really?? when i used to go to church that was pretty much the only thing that happened!! talking and associating. we'd sometimes spend up to an hour after church talking and associating with everyone. the hallways on the way from sacrament meeting to classes was always crowded with people talking and visiting. maybe i misunderstood, but in the wards i always attended there was definately not a lack of talking and associating.

I agree. Every ward we lived in does a lot of associating and visiting, before, after and inbetween meetings. There are times when we don't leave church for 30 minutes or so after the last meeting, just cuz we're visiting with somebody. We've been warned that we need to stop "visiting" in the chapel pror to Sacrament meeting because we're getting to loud.

Don't even get me started on the visiting that happens during the rest of the week. But yesterday was a good example. The phone rang every hour or so all day, then after hubby got home it was ringing as soon as he hung up.

Calgon. . . take me away. :o

What Ward did you go to?

WE want to move there!:animatedthumbsup:

Our Ward too was chastized awhile back for visiting too much in the Chapel, however the purpose of the Foyer is for this type of activity. Our ward both prior to and after our meeting block is a beehive members visiting with one another in various locations throughout the bldg. This is true for both Adults and teen agers. This is partially in my opinion due to the closeness of the ward and the love of the members for each other, and part because we have a large ward and it covers an area that would take over two hours to drive across it. Thus, Sundays are the only time that many of our members get a chance to see one another. Even our Bishopric and leaders are scattered and do not live close to one another.

I just want to add, I spoke in Sacrament meeting today, and yes, I was the concluding speaker. And yes, we dismissed early, much to my wife's chagrin, as she works in the nursery. I demand an end to this, I want women to be stuck trying to fill in the last 25 minutes of the meeting trying to think of something else to say in addition to their prepared talk.

And Pale, you'd miss talking.

I imagine Pale is an eloquent speaker. I still count myself fortunate that I have never been asked to give a sacrament talk. The ward should count themselves fortunate as well. :)

I want to know why in most of the places I have been....there are always 2 sisters in charge of music...one plays the organ and the other directs the music.....whats up with that.....:D

I've actually seen male organists just as often as female ones. Infact, one of the wards I atteneded in California had had the same male organist for 55 years! He could do *awesome* things on that organ!

My current ward also has a male organist who alternates with another, female, organist, and a male substitute choristor for when the official one is sick or out of town.

I have been a member all my life and have never seen a man play the organ or lead the music other than the Tab Choir...

I am amazed you have never been asked....we use to keep a book and write down names and dates of who spoke...we wanted to make sure we spread it around.....:D

The mini bathroom for the nursery is a great idea especially since I work in the nursery. Last year we had 14 and the year before that 30! This year 6 with 4 more scheduled to come. A bathroom would have been really great. Our ward mixes up who talks and says prayers but it hasn't always been that way. They stopped having the wife/husband speaking a few years ago. I think it ended the day they decided to have my husband speak first and me last. He spoke 4 minutes (it was his first talk) and left me 40 minutes! Not good...but I did it with a lot of testimony thrown in! Now, I don't know if this is where I post this but someone answer this: in our ward we have 2x's as many young women as young men, but the young mens budget is double that of the young women. Anyone know why that would be?

Mine is a relatively old ward. The usual suspects do the most speaking, but they do have the husband and wife in new families speak after they have move into the ward.

Seriously?

In my current ward there are two men who play organ, and one fellow is the Ward Music Chairman too.

In my last ward there were only two organists, and they were female.

Maybe you should learn to play Pale. ;)

is part of that budget the "scout budget"? do your scouts do fund raisers? i know that can have a huge effect on the budgets depending on how that is managed. though i don't agree that it should.

The organist in my ward is a guy, as were the organists in my previous two wards. The Ward Music Chairman in my parents' ward (two wards ago for me) was a guy for like 20 years.

The organists in the wards we've lived in have been both men and women.

The scouting program is funded in the Ward Budget. The how's and why's are up to the Bishop. The Youth are allowed one fund raiser per year.

i have been in areas where the scouts did more than one fundraiser. they did them for very specific events not a general budget but they still did them. now i'm not upset about it, it created opportunities that would not have been possible otherwise for many of the young men and i appreciate that. but at the time, as a yw, it did seem very unfair. the scouts can get away with it cause they are doing fundraisers as a troop not as a quarm. the yw have no such loophole. that can and will effect how much money they have for activities. maybe not "supposed" to be that way, doesn't change what happens.

I'm grateful that I've lived in wards where the fund raising policy has been followed and the girls have had the same money and opportunities as the boys.

In the ward where the Bishop allowed Scouting fund raisers, the scounts lost budget money to the girls.

Are YW organizations not supposed to have fundraisers?? We always had fund raisers leading up to Girl's Camp, usually car washes, and one year we made cookies and chocolate treats that we decorated and wrapped up and sold to members of the ward for Valentine's Day. (they pre-ordered them, then we "delivered" them the Sunday before Valentine's)

In my Stake here in WA we've done huge Spaghetti Dinners and silent auctions that went to both the Scouting *and* YW organizations.

As of six months ago it hadn't changed. One fund raiser per year for Youth Activities, mainly camp.

Our ward does an auction/dinner. . .nothing silent about it. And we have a ton of fun.

Our SP is a very accomplished organist. When visiting our Ward, both before and after becoming SP, he would always provide the beautiful music for our Hymns. And some of the most beautiful singing I have heard, has been from some of our (male) Missionaries, often being accompanied on the piano by their companion. I always appreciate it, because it has been the exception, not the rule.

I agree Truegrits.

I have a CD made by the missionaries in the mission where my son was. They recorded it in the bathroom at the Stake Center. They said the accounstics were best there. :D

Its beautiful.
