  1. I believe what you have stated is partially true. Christ's atonement will cover all a faithful disciple's sins if, and I repeat if, they are faithful and endure to the end. Concerning the sin of murder (not killing in self-defense which can be justifiable) I don't know what the specifications are for forgiveness.
  2. I remember talking about the Book of Mormon one time in church. If the Book of Mormon were inspired by Satan then the devil surely has switched sides to be with the Lord. As Nephi wrote in II Nephi chapter 3 : "Wherefore, the fruit of thy loins shall write; and the fruit of the loins of Judah shall write; and that which shall be written by the fruit of thy loins, and also that which shall be written by the fruit of the loins of Judah, shall grow together, unto the confounding of false doctrines and laying down of contentions, and establishing peace among the fruit of thy loins, and bringing them to the knowledge of their fathers in the latter days, and also to the knowledge of my covenants, saith the Lord." What is written above is a prophesy made by Joseph (Israel's son) that a two records would come forth. One from from the descendants of Judah and one from his children. Both records would "grow together, unto the confounding of false doctrines and laying down of contentions, and establishing peace." This prophecy has been fulfilled with the Bible and Book or Mormon coming forth to the nations of the earth.
  3. I am sure there are a lot of mothers that lock themselves in the bathroom because that is the only way to get some time away! :)
  4. Since gasoline began to inflate out of control in the past year I have began to stock up more on our food storage. I think we bought about 40 pounds of pasta in the last few months when it was on sale for $1 a pound. I want to stock up even more. If things continue the way they are we could possibly have a world wide famine in several years.
  5. A few quotes I like from the book of Proverbs: A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool’s back. -- Proverbs 26:3 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. -- Proverbs 16:25
  6. The Word of Wisdom is a law of health revealed by the Lord for the physical and spiritual benefit of His children. On February 27, 1833, as recorded in section 89 of the Doctrine and Covenants, the Lord revealed which foods are good for us to eat and which substances are not good for the human body. He also promised health, protection, knowledge, and wisdom to those who obey the Word of Wisdom. Word of Wisdom prohibits decaffeinated or caffeinated coffee. The Lord also counsels us against the use of “hot drinks.” Church leaders have said that this means coffee and tea, which contain harmful drugs. We should avoid all drinks that contain harmful drugs. Black teas are against the Word of Wisdom. I would counsel with your Bishop concerning green teas but I have been informed that they are a drink that should be avoided. Caffeinated soda pop is not against the Word of Wisdom unless you are addicted to it and or drink excessive amounts of it.
  7. I believe all these signs will precede Christ's return to the earth to reign as King: Missionaries sent to every nation kindred tongue and people. The rise of the anti-Christ. The war siege of Jerusalem. Separation of Zion and Babylon. Disease, famine, pestilence and war that wipe out one third of the people of this world. Christ visits Adam-ondi-Ahman
  8. I apologize to some if I seem too overbearing. I would prefer the words of the living apostles over hearsay. If a man or a woman has not been ordained to the Melchizedek Priesthood, they cannot use it. Anyone can, however, exercise faith and call upon the Lord in prayer for the things they stand in need of. LDS.org - Liahona Article - Priesthood Authority in the Family and the Church
  9. I know women who are followers of Christ can work great miracles by the power of faith and prayer. Do not feel that you cannot draw down the powers of heaven just because you do not hold the priesthood. A woman or an unordained man cannot use the authority of the priesthood to bless others, but as I have just stated, they can draw down the powers of heaven with faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. "And Christ hath said: If ye will have faith in me ye shall have power to do whatsoever thing is expedient in me." Moroni 7:33
  10. What you have posted Mullenite was not a revelation from John Taylor. The author of the work is unknown who wrote that specific entry of what was recorded in Wilford Woodruff's journal. Wilford found the work curious and recorded it in his journal. I would not take anything written in it as doctrine.
  11. I don't know if you are intermingling "calling and election made sure" and "transfiguration". They are two separate blessings that the Lord can give to whomever He will.
  12. I can also second how complex the computer is. I am currently studying to work as a computer technician someday. Think about this. A gigahertz is one billion cycles per second. Many central processing units in more modern computers can run at over two billion cycles per second!
