What is it with girls and horses?

Now, I'm a guy and like horses just fine--they're beautiful animals, and fun to ride. It just seems that a whole LOT of girls seem to get obsessed with horses (and/or ponies or unicorns). What's that about? Is it just a phase girls go through, or is this a lifelong thing? And why is this so? ;)

I think its mainly a phase type thing. I think horses are beautiful creatures, but I'm not obsessed with them. It was around the "tween" stage that I was most into them, but that was about it and then it passsed.

I agree with daenvgiell... it's a phase, hits pre-teens, but don't worry, girls find other things to obsess about as they get older.

Like Boys.

Will someone please tell my wife it's just a phase? I had to promise her horses before she'd marry me.

Now we've got an 1800 lb frisky black Clydesdale that thinks practical jokes are fun. Anyone know what it feels like to be standing there in the dark and feel the ground shaking as something that big and invisible comes barelling towards you in full gallop?

Come on Mahone, have a heart, every kid deserves a little horse now and again.

That's just sick and wrong. Sick and wrong. :P

Mahone, let me explain the circle of life to you. My wife doesn't really like pets. She hates cats and dislikes dogs. I love my wife and am ambivalent towards dogs. So...of course we'll not be getting any dogs. Much as you posted the "no pony" declaration, they'll be no dogs in our household.

We have three girls, 8, 7, and 5. The 8-year old, who is physically about three years ahead of herself, sang the "I wanna dog" song non-stop for months. No...no...no...not gonna happen...don't think so...

...btw, have I mentioned our newest family member...Creamy...she's a 6-month old Maltese...

<sheepishly raises hand> Umm, I'm far from the tween stage and I love horses. Growing up, I played with toy horses and absolutely loved westerns and The Black Stallion series. Now that I'm an adult, I have on my list of things to do before I die list to own a horse. I still follow them with my eyes when I'm driving down a road and see a horse grazing.

Here in Sacramento, we have mounted police (and in the Old Town area, horse-drawn buggies are seen in traffic). I pet the horses any chance I get. :)

Of course, I generally like animals, except for a snake phobia.

I like horses well enough but you'll never catch me on the back of one of them again. I had a horse at a youth camp try and kill me on several occasions during the ride we were on, he only stopped when I promised that if he killed me I was gonna take him with me. Ok so he probably wasn't trying to kill me but as a nervous and inexperienced rider it felt that way. That horse was out to get me  (it comes to me as I'm writing this that I seem to be paranoid about the intentions of a large section of the animal and bug world, well just remember, just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get me ;))

I like horses.

Use to ride alot on my friends horses.

Never could afford one myself.

Always wanted one.

I use to compete in the bronc ride and won a pair of boots one time, a belt buckle and another time I won a 12' bullwhip.

wish I had a horse:mellow:

But I still can't afford one:D

I know when I was a little girl my dream was to own a horse. I still think it would be a cool thing but not a dream like it was many years ago.

Equal opportunity confusion:

What is it with boys and trucks?

Now, I'm a woman and like trucks just fine--they're useful machines, and fun to watch. It just seems that a whole LOT of boys seem to get obsessed with trucks (and/or bulldozers or backhoes). What's that about? Is it just a phase boys go through, or is this a lifelong thing? And why is this so? ;)

I don't think it's just a phase. My husband is 46, and a computer programmer turned forklift operator and he's still fascinated with such things (I joke about "giant Tonka toys").
