  1. There are always so many feelings with these family things and they run awfully deep! And then you add money and personal responsibility to the mix! Well, it sounds simply awful and I am so sorry. I don't know what I would do. Not sure why your H isn't supporting you. Didn't he want the rent paid on time too? I wonder if everybody just needs a little time to let the dust settle. I think you did the right thing. You kept your expectations clear, and you apologized for the part you felt you playing in the conflict. But, you know, just because you lost your head for a minute doesn't change the fact that you had a business agreement with this girl and she failed to meet her side of it. I don't know. At this point, she is not living with you, right? So maybe at least that part of the problem with take care of itself. Seems to me your H needs to step up here and help negotiate some calmer solutions.
  2. You gotta do it, dude! I just got back with the kids. It was amazing. And we got lucky too. Drove up to old faithful, it went off two minutes later, and then we were on the road again. It was sweet!!! I love nature. Especially when it is so convenient!
  3. There is nothing in our theology that prohibits the use and study of other versions of the bible or other manuscripts.
  4. AHHH yes! New and sanctified. Now I know where you are headed! :) Sounds like you have gotten some great explanations so I won't belabor the points made. I would just like to say that it is absolutely the HG that does the sanctifying. We call that the baptism of fire. At the time of baptism, a person also receives a second ordinance. They are baptized by water and then thru the laying on of hands given the gift of the HG. From that time forward, they have the companionship of the Holy Spirit thru out their lives. We also believe that the taking of the sacrament on Sunday renews the commitments we made at baptism to always remember the Savior and keep His commandments and that the sanctification is renewed as well. We believe that maintaining our sanctification is just as important as receiving of it in the first place.
  5. What Christ did for us is absolutely the most loving thing anyone could ever do. But it is important to understand how he did what he did. You are right when you say that the demands of justice must be satisfied. And you are right that it was possible to make choices against the will of God in the Pre-earth life. But did Jesus actually become sinful when he took on our sin? The answer is absolutely not! If he had become sinful, he would at that point have no power to save. Does that make sense? We sin and owe a debt. Taking upon our sins doesn't mean becoming sinful. It means that he takes the consequences for us and pays the debt. Like a generous benefactor who volunteers to pay our overdue mortgage on certain conditions. He never becomes the debtor, he just satisfies the demands of the bank. Make sense? And He tells us that He will pay the debt and suffer the consequences of our sin, IF, we will change our lives and commit to Him and follow him. Repentance! That is mercy! We pay for our debts thru our obedience to him, rather than suffering the pains of hell. "...what sufferings you know not...etc. etc." (Read D&C 19:1-24) He does what we can't do....overcoming sin and death....and he is able to do that BECAUSE he is sinless and because he is deity! Becoming sinful would only allow Satan to win. Why do you think Satan tempted the Savior in the NT? If only Jesus would have become sinful! He could have thwarted the whole plan of God!! Thru the Atonement, Jesus absolutely defeated Satan and all evil and any and all plans to keep the children of Father from coming home to Him! He didn't lose anything! The results of this sacrifice was only gains! Because of what Jesus did, He stands triumphant in the air! He was sinless before and remains sinless now! And now, Father may accomplish His purpose in bringing to pass the immortality and eteranl life of man!! Jesus will absolutely be in the Celestial realm. Count on it!!! And we will see his face there! He will visit other kingdoms but they will not enjoy the association with the Savior as the residence of the Celestial realm will. Why else would Enos say what he did at the end of his life? Enos 1:27 And I soon go to the place of my rest, which is with my Redeemer; for I know that in him I shall rest. And I rejoice in the day when my mortal shall put on immortality, and shall stand before him; then shall I see his face with pleasure, and he will say unto me: Come unto me, ye blessed, there is a place prepared for you in the mansions of my Father. Amen. He was a perfect, sinless, unblemished sacrifice. He was the firstborn of the Father and is the author and finisher of our faith. And is even now sitting on the right hand of the Father, and ever calling us to follow Him!
  6. Hi Ashley! It sounds to me like you have a wealth of good spiritual and religious experience to draw from. Experience that has brought you where you are today, and that will no doubt enrich your future service to God if you do indeed choose such a path. I know that the church is strong in GA. Not sure what constraints you are under right now that may prevent an LDS association, but I know that there are missionaries and church members all over the state if you wanted to contact them. They most likely will have you start reading the BofM and perhaps start discussing the foundations of our gospel teachings. You said that you had previous LDS experience. So you prolly know that already. If you have a copy, start reading it on your own. With regards to any lifestyle and behaving differently while the rest of the world does what it wants...... I think that some of that will take care of itself as you move closer to the Savior and start gaining testimonies on the different aspects of the gospel. Once you are baptized and have made covenants, you are blessed with the most tremendous gift!! The Holy Ghost! It is your constant companion and it does some pretty remarkable things with your spirit as you are obedient. It will change your appetites and desires for things. You may not want that tattoo anymore. You might opt for a commemorative scrapbook instead. It will also give you strength against temptation. Staying away from the drinking scene might even be easy because you just won't want it anymore. And the more active you are in single adult LDS activities the more that social need will be filled in you. And anyway, all those things....the alcohol, the tattoo, the rings.....they are temporary satisfactions that tend to have long term unforseen consequences. And the consequences aren't really part of what eternal happiness is all about. So giving them up in the long run, really isn't losing much. Never underestimate the power of God to change you and qualify you for his work. This is His work and His glory to bring about such changes in us. This is what our message and invitation to the world is all about! I am glad you are considering the church again. It is an amazing church to be a part of. I cherish my membership. The BofM!! I will never tire of telling anyone and everyone how it has changed my life. There is no other study that has made more of a difference to me. It has anchored me, and taught me, and literally helped me change as a person. Its goal is to bring people to Christ in this latter day time. And to the truly penitent, it truly does that. Good luck and best wishes.
  7. You sound like the elders in my mission. They used to ride their bikes of jumps and cliffs and whatever else and come to Zone Mtg bragging about their cuts and scrapes and broken limbs. They brought pics! The more blood the better. It was extreme sports gone off the deep end....! :::::shaking my head:::::
  8. I have only heard the term once and have no idea what it means.....
  9. Just a note on worrying.....I think Islander has it right. Worry is the fuel to anxiety and the opposite of faith and trust and is not a place of proactive power. I think we deal with crisis or challenges better when we are in a state of peace and faith and trust. We trust ourselves and others to be able to deal with the realities of our lives. Worrying puts us into dealing with 'what if's' which is most of the time our imagination and makes us controlling and panicky and over-reactive. Dealing peacefully with reality is more powerful. Taking steps to keep children safe and educated and then trusting their own strengths and talents and agency. We trust ourselves that we CAN handle the difficulties of life and relationships and struggle and we trust God with the rest. That doesn't mean that worrying isn't human or normal to some degree. What parent hasn't worried about their child at one time or another, especially when that child is making creative choices. But, dealing in our struggles with worry doesn't help the situation or bring about effective solutions. It just makes us and everyone else more crazy and teaches our children that we don't trust them or people or God.

  12. shoes
  13. Weights......and a massage!! soda or diet soda?
  14. Bert, Being Spiritually reborn has nothing what so ever to do with skin color. Sanctification is about cleansing the soul and moving to a place of conformance with Eternal law and one with the Father of us all. Having the light of Christ shining in ones eyes.....in ones countenance is a result of such pursuits. I am with Moksha. This sentiment is hurting my ears!!!!
