  1. Well, if you think that is shocking maybe you feel the way I do when the story broke of the Chinese Apple iPhone workers committing suicide thirteen times.
  2. After nine years the U.S. troops will leave Iraq and all will be out by January 1st except those staying for the U.S. Embassy. Thank goodness this modern Vietnam is coming to end for our U.S. soldiers. Obama announces end of Iraq war, troops to return home by year end - Political Hotsheet - CBS News President Obama announced Friday that the United States will withdraw nearly all troops from Iraq by the end of the year, effectively bringing the long and polarizing war in Iraq to an end. "After nearly 9 years, America's war in Iraq will be over," said Mr. Obama. He said the last American troops will depart the country by January 1 "with their heads held high, proud of their success, and knowing that the American people stand united in our support for our troops."
  3. Not for sale but for show. There is a pet shop about twelve miles away from me. They have always been knows as one of the nicer pet fish shops because of all the fish and tanks they carried. They had a lion caged up in back. How they go the lion, I don't know. Maybe they saved it from a bad situation. I don't know. What I do know is that it's rather cruel to keep such a large animal like that in a cage. It was a decent sized caged, about the size of a living room and kitchen combined. Still small for such a magnificent creature. But the U.S. overall needs much stronger regulation on wild animal buying. Ohio's new governor, the one who wants to privatize the government, did not renew an executive order dealing with this problem. Maybe he's seen the light after this mess. Kasich Failed To Extend Ohio Ban On Exotic Animals, Now Concedes 'It's A Problem' After Police Kill 49 Escaped Animals | ThinkProgress
  4. States have various laws on what animals you can and can't own. They talked about this on the national news. I'm saying this is a classic example of smaller government. Allowing people to buy wild animals that can kill a person in seconds time is crazy and should be stopped. Small businesses like pet shops do this too. They will buy a lion and cage it up in the back of the shop, trying to bring in more people. It's really disgusting. Let the zoos be the place to view the wild and dangerous animals.
  5. If many of you get your wish and see a smaller government or libertarian government, expect more situations like this - nutcases collecting guns and buying dangerous animals with the innocent getting hurt. I guess it's the innocent peoples fault for not having a rifle powerful enough to put down a tiger or lion.
  6. Most likely you are a statistic. If you were not, political advertising and advertising in general on TV and radio and print would not work.
  7. May he find piece and more happiness in the next life. And may his family, friends and fans overcome their sorrow from losing a man taken too early from this earth.
  8. The title of this thread is called Down with evil corporations!!! We liberals/progressives do not want to end corporations or kill them off. We are not against the basic idea of corporations. And we are not against the wealthy either. I don't care how many Ferrari cars you have. If you have ten and want to buy ten more, fine! If you want to buy a billion Ferrari cars, fine! I don't care. Go buy an old castle in Italy, I don't care. What we are against is the growing bad power that corporations exert. They are gaining more and more power but at the expense of the rights and freedoms of the individual Americans. Plus they show very little loyalty to their home country. We are all equal and should have the same rights. Corporations should not have special rights that let them abuse the rights of the rest of us, the individuals. Your house should have the same importance as any corporation. Your apartment or mobile home or whatever you live in should have the same rights as corporations. And since corporations are not real people, corporations should have far less rights than we humans do. People who argue for the "job makers" are enslaving themselves and their own kind. That's no shock though. Half the men in the country work to enslave their own children. I'm starting to see where the old Greek religion comes from where Cronus eats his old children. It seems to happen every day in America since 1980.
  9. When it comes to employment we have to have real legal laws, not religious laws. It's too easy to pray about it and say - "God told me to fire you, one day before you put your ten years in and earn a pension." And it would be too easy to say - "I prayed about it and God told me to advance my dumb (but pretty) friend and not advance you even though you are far more qualified." There are still a good number of Catholic schools in the country and I don't hear them complaining.
  10. Take a look at the news source - every story comes from a right wing slant. It's very extreme right wing hate news.
  11. 16 GB hard drive? Isn't that rather small for a new computer?
  12. BBC World Service. The Week is also good. Christian Science Monitor.
  13. That's very black or white thinking, so then you should 100 agree with my view that people and corporatiosn who send U.S. jobs to China or Mexico or some other country are commiting treason. Oran's Dictionary of the Law (1983) defines treason as "...[a]...citizen's actions to help a foreign government overthrow, make war against, or seriously injure the [parent nation]." Ethel and Julius Rosenberg = U.S. Multinationals. Those companies that have moved out of the U.S. and the people who helped them move are committing serious injury against the parent nation - the U.S.A. Do you really think corporations are loyal to the U.S.? Many have shown over and over they have zero loyalty to Americans or the U.S.A.
