FunkyTown Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 I just hope this doesn't turn out like when Lstinthwrld claimed to be a Kung-Fu Fighting, Schwarzenegger-esque Chaplain who was cloistered for the better part of a decade trained by the head of a major church. He disappeared when I asked for proof. Quote
Wingnut Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 some ppl seriously have to much time on their hands.... lol... i won't name names. don't forget this site has a chat room if you get too bored. I fully recognize and acknowledge that I have too much time on my hands. :)There are some people on here who have a wicked amount of useless trivia.Eh, not really. I did a Google search for famous Chicagoans, and from that list only came up with two possibilities. Quote

I wonder if we came up with the same two??I'm really quite disappointed with myself for spending any more time on this though. Quote
pam Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 He's probably not even from Chicago. We don't believe his stories..why should we believe his profile? Quote
SteveMcluuf Posted January 14, 2010 Author Report Posted January 14, 2010 I'm flattered by everyone's effort to identify me and my birth mother but you know I can't tell you or give you ANY more information (the amount you have been able to deduce so far is frightening!). I'm not trying to be mean or anything it is just that I think I'm going to take the money don't want to jeopardize that and violate the NDA. If you don't believe me then fine (even though it IS true) ... all I'm trying to do is be part of an online LDS community. That's it. Quote

That's it.I'll admit I'm highly skeptical. But I am really not proud of myself for being judgmental. I honestly and sincerely apologize for that. I suppose all you say could be true. It's really none of my business. However, let me point out something and take a look at your trail of previous posts. It is very, very easy to lose credibility, online or in person, by a trail of stories such as yours. I guess I'm just saying that sometimes it is wise to consider perceptions. Many times perceptions very quickly become reality in the minds of readers/listeners. In many cases it is wise to keep personal information and stories out of public communities. Anyway, just my .02 for what it's worth.Again, I apologize for being judgmental, sincerely. I also hope everything works out well for you. I'll admit though, I'm still quite skeptical but it's really none of my business. Quote
pam Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 One thing I am curious about though. Your profile states Chicago...but why does the last 2 IP's you logged in with show Germany? Quote

SteveMcluuf Posted January 14, 2010 Author Report Posted January 14, 2010 One thing I am curious about though. Your profile states Chicago...but why does the last 2 IP's you logged in with show Germany?I use a privacy toolbar that proxies my web traffic thru servers around the world. It's something my ISP gives me for free. Check out my login history and you'll see me coming from all over. Happens all the time :) Quote

SteveMcluuf Posted January 15, 2010 Author Report Posted January 15, 2010 So basically you are using an anonymizer?I guess. It is some privacy tool that does a bunch of things and one of them seems to be make it look like I am coming from some other computer. Make sense? Like, I'm in Chicago but it appears I'm coming from a different location, right?Steve Quote
pam Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 Let me state this from a moderator standpoint. Let's face it, there are some credibility issues here. Now add in the fact that someone feels the need to mask their IP and have it coming from different places around the world..tends to make the credibility level go even lower. Please don't argue this happens all the time. I can tell you from being a moderator on this site for many many years..it doesn't happen all the time. Quote
lzalma Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 Steve, good luck! I trust you fully! I hope you can have the money and pray for your bloodary mom. Be a good example to her. Hope you'll be always grateful for who raised you. The Lord will care not how rich you are, how famous you are when you are in final judgement. Quote
Melissa569 Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 Well, if I were not capable of feeling guilt, I might say, "Hey, she cared more about herself than she did about you, and its still the same to this day. So why should you care about her? If the money is tempting, the news channels, tabloids, etc. are probably willing to pay more than your mother is for this story... As a world-wide information source, they are probably wealthier than just one actress, and these days, everyone is desperate for a juicy scoop." But then the holy spirit tells me, "Ok, 1--Two wrongs don't make a right. 2--The love of money is the root of all evil. 3--You don't get anywhere with God by stooping to low levels." And as for taking the money to stay quiet... I don't know if its imoral, because regardless, you're not going to have a relationship with her. And its not like you would be hurting her if you did it. But the thing that would bother me more than any amount of money, or moral issues, is that I might feel very insulted by it all... She will pay me not to tell anyone I'm her kid?? You're not the one with the morality problem, dear. SHE is. You're being offered this money in the first place, because somewhere along the line, she gave her body to someone she wasn't married to, and instead of comming clean about it and raising/loving you herself, she gave you up under the table and is now rejecting you. Another option is, you could just refuse to sign the contract, AND refuse the money. Let her sweat it out for several years, wondering if you're ever gonna say anything. Another thing to consider is, what if (heaven forbid) she ever passes away? Don't you think you have a right to inherit something from your biological mother? Contest the will? Don't you and your wife and kids deserve that after everything you have been through in life? Now, again, that's the angry side of me talking. But still, many of these things are worth considering. The religious side of me says "Just walk away". Don't sign the paper (the money will run out eventually, and you may regret doing it later), don't take the money, and don't do anything out of vindictiveness. Just let all the stones of life drop where they may, naturally, without any help from you. That way, you will never have anything to feel confused or guilty about. You can't feel guilty about not signing the paper or destroying her reputation, if you never say anything to anyone. And if you can't stay quiet without the money, you won't be able to stay quiet with it either (because again, it will run out some day). Either way, in the end, you're going to end up having to be quiet, without any money. Why mess with your sense of self respect? Quote

Maya Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 I am adapted and I am thankful for my mother that she gave me to adaption. I got a really good home. My kids had 6 grandparents or actually 8 as my mon and dad did not marry each other but someone else. I feel very rich. I also have half sisters and brothers, which was pretty cool to find out, people who look like me...weird. I have visited my mother and them in an other country and I found my dad a bit earlier. Yet my ad parents are my parents and I think I will be sealed to them. My dad could not have kids. Today I think I would have been aborted.... Quote

Nice to know they are watching that stuff though.I don't see any proxy facilities in that toolbar. I'm a little skeptical that an official ISP would actively promote the masking of an IP address via a proxy. While it's not illegal (in most places), the protection that doing this offers is minute in comparision to the security risks it causes. The data you send and receive has to actually go through the computer that has the IP address you are masking your own with. So basically your ISP would have to run official proxy networks in many countries (very unlikely, not at all cost effective - especially for a free toolbar) or the toolbar uses unofficial proxies. You work in IT... and you did online banking though a proxy? A proxy in Russia of which you have no idea who owns it, or is looking at the data you send and receive through it? I don't believe that. Yes, it's encrypted, but it's way too much of a risk considering the very little benefits of it. Any IT guy would know this. The other reason I believe ISPs would not generally promote the masking of IP addresses is to make it easier for the authorities to trace those within their own country who do illegal activities online. I can imagine those who within government who have the job of tracing these people would have a serious word to say to any ISP that officially promotes this activity.Something smells fishy here, in everything you say. NeuroTypical Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 They have anonymizers now? Where do I sign up? LM (Being suspected of not being who I am, is a small price to pay for increased anonymissitude.) Quote
Wisc Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 Its totally normal for people who like to have control to get upset and say you're being suspicious whenever they discover that they cant control you. Its not hiding its called none of your business. What if you got someone on the witness relocation program that wants to partake in the chat but needs to remain anonymous? Are they automatically less credible because nosy mods cant trace their IP? As a point of fact I think I'll go change my settings right now :) :) Quote
HiJolly Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 I'm really enjoying this thread. It's like a soap opera. And about as believable, but hey -- I'm enjoying it. HiJolly Quote
