I've never been active on a board where the mods didn't post regularly. In fact, it's a little surprising to me that Heather posts so rarely.

Don't most mods post often on their respective boards?

Elphaba

I know of one board where the posters are given a new name after undergoing some sort of moderation ceremony involving goat leggings. However, depending on which day of the week it is, they have to share the name of some pagan Greek gods and the same creepy avatar.

Glad LDS.net does not do that.

In Heather's defense, when you are the VP of Technology for a foundation that has 100+ websites, she rarely has time to sit and post on a particular site. She pretty much leaves the running of the site to me and to the other moderators. I'm in constant contact with her to keep her up to date of any issues that might arise.

I always thought of Heather kind of like Tom from myspace. He's there, but you are never really convinced he's real.

Of course the person I've gone to a Christmas party with and sat in meetings with could just be a figment of my imagination. :)

Oh, my! Who is THAT?

I would consider giving up my Johnny for him!

Well, maybe not. but still . . . .

Hubba hubba

What Elphaba? Just one of the hottest guys on the planet. That's Shemar Moore who is currently on Criminal Minds. I first started watching him when he was a regular on The Young and The Restless years and years ago.

If I gave the impression I was criticizing her, I didn't mean to. I was surprised, that's all.

I never watch television so I'm always out of the loop when it comes to young actors.

Thanks for telling me who he is. Netflix, here I come. :P

No I didn't get the impression. I just wanted to clarify for anyone else that might read it and get the wrong impression.

He is very handsome but I think the guy from Prison Break (Wentworth Miller) is wowww! :D

Okay Suzie, let's make a deal. You can have Wentworth, I'll stick with Shemar. That way there is no competition. :)

I've been a member of a fair few message boards over the past few years (particularly in my college days; you know how that works, free periods need filling up somehow). I usually tend to find that the successful ones work in a similar hierarchy to this one. There are usually a series of moderators, who do all the subordinate work. These moderators are usually overseen by one or two head moderators that directly see all the issues and complaints that members bring up and respond accordingly, and delegate to the subordinates. These head moderators are overseen by one or two administrators who generally work on the backend of the site, and only tend to make an appearance on the public front end of the forum to make site announcements or deal with major issues.

This is because the moderators and head moderators are sometimes too close/interact too much with the users of the forum to always have their respect, they are often seen simply as other users and people start yelling "power trip" when any moderation action is taken. If an issue gets out of hand, then an administrator makes a rare appearance on the scene to handle the issue themselves. Because their appearance and interaction is so rare, any moderation action taken is usually just accepted by most and the situation is solved.

I don't know if this makes sense to anyone but me, it's just what I've witnessed on other popular forums, which are still online to this day.

Makes tremendous sense to me and I'm in total agreement in how you presented it. I wish I could thank you 10X.
