I had no idea Pawn Stars was scripted so much. I did read on other boards about it being scripted but not that much. If it is being scripted that much there should be a disclaimer because it appears to be real. I also read that the Chumly guy is not a family member, he's a friend of the son and was brought in to more or less play the court jester. I assumed the American Pickers people know where the right market is for each item they buy. Still, I don't see how they can make a good living. Ebay to me seems dead now compared to the roaring late 1990's and early 2000's.

Does anybody else here watch these two programs on the History Channel - American Pickers and Pawn Stars? I enjoy watching American Pickers. But how in the world do those two guys make money? They even drive around in a Mercedes van. I've looked them up and read the the tall guy used to own a bicycle shop. Who in the world buys all that old junk that they spend good money for? I used to follow ebay closely back in the late 1990's and early 2000's and there used to be a ton of action on that site. Now it seems to have dried up. All the antique stores I drive past are usually empty and probably not even open. I'm perplexed by those two guys. I wonder if they made a fortune in some other business before they started doing this full time. As for Pawn Stars. I used to despise that show. I'm not a fan of pawn shops because people often go to them when they are in despairing times and must sell special things like wedding rings and such. The program shows people bringing in interesting stuff but they rarely show the hard up person selling their gold or wedding rings. Also, how much in a pawn shop is actually stolen to begin with? American Pickers is a nice show though. It's funny when they start offering money for things and the owner is completely surprised his stuff is worth that much.

Harley people think they are cowboys. Cowboys did not wear helmets. They aren't going to wear them either.

I saw on Huff Post that some think Michael Bay used old film clips in Transformers 3. The movie clips are compared with clips from a movie called The Island, another of Bay's film. Michael Bay May Have Used Old Movie Clips In Transformers 3 (VIDEO, POLL)

Israel also sabotaged Irish ship, say Gaza flotilla organizers

I don't hate Israel. I wish the country peace, prosperity and growth. -
I don't care when they change from cars to robots. When they are robots they look like clumps of metal all thrown together. I think Thor is the best film of the summer so far.

What the world needs is a very strong Iran who can keep Israel in check. Take away the Holocaust angle and holy land angle and I think more people would view Israel as a punk country. -
International Monetary Fund bullying the US: What should Obama do?
HoosierGuy replied to FunkyTown's topic in Current Events
Courtesy of Juan Cole's site: By the time US President Eisenhower wrote those words in 1954, Republican leaders had, as a matter of political necessity, accepted the institutions created by the New Deal. (In fact, taxes on corporations and the rich were even higher during the Eisenhower presidency than they had been under FDR.) As the great majority of Americans are assisted by programs such as social security, it should not be surprising, that when facts are understood, progressive government is popular. The moderate Republican trend of domestic governance continued under President Richard Nixon. While Nixon exploited the race issue to get elected in 1968, he “governed as a liberal in many ways: He indexed Social Security for inflation, created Supplemental Security Income…,[raised taxes,] expanded government regulation of workplace safety and the environment, and even tried to introduce universal health insurance.” Rudolph: US Inequality Quiz | Informed Comment -

Anybody care to take a guess on this? Which Republican leader wrote the following? “Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things. Among them are H. L. Hunt…, a few other Texas oil millionaires…Their number is negligible and they are stupid.” And those words are from a great man, no doubt. -

You only have to be concerned if you are a multimillionaire or above. Increasing the taxes on the multimillionaires and above would crate more economic wealth. Your income would probably go up allowing you to buy more. -

There is another option - the one that will work and one that half the people are scared of because they will be forced to admit they have been wrong all these decades - raise taxes. The U.S. should go into default. Let the anti-government faction in the U.S. have their day and let the U.S. go into default. It should be more exciting than the summer blockbuster movie Titanic. That is if you like seeing more homeless and get a kick out of starving children. -
You can ignore my attempt. Just look at the voting records from those that follow her.

Everyone knows that Rand was anti-Christian? One of her heroes was William Hickman, a "Superman" who kidnapped a twelve year old girl, held her ransom, and after the ransom was paid he cut her to pieces and then returned her dead body to the parents. That man is Ran's hero. Why do some people pick these nutty people to follow? She's scary. That old interview she did with Mike Wallace is scary. She looks psycho. She seems more a worshiper of the industrialists and ultra wealthy.