  14. MSNBC had a little news story on Jobs and had the graphic AMERICAN EXCEPTIONALISM on the screen. That "American Exceptionalism" had his products made in a factory in China that was so bad thirteen people committed suicide rather than continue working there. Plus an explosion killed two more people. Apple investigates explosion at iPad factory in China - Telegraph In the right world Jobs would have been hauled up in front of Congress and faced criminal prosecution.
  15. What about LDS money? Didn't Joseph Smith print up some money? I remember reading a book and it being mentioned some people in the U.S. were big LDS money collectors. Do any of you have the old LDS money from the 1800s?
  16. I'm saying the two year option should be available to the U.S. public for those that want or need it. I'm not saying all people must take the two year option. I'm not saying the LDS Church must recognize it. The Church does not have to recognize it and neither do all the other churches in the U.S. I'm not even saying the U.S. should have the two year option for ever and ever. We should enact it and try it out for ten or twenty years. If it's semi-successful then keep it. If hardly anyone uses it then get rid of it. I really don't know what the big deal is about this issue. The divorce rate is extremely high. Studies are showing women are becoming more independent and have discovered they don't need or want traditional marriage. So what does it hurt to try this out for a decade or two? It's not like it's going to hurt many people. If anything it could be a benefit and increase families and their relationships. Nothing much to lose but a lot to gain!
  17. Short nice article by Professor Juan Cole: Amanda Knox and Troy Davis | Informed Comment The overturning of the conviction for murder of Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito by an Italian court on Monday contrasts with the fate of Troy Davis. In both cases, a conviction was built on shoddy evidence. In both cases, during the appeal the weakness of the case became apparent. But in the US, the verdict was allowed to stand. If Amanda Knox had been in Georgia’s legal system, she would probably be dead instead of on an airplane home.
  18. Frankly, I'm seeing "it's been very hard" so much and also considering the number of divorces, this is clear evidence why people should have the option of two year marriages. No one says you must take the two year option. It's about freedom. The two year option would give people more freedom and rights.
  19. That's all good! But there is a large group of people who can't afford the $500 to $700 but can afford the $200.00. I agree with the C.S.M. article link I posted - at $200 it might attract parents to buy it for their kids.
  20. Some say marriage is legalized prostitution. And they would be undertaking marriage commitments - for two years.
  21. That argument is long gone and dead. Again, nearly half the marriages in the U.S. end up in divorce and most reports show marriage is on the decline. As for the kids and single parents, you are going to have that anyway. Keep doing the same and more more divorces or non marriages will take place while the couples have kids. At least if you give them the two year option, those that don't want to get married might try it. The Mexican law sounds very practical.
  22. Nope. And it's really a good idea. The divorce rate is already sky high in the U.S. And all the studies show traditional marriage seems to be on the down slope. There would be no "divorce" after two years, it just ends. That would let all kinds of people in all age groups to try out marriage with someone who they think they want to spend the rest of their life with but is not 100% certain. Give it a two year shot. After two years they can renew again for two years or get a traditional marriage or simply walk away from each other. Of course there should be a few provisions - two year marriages should not be used to make an illegal person a legal person in the country.
  23. This is an excellent thing to do and it might be good to try in the U.S. It sounds like those behind the law in Mexico are dealing with the real world, the REAL world. The U.S. government should offer this and it should be in the sole control of the U.S. government. Let all, hetro/homo/bi's marry for two years and it's recognized in all fifty states. Plus tax on the marriage and everyone can make money from it!
  24. Interesting you both mention Zimbabwe money. I have no desire at all for modern African money. The coin I'm after is a coin from Ptolemaic Egypt period - Cleopatra VII dad - Ptolemy XII Auletes.
  25. I think these tablets could, if done right, help the newspaper industry. When it comes to newspapers all we hear about is how they are losing money and losing subscribers because of the internet and other things. Every newspaper in the country needs to make their paper available on those tablets. The newspaper companies would be smart if they went to the tablet companies like Amazon and Apple and work with them to make their tablets work well with digital newspapers.
