Snow Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 My boy goes into the MTC this week. On Friday we had my whole family in from their various home states for an early Thanksgiving dinner... I cooked cajun turkey, roast goose, fricasseed rabbit and grilled squab. On Saturday we took my son to the temple for his endowment. At the temple we, by chance, met a temple worker who was nephew of my now deceased grandfather. He told the story of how the first stake was formed in Montana and they needed a bishop for Helena Montana. There were then no capable candidates so Spencer Kimball called my then inactive, and social drinker - for business purposes - grandfather to Butte for an interview. He thought he was there to be asked to support a calling for his wife but Elder Kimball said he was going to call him to be bishop, but in as much as he was not yet ready, first my grandfather was called to get himself ready and later he was called to be the first bishop. Today, Sunday, my son had his farewell - for the Asuncion Paraguay Mission. It was a double farewell as a 2nd young man had been called to a Japanese mission. After the Sacrament Meeting, five other young men in the ward were set apart in preparation for their upcoming missions. After that we jumped in car and traveled to my nephew’s ward for his farewell - going to the Brasilia Brazil Mission. Tonight he was set apart as a missionary and tomorrow we drive to Provo to drop him off at the MTC. Four weeks ago my other Nephew had his farewell. The way I hear it - the field is white and ready to... Quote
BenRaines Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 Snow, what an awesome experience. When our son entered the MTC it was only two weeks later that our daughter did. What a blessing to the family to have a missionary serving. Ben Raines Quote

Snow Posted November 16, 2009 Author Report Posted November 16, 2009 Awesome story Snow. So my question is..with this history of family in the Church...are you related to Lorenzo Snow by chance?No... you are just confusing me with the famous Snow couplet: "As Snow once was, man may not become. As man is, Snow refuses to be." Quote
Snow Posted November 16, 2009 Author Report Posted November 16, 2009 squab is a small fowl, like a quail.Ben RainesQuail, pigeon, dove - what's the difference. I marinated it and the rabbit overnight in a red wine mixture. Quote
Moksha Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 squab is a small fowl, like a quail.Ben Raines I love to hear this Canadian hockey talk. How much time in the penalty box for a quail?Quail, pigeon, dove - what's the difference. I marinated it and the rabbit overnight in a red wine mixture. Snow, you are a true lover of fine foods and a proud father of a missionary! Congratulations.BTW, stay away from eating penguin. Quote
Hemidakota Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 Congrats....it is so grand to have children on a mission. The field is white and not to ready to harvest but [D&C 77:8, 9] one remains in mortality to complete his salvation. Then the harvest will begin... Quote
Dravin Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 Coolio. Just remember to respond to the letters they have him send home from the MTC. (I'm looking at you Mom.) Quote
Misshalfway Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 So happy for you Snow. Don't have any kids on missions yet, but my parents are serving. It's kind of interesting now. We couldn't really take them into the MTC. They said we had to say our goodbyes in the parking lot. Things are really different now. Maybe that is a good thing. I don't know. Guess the have to do what works. Quote
pam Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 They did that because of the H1N1 virus. It was in the news awhile back. Quote

beefche Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 (edited) Congrats Snow. What a great time for your son. Thanks to him for being worthy and willing to serve. It's a really great story, and I'm really glad you shared it with us, but what the heck is squab???I thought they called new guys in the British Navy "squabs." Seems like that was what they used on my DVDs of Horatio Hornblower... Edited November 16, 2009 by beefche Quote
