to the end shall be saved." Matthew 10:22 We live in a telestial world. Many are offended at the Word of God because He is not their Master. Mosiah 5:13 "For how knoweth a man the master whom he has not served, and who is a stranger unto him, and is far from the thoughts and intents of his heart?"
  21. There was a revelation given to a prophet of the Lord on this subject in the year 1918. It was written in a book. You can read all about it here at this link: Doctrine and Covenants 138
  22. Can you post a link to the talk given by Elder Walter F. González?
  23. Are not Christians supposed to love their brothers and sisters and want to win souls to Christ? I want to win souls to my Lord Jesus Christ. I do not want to dislike others because they have different beliefs. By this shall all men know ye are my disciples if ye have love one to another.
  24. Heh! Heh! Suzie, why didn't you take the test then look at the answers. How many questions right are people getting? Please post your results.
  25. You got 5 right Rameumptom. (That is a 71.4%.) Some of questions were really difficult questions. Here are the answers: 1) When Heavenly Father announced the coming of His Son to the Nephites, He said: B. “Behold my Beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased.” 2) When Jesus Christ first spoke to the Nephites after He descended out of heaven He told them He was: C) "The light and the life of the world" 3) When Jesus invited the Nephites to come to Him He said: "Arise and come forth unto me that . . ." D) None of the above 4) Jesus blessed nine of His disciples so that they would: A) Live unto the age of a man, that their ministry might have an end so that they would come unto Him 5) In the thirty-sixth year after the sign of Jesus' birth the people Jesus visited in the Americas: D) Answers A and C are correct Were all converted. Had no contentions and disputations among them 6) After two hundred and ten years after the sign of Jesus' birth the people did exercise wicked power and authority over the three disciples of Jesus who did tarry with them. They did all the following to the three disciples according to the Book of Mormon except: B. stone them with stones 7) Ammaron kept the record after the Nephites and Lamanites both become very evil and rejected Christ. Ammaron was constrained by the Holy Ghost to hide up the sacred records. About what year was it according to Book of Mormon when Ammaron was told to hide the sacred records: A) A.D. 321
