Sleepwalking basically. Does anyone live with somnambulism or have a family member that does?

Hubby had an unexpected episode last night. I had gone to bed early and he stayed up for several more hours. I was awakened when he crawled into bed and told me that he woke up in the pitch black downstairs in the basement. I asked him what he was doing down there to begin with and he said that he didn't know how he got there but that his cell phone sounded and woke him up. I then asked him if he was laying down or standing up when he came to and he said standing up! Needless to say, I was quite a bit shaken up from this myself.

I had a few episodes of sleepwalking when my twins were babies. It can be caused by a lack of sleep so make sure hubby is getting plenty.

I do have a brother who has always sleepwalked but he's never gotten hurt or anything. He usually just checks out the refrigerator and then goes back to bed. This brother also sleeps with his eyes partially open....kinda always creeped me out.

That's so bizarre...

Saturday afternoon my wife came home unexpectedly (she was supposed to be shopping for a few hours) and found me in a deep slumber reading the 2009 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition.

Thank goodness she found be and woke me up before I did something dangerous like playing a round of sleep golf.

A long time ago my wife watched me climb into the laundry basket holding a sheet up over my head. Apparently, climbing in the basket was a good way to hide, and I was going to surprise "them" and throw the blanket over them.

My brother sometimes does this too. He's not sleep deprived - he just dreams he is going somewhere and actually gets up and does it. Or at least, that's how he explained it -he dreams of doing something and he wakes up somewhere. Talks in his sleep too. You can sometimes hold a conversation with him while he is sleeping.

I had a few bouts of sleepwalking as a child. One I woke up in my closet (very frightening), another hanging from the edge of the kitchen table, and last about to go to the bathroom... in my parents room! o.O Thankfully they caught me and directed me to the real bathroom.

One of my nephews also recently had an episode. He did not sleepwalk, but he started crying and moaning in his sleep as if having a nightmare. When we attempted to wake him, he sat up and opened his eyes, but he was just staring off into space, his eyes glazed over. We spoke to him, waved our hands in front of his face, snapped our fingers by his ears and got no response. When we layed him back down, his eyes remained open for a while, before he started giggling, closed his eyes and went back to "sleep".

Yeah...That doesn't work with my bishop. Good effort though.

i actually did this when i was younger. Apparently i woke up while my parents had guests, walked out the front door onto the front landing and proceeded to go to the toilet.

I also did this while staying at a friends place with my sister. I apparently walked downstairs, walked into the room where my sister was asleep on a matress and got ready to aim to go to the toilet. I was foiled by my best friends mother.

I eventually grew out of it.

not enough to be diagnosed with it, but we've had tthe occasional memeber in the family do it once in a blue moon... usually provides a good funny story.

Think the funniest one was when my mom was much younger (early teens I think) and she had a younger bro who was sleep walking and woke her up, apparently it looked like who was about to use her closet for abthroom.... needless to say she woke him up really fast.

lol had a companion on my mission that was talking in his sleep once... was asking discussion oriented questions.

does he take sleep meds? sleep walking can be a serious side effect of them. i suggest he never take sleep meds if he was not on them. sleep walking tends to run in families and males tend to sleep walk more than women. i wouldn't worry to much about it. if you are really concerned put a chime on the doors to the outside so you will wake up if he tries to go out.

Funny story regarding sleepwalking:

When I was living in the college dorms, one night I forgot to lock my door before going to bed. Someone came in my room and proceeded to start climing into bed with me. In a half-asleep, half-awake state myself, I scooted over to make room, thinking I was home and this was my younger sister. Once this girl was laying next to me though, I slowly woke up all the way, realized where I was and that I had no idea who this person was.

I lept out of bed, scared out of my wits and looked at this sleeping girl in my bed wondering what on earth I should do. It seemed my only option was to wake her up and tell her she was in my bed... which I did. When she woke up, she started, lept from the bed herself, started apologizing profusely, explained she was sleepwalking, and went out the door.

I locked the door, and never forgot to lock it again.

I've fallen asleep while sitting at the computer before, which leads me to wonder about the possiblity of sleep posting.

I think you have it backwards.

It's you posting that puts us both to sleep. ;)

I only sleepwalk when I am extremely stressed out. If I am mostly stressed out I will talk in my sleep. Fortunately it doesn't happen very often and it mostly depends on how my work projects are going. I mostly have dreams about something being out of place, or maybe someone in the house or closet, so I get up to check, or put something back in place. I have woken up to see my nightstand moved sideways, or my computer monitor moved to the floor. So, I guess I am more of a sleep furniture arranger, than a walker.

I have done it before more than once, as a child. I have also been known to talk quite a bit in my sleep, but sadly nothing of interest AFAIK. Anyone who happens to hear it usually has great fun telling me about it the next day though.
