xoomer Posted June 7, 2009 Report Posted June 7, 2009 And Realized that I could barely afford the Bible.... I bought it anyways because I wanted to have it, and to be able to read more of it.,.. I got one of those cool little bags too.. I also got a Choose the Right Ring.. to help me to remember my choice. and my path. Anyhow.... I'm just surprised at how expensive this stuff is, but maybe I'm just not used to buying books.... Zach Quote
pam Posted June 7, 2009 Report Posted June 7, 2009 The only thing is...if taken care of your Bible will last a lifetime. So think of it more as an investment than an expense. Quote
Dr T Posted June 7, 2009 Report Posted June 7, 2009 What flavor Bible did you buy? Did you get it at a used book store? The Bible is free on-line too in a number of versions. Just thought I'd tell u. :) Quote
xoomer Posted June 7, 2009 Author Report Posted June 7, 2009 I bought The one from the deseret books.. with the holy bible, and the book of mormon, doctorine and covenents and pearl of great price. Quote
pam Posted June 7, 2009 Report Posted June 7, 2009 So you bought what's called a quad. That's awesome. You will enjoy it. Quote
Dr T Posted June 7, 2009 Report Posted June 7, 2009 I bought my LDS works at the DI in SLC. It was white, leather bound, and inexpensive. Quote
Seanette Posted June 7, 2009 Report Posted June 7, 2009 I sympathize with the OP. I just bought a new quad a couple of months ago (two reasons: needed larger print to accommodate eyesight, and it was my fifteenth baptism anniversary), and spent over $60 for it. I reminded myself I had plenty of reason to lay out that money, and that I was investing in my spiritual growth. Of course, bookstores are dangerous territory for my wallet. DH cringes when I walk into a bookstore (especially Deseret Book) with anything negotiable (cash, checkbook, debit card...) in my possession. I always spend too much there. (sigh) Quote
pam Posted June 7, 2009 Report Posted June 7, 2009 I too just recently bought a new quad at DB. Larger print as well. I know here come the ages jokes again...but luckily there was a misprint in the ad in the newspaper and they had to honor it. I got mine for less than $40. Quote
xoomer Posted June 7, 2009 Author Report Posted June 7, 2009 I'm not so much complaining about the price of it, but I am surprised that they don't have a cheaper quad for us young and not so Well of young Adults.... The only reason I was able to splurge this month is because my birthday is this month and my dad always Gives me money for my birthday.... Quote
NeuroTypical Posted June 7, 2009 Report Posted June 7, 2009 There are bargains available for the budget-minded, if you spend some time looking. Quote
xoomer Posted June 7, 2009 Author Report Posted June 7, 2009 oh now someone tells me, My bishopric, and my elders just told me to check out the book Store... which is cool because there was a lot there that I will be back to get when I have more money... Quote

Seanette Posted June 7, 2009 Report Posted June 7, 2009 yeah, i just dropped 90 bones in Deseret Book...easy to doI figure if I can get out of there with only one unplanned item (I try to only go when I need/want a specific item) or for less than about $50, I did pretty well. Quote
pam Posted June 8, 2009 Report Posted June 8, 2009 now did you get the slightly large print edition, just slightly bigger than the missionary copies (i rock the large print) or did you get the extra large print which is like 9x14 paper? I got the largest ones I saw..but they certainly aren't 9X14 Quote
Jbs2763 Posted June 8, 2009 Report Posted June 8, 2009 at church distribution, they have these extra large print editions, and they are bound like the hardback missionary copies, but they are ginormous.... Quote

Maya Posted June 8, 2009 Report Posted June 8, 2009 I have a bible that is 6x16x10 inces. It is printed as the 1646 version; the first finnish bible. My mother owned one of the first finnish bibles a real one too but gave it to my cousin, who is a preast in teh Lutheran Church as she tought that I would not be interested in an old bible as I am not even lutheran . She has some other old finnish bibles too. A "small " war bible ab. 8x 10x10 ... Think of carrying that in your packpack! However many were saved by the book as the bullet stopped there. This is the most valuable one as so many got destroyed by the war. Uh Pam does that mean that I need to start making everything kind of clare for takeoff?? Quote
nickleboyblue Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 If you're willing to wait a while for shipping, you can order scriptures through the church's official website. That eliminates the middle man. I was trying to buy the cheapest set of extra large print at a book store, but when I realized that the soft, thin-cover bible was a whole fifty bucks, I looked it up on lds.org, and discovered that you could get the same thing for a mere eight dollars. I've received my five dollar triple, but the Bible is still on it's way due to back orders. It takes a long time, sometimes a month or two, but in the end, it's the cheapest unused alternative I am aware of. Quote
mnn727 Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 There are many cheaper places to buy books and scripures than Deseret Book -- in fact just about ANY place is less expensive.Distribution Center Quote