  13. What you have said here is a truth that is found in Doctrine & Covenants Section 88: 35 That which breaketh a law, and abideth not by law, but seeketh to become a law unto itself, and willeth to abide in sin, and altogether abideth in sin, cannot be sanctified by law, neither by mercy, justice, nor judgment. Therefore, they must remain filthy still.
  14. I only watched the priesthood session and a few other talks. So far, from what I've seen, I really liked the the talks given by Bishop Burton about the church's humanitarian efforts that influenced at least 4 million people. I also liked the talk given by Elder Child on the subject of tithing. The promises given in that talk to those who pay their tithing are definitely something worth reviewing.
  15. You misunderstood what I wrote. I did not mean a Satanic Cult has infiltrated the Latter-Day Saint Church. I meant there are a few among us (inside or outside the church) who worship power and or sensuality and will use whatever means they need to gain what they want. For instance, in the ward I attend there was a man who was investigating the church. He would attend church on and off for a while and then quit attending. We later found he was a registered sex offender for horrible crimes against very young children.
  16. I don't doubt much of what Spirettedotter has stated in post 57 is true. Secret combinations are an abomination continually warned against in the Book of Mormon. Those who worship power and or sensuality will use whatever means they need to gain what they want. These people are wolves dressed as sheep among us. One evil man (or woman) can do much damage especially if they are quite intelligent. We do know that 25 percent of all women will be sexually assaulted at some point in their life. The best protection you or your loved ones can have is the influence of Holy Spirit with you.
  17. Anyone heard of this prophecy Joseph Smith made on April 6th 1843: "Were I going to prophesy, I would say the end would not come in 1844, five or six, or in forty years. There are those of the rising generation who shall not taste death till Christ comes. I was once praying earnestly upon this subject, and a voice said unto me, 'My son, if thou livest until thou art eighty-five years of age, thou shalt see the face of the Son of Man.' I was left to draw my own conclusions concerning this, and I took the liberty to conclude that if I did live to that time, He would make His appearance. But I do not say whether he will make his appearance or I shall go where He is." History of the Church, Volume 5 page 336 I have pondered much over this prophecy. Here is possible interpretations of what I have come up with: 1) This prophesy could have reference to the appearance of Jesus Christ at Adam-ondi-Ahman. 2) There could have been very young children at the time Joseph Smith made this prophecy in 1843 that could have fathered children around the age of 77 with a younger mother. These children would have been born around 1921 and could live to around the year 2020 so it's possible the Second Coming could be around then. 3) Some people could be have been transfigured after Joseph Smith made this prophecy and thus could live until the Savior comes again which could push the date back to whenever. 4) This prophecy may not even have reference to the Second Coming of Christ. There could have been a group of righteous souls that have already had a personal visitation of Saviour and communed with Jesus which could also fulfill this prophecy. Anyone else have any thoughts about this prophecy?
  18. I know without the Lord's grace and strength He gives me I would not be able to change and progress.
  19. If we read the Joseph Smith Translations on the two verses you cited it adds more clarity. Matthew 7:1-2 Now these are the words which Jesus taught his disciples that they should say unto the people. Judge not unrighteously, that ye be not judged: but judge righteous judgment. Mark Chapter Inspired Version 10 23 And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus spake again and said unto them, Children, how hard is it for them who trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! 24 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. 25 And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved? 26 And Jesus looking upon them saith,With men that trust in riches, it is impossible; but not impossible with men who trust in God and leave all for my sake, for with such all these things are possible. To also add some clarity to Mark Chapter 10 read Luke chapter 19 Inspired Version: 1 And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. 2 And behold, there was a man named Zaccheus, which was chief among he publicans; and he was rich. 3 And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature. 4 And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way. 5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zaccheus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house. 6 And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully. 7 And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be a guest with a man that is a sinner. 8 And Zaccheus stood, and said unto the Lord, Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by unjust means, I restore fourfold. 9 And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forasmuch as he also is a son of Abraham; 10 For the Son of Man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. We should ask ourselves the question of why Zaccheus gave most of riches to the poor which was acceptable to the Lord, but that Jesus asked the rich man to sell everything and give it to the poor. I believe it is because of where the two mens' hearts were. Jesus knew that the young man needed to forsake all of his riches because they were a stumbling block to him but that Zaccheus had his heart set upon the Lord's Kingdom.
