A lot of people showed up despite it being Tuesday night at 7pm! I was really surprised, because I didn't even want to do it that night (I have loads of homework I'm trying to do). Anyways, I wanted to thank everyone on this board for their loving support in bringing me and my family into the Church. I'm a recent convert myself (March) so I know how great you feel. When you're 'ready' look into your patriarchal blessing.. it was easily as good as baptism (for me). I couldn't be happier for you and your sweet family. Best wishes to all of you!!!! All of you, who have opened your hearts to such a message! Getting the gift of the HG is such a treasured blessing! I feel gratitude for the Spirit in my life almost every day! Take care with it. Learn what it feels like. And be patient as you learn and grow in these early months and years. You don't have to jump to light speed on knowing everything. The Spirit takes care of the gaps until that knowledge comes to all of us wherever we are at. As long as you feel that companionship, you are exactly where you need to be at any given time. Hugs to you and your family!!! Hope you got lots of wonderful pics and some cherished memories! It always does all of us a world of good to hear from those who have just barely felt of the Spirit and been baptized. Your patriarchal blessing declares your lineage in the house of Israel and contains personal counsel from the Lord to you.As you study your patriarchal blessing and follow the counsel it contains, it will provide guidance, comfort, and protection. To find out how to receive a patriarchal blessing, talk with your bishop or branch president.Declaration of LineageYour patriarchal blessing includes a declaration of your lineage, stating that you are of the house of Israel—a descendant of Abraham, belonging to a specific tribe of Jacob. Many Latter-day Saints are of the tribe of Ephraim, the tribe given the primary responsibility to lead the latter-day work of the Lord.Because each of us has many bloodlines running in us, two members of the same family may be declared as being of different tribes in Israel.It does not matter if your lineage in the house of Israel is through bloodlines or by adoption. If your blessing does not mention an important event, such as a full-time mission or marriage, you should not assume that you will not receive that opportunity.Similarly, you should not assume that everything mentioned in your patriarchal blessing will be fulfilled in this life. A patriarchal blessing is eternal, and its promises may extend into the eternities. Be assured that if you are worthy, all promises will be fulfilled in the Lord’s due time. Those that are not realized in this life will be fulfilled in the next.Your patriarchal blessing is sacred and personal. You may share it with immediate family members, but you should not read it aloud in public or permit others to read it or interpret it. Those who grow up in the Church usually receive it when they are in their late teens. The blessing is given by a Patriarch (every stake has at least one). One feature of the blessing is the pronouncement of the member's "lineage" (i.e. which tribe of Israel the member is descended from--there are specific blessings and responsibilities associated with each tribe). Additionally, the Patriarch will pronounce blessings upon the member, make promises, or give warnings/advice as the spirit of prophecy directs. The blessing is transcribed and a copy is given to the church member (another copy is kept at Church archives in Salt Lake City, in case the member loses their own copy); it is viewed as a guide to which the member may refer throughout his or her lifetime. The last time I ordered a copy of a patriarchal blessing they ask for the request to be in writing.I went to the church website and found the following:Archives: Patriarchal Blessing Request FormI guess moving the family history library will put a kink in getting blessings for those relatives who have passed on. I wouldn't think it would affect the blessings of living members.
