Churchmouse Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 PETA(People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has come up with another hair-brained idea. With Groundhog Day coming up they want to people in Pennsylvania to free Punxsutawney Phil and replace him with a robot. They claim he is mistreated by being held "captive". One of the orgainizers of the annual event made the point that Phil eats better and has better health care than many children in the country. They come up with so many crazy ideas that when they have a legitimate claim noone pays attention to them. Quote
Wingnut Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 He's being held captive... Does PETA know that groundhogs typically live in the ground? Quote
dazed-and-confused Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 when i first saw this thread, i thought it was going to be about the ice skater wearing fox fur and their response to him. he said he was more concerned about how many people are dying and starving in the world and THAT was his choice. Palerider Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 PETA.....I wish they and Al Gore would board a space shuttle and dock at the space station for a few months or so....:) Quote
Bini Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 If only PETA weren't off their rocker and could steer their passion towards better methods. I am an animal-welfare advocate and I do not support PETA. Quote
atheist231 Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 I happen to respect and support PETA, despite what you think, they have brought animal rights a long way. No longer is it something people don't really mention, they show the cold, hard facts of how horribly we treat innocent animals. (I dare you to watch some of their videos of slaughter houses or testing labs) Animals that have more of a right to this Earth than we do- at least they are not destroying it. Quote

(I dare you to watch some of their videos of slaughter houses or testing labs) Animals that have more of a right to this Earth than we do- at least they are not destroying it.Animals, when given the opportunity, will expand as much as the resources allow, then those resources are exhausted and the population dies out. The idea that bunny rabbits won't breed and consume as much as they are capable of doing so because of some moral superiority is laughable. They will and they do, and then they die in droves. Then the cycle takes off again as the environment they depend upon recovers in their low period. You want to say we are sentient and can make a conscious choice and should make it, that's fine. But animals aren't tree huggers unless they are climbing or eating them. Edited January 28, 2010 by Dravin Quote
trixie Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Every morning I get a reminder of the idiocy that is The Legion of Do-- erm, I mean PETA, as my school under the shadow of their headquarters here Norfolk. As I never have anything nice to say about them, I'll stop here and not say anything Quote

(I dare you to watch some of their videos of slaughter houses or testing labs) Animals that have more of a right to this Earth than we do- at least they are not destroying it.Are you kidding me? You really should look into what PETA really spends their time and money doing. It's not hardly saving any animals. Rather it's terrorizing, vandalizing, and harassing humans.See this Newsweek article on PETA's euthenasia program. PETA and Euthanasia - Newsweek.comor see the PETA website itself PETA Media Center > Factsheets > Euthanasia: The Compassionate OptionPETA officials, including a president, have been affiliated (including funding) with the top two domestic terrorist groups (as identified by the FBI) in the USA, the Earth Liberation Front and the Animal Liberation Front. Yes, no kidding. These groups are known for carrying out violent acts and arson in support of their ideals. This organization places your human life on equal with that of a roaster chicken on a farm. Are you really supporting that?? Really??PETA is the most successful RADICAL organization in the US because their supporters fail to look past the cover of being nice to animals to what the organization really stands for and supports. You should check out the activities they are involved in. Their spay and neuter program (one of their priorities) gets a miniscule amount of funding and attention in their $30 million/year revenue. An exerpt from a statement from PETA from March 2009 "Since 2001, PETA's low- to no-cost spay-and-neuter mobile clinics, SNIP and ABC, have sterilized more than 50,000 animals"Are you kidding me?? In 8 years, taking in $30 million dollars a year, the organization managed to average 6500 or so per year spayed/neutered pets?? And this is a priority?? I mean, that's 130 per state per year. Really?? That's the best you can do in a "priority"?Don't make the mistake of taking what PETA says at face value. It's a front. Quote
bytebear Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 I wouldn't have a problem with PETA if they just stuck to they wacky ad campaigns and crazy suggestions, but strong evidence points to their funding ALF (Animal Liberation Front), a radical group who has murdered people in the name of animal rights. PETA is evil. Quote
john doe Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 I'm a charter member of PETA-- People Eating Tasty Animals. Cows are my animal of choice, but I also like pigs and chickens too. Quote
havejoy Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 PETA doesn't think people should have dogs and cats as pets. They believe it's akin to slavery. I believe they are correct in this belief. I am owned by 3 dogs. I have to spend the first hour of my morning taking them for walks and making them their breakfast. During the rest of the day I have to give them massages, feed them again, take them for more walks and if needed, draw their bath water, bathe them, towel them dry and rub their bellies some more. For all of this work I don't receive a dime. In fact I have to pay for their food and any medical bills they accrue. Yep, it's slavery. Quote
john doe Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Sounds kinda like parenthood.Yeah, until you grow old and ask the dog if you can move in with him and let him take care of you in your old age. Then we'll see how much that animal really loves you. Quote

Let's let Phil go and put you in the hole. Then you can pop out Monday and tell us when Spring is coming. Quote
RanMan Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 most of us aren't children anymore, and have the capacity to be cognitive of morals and responsibilities....Innocent doesn't have to mean childish or child like. It can also mean free from wrong doing. In fact, I would say that children are free from wrong doing because they are too young to know the difference. My point being, where is the wrong in what was listed? Why are we wrong for consuming beef and taking the necessary steps to do that? :) Quote