  20. I would caution everyone to not rely only on what a movie is rated to determine if it is acceptable material to view or not. Most movies produced nowadays are not even worth watching. There are many movies that have material no good Latter-Day Saint should be watching. I have not found any Satanic influences in The Passion of the Christ. I do not think it is acceptable material for a child to watch, but I don't think watching it pushes the influence of the Holy Spirit out of your life. I think it is up to the individual to pray and decide whether or not they should watch it.
  21. I saw the movie a number of times. There are many good portrayals in the movie. There are many scenes I don't like. One scene I thought was particularly touching was crucifixion scene. How brutual the Roman soldiers treated Jesus pounding nails into his hands and He only cries for His Father to forgive the soldiers. It is a love I can't comprehend and a portrayal of the merciful loving Christ I have come to know in my own life. On the whole the resurrection scene was thirty seconds long. Why Mel Gibson didn't focus more on Christ overcoming death is confusing to me. You can also see an unbalanced perspective of Mary in the movie. And the scourging scene was far overdone. Christ was whipped thirty nine times with a scourge according to Bruce McConkie. Probably near one hundred times in the movie. It is a movie that had some great work in it but also had some scenes that strayed from the scriptures. I own the movie and will likely watch some scenes of it in the future as it helps me understand some parts of the Atonement a little better.
  22. I have had my doubts with the different Latter-Day Saint truths. I think we argue in our minds sometimes too much over small details. I believe the following statement made by Wilford Woodruff with my whole heart: "The Lord will never permit me or any other man who stands as President of this Church to lead you astray. It is not in the programme. It is not in the mind of God. If I were to attempt that, the Lord would remove me out of my place, and so He will any other man who attempts to lead the children of men astray from the oracles of God and from their duty. (Sixty-first Semiannual General Conference of the Church, Monday, October 6, 1890, Salt Lake City, Utah. Reported in Deseret Evening News, October 11, 1890, page 2.)" If we stay close to the counsel of the prophet we will not be led astray. If you have confusion and doubt in your mind pray to your Heavenly Father and ask Him if the Thomas Monson is the living prophet of God and if His counsel is the word of the Lord. I also know the following statement by Ezra Taft Benson is true: "There are three ways in which the Book of Mormon is the keystone of our religion. It is the keystone in our witness of Christ. It is the keystone of our doctrine. It is the keystone of testimony. The Book of Mormon is the keystone in our witness of Jesus Christ, who is Himself the cornerstone of everything we do. It bears witness of His reality with power and clarity. …" "[it] broadens our understandings of the doctrines of salvation. The Book of Mormon … was written for our day. In [it] we find a pattern for preparing for the Second Coming. … "The Book of Mormon teaches us truth [and] bears testimony of Jesus Christ. … But there is something more. There is a power in the book which will begin to flow into your lives the moment you begin a serious study of the book. You will find greater power to resist temptation. You will find the power to avoid deception. You will find the power to stay on the strait and narrow path. The scriptures are called ‘the words of life,’ and nowhere is that more true than it is of the Book of Mormon. … ‘Every Latter-day Saint should make the study of this book a lifetime pursuit’ " (in Conference Report, Oct. 1986, pages 4–7; or Ensign, Nov. 1986, pages 5–7).
  23. Some others who read the Bible and interpret it their own way like to state that we believe in a different Jesus than they do. They don't believe Jesus has a perfect, glorified, immortal body of flesh and bones as we do. They teach God, Jesus and the Holy Ghost are one being. They don't believe Jesus visited other people on the earth after His resurrection other than the people in Israel. I think the points I stated above are the main fuel for their fire in stating we don't believe in Jesus Christ. We do believe that Jesus is the promised Messiah of the Old Testament and our Savior. But we have different beliefs than those who attempt to understand the Bible thru their own understanding.
  24. We can cross reference this teaching with Wilford Woodruff's Holy Spirit inspired teachings: The Lord will never permit me or any other man who stands as President of this Church to lead you astray. Reported in Deseret Evening News, October 11, 1890, p. 2.)
