Happy Black History Month everybody!!!! This year I'm really excited because I did some research on one of those ancestry web sites and I've discovered that my great great great (etc.) grandfather was black and he was involved with the underground railroad. Very cool.

That actual wording of that saying could be taken as offensive or racial.

Very cool! My wife had some relatives who worked on the railroad too. Some of them kept very meticulous records. If you give me the name of your ancestor I'll check to see if maybe there is record of them meeting.

My 7th great uncle, Obediah Denham, founded a town in Ohio and allowed no slave owners to buy lots or to be members of the church. The rumors passed down in the family are that it was a 'station' in the underground railroad but I don't know where to look for proof.

I am kind of slow at some things but I discovered quite some time ago that we are all G-d’s children and are brothers and sisters. Not only are we all the same race but we are all the same family. Racial prejudice is an urban myth and in really does not nor can it exist. Prejudice does exist but in truth it is not racial.

My husband is half black, and there's been no family history done on that side of the family; partially because they're not LDS and not interested in genealogy, partially because the records are so fuzzy due to slavery. His grandfather isn't even sure of his own birthdate. My patriarchal blessing says I need to do family history; mine is done as far back as it can go, so that can only mean I have to help with his. What a challenge!

It's only not racial under the premise (with which I agree) that race is an illusion. That said, there are indeed many who are deceived by this illusion and who very much discriminate based on that illusion.