Courtesy of the Utah Moms for Clean Air! Dirty Coal finds a friend in Scholastic Books? | Utah Moms for Clean Air "Teachers are told that the curriculum aligns with national standards because it teaches children the advantages and disadvantages of different types of energy. But while the lessons do extol the advantages of coal, they fail to mention a single disadvantage." And I can't find it using the search even though it was discussed on this forum.

There was a discussion on this board a few months ago about energy companies out west, maybe Utah. They were wanting to write or strongly influence what was in school history books. They were going to push how wonderful the energy business has been to the U.S.
-
What's really scary are stories of companies, like we talked on this forum about a few months ago, who want to write part of history text books and put in how wonderful the coal companies etc... are to society. If you are going to put that in text books then make sure you include how those companies make billions while over charging the American consumer every month. To get back on focus - I'm a lover of history. I heard a professor say the founding fathers did not write the Constitution using common sense. Common sense would tell us we could find a good person to make king. Common sense would tell you we could make an official church/region for the U.S. but it would never force itself on any person. The founders knew common sense would lead us all wrong. Religion has in the past been used to control people in bad ways. Kings have gone bad and been horrible. They looked at history and said - never again.

Church releases new statements about immigration

Drive around looking for Mexicans that look like they are working. Find the person employing them. Arrest the employer and sentence him to prison for a few months to a few years. You do that from the granddad who hires Mexicans to cut his grass to the factories that hire Mexicans and you will see a change in migration. But you've got to find these people who are hiring them and send them to prison. -
The billboard does not tell who Greg Fultz's girlfriend was but if you are a friend of Geg Fultz then you probably know who his girlfriend was. This is violating her privacy. Also the billboard says "KILL" and an abortion is not a murder or killing. The boyfriend should be punished. Also all those sponsors of that billboard are pro life sponsors. This is nothing but a hit piece on the woman.

Does this deserve to be national news? I'm taking class in that now taught by Ball State and the New York Times! I just read a chapter on what is considered news, what is national and what is not. It can be national because there are lots of parents out there all across the country who have kids in school and they go on field trips. So they can relate to this. Also this is sort of a uniqe story since most field trips don't go to Hooters. And there is some shock value to it. I mean when you hear about it you probably are surprised at least a little. I have been to Hooters a few times in Florida. My brother loves their wings and wanted to take me. I was surprised. The girls were not as scantily dressed as I thought they would be. I've seen worse at Wal-Mart. It's clear this company is using women as sexual objects to sale their product, food and drink. That is disgusting.

Will American Jews Sell Out Israel?
HoosierGuy replied to Saintmichaeldefendthem1's topic in Current Events
Whatever. The U.S. citizens of Jewish heritage and many in Israel and I are all on the same page. No More Applause | Jewish Voice for Peace You would think after all we do Israel would not spit in America's eye. Also, all those congressmen standing up for Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu did it probably more out of fear from the Christian conservatives than actually wanting to support Netanyahu. Israel does not defend itself. Israel is historically the number one recipient of US foreign aid. The US gives Israel a whopping $3 billion a year in aid and military equipment, most of which is used to defend Israel’s illegal occupation. My last post on this thread. -

Listen to this podcast from the respected BBC World Service. It's from an audio program that is one of the best called From Our Own Correspondent. It's only ten minutes long but the Saudi story is only half of it. Listen to the first few minutes but the whole story is only four minutes and thirty seconds long, so give it all a listen. Try the second story too if you want. From Our Own Correspondent stories are almost aways well done. Listen to the Saudi story - migrant workers being kicked because they did not know how to work a certain machine while in line at the airport. Woman are total property. Listen to this and think about the innocents being beaten, enslaved, and murdered as you drive your car. And Bahrain is very Saudi. To think Formula One racing is thinking of going back to this country that suppresses the Shiites harshly. BBC iPlayer - From Our Own Correspondent: Saudi Arabia and Algeria
