Pam mentioned Carl's Jr in another thread which reminded me that some companies offer the same product (or in this case it's the same franchise) but under different names. I know a few, does anyone know any others?

The ones I know:

Arnolds (Welcome to Arnold) is Orowheat ( Welcome to Oroweat )

Edy's (Edy's® Grand Ice Cream) is Dreyer's (Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream)

Hellman's (Hellmann?s Mayonnaise Recipes ) is Best Food's (Best Foods Mayonnaise Recipes)

And of course Hardee's (Hardee's®) is Carl's Jr, (Carl's Jr.®)

Well there is the Kentucky Fried Chicken/ A&W connection. Is that what you mean?

No, I'm thinking products or franchises that go by different names depending on where they are in the US. So for instance for A&W and KFC to be what I'm talking about they'd be the same restaurant but called say KFC on the east coast but A&W on the west coast. I imagine you see that happening most often internationally for instance Walker's Crisps (Home) have the same logo and parent company as Lays Chips (LAY'S® | Frito-Lay).

ahhh lol I didnt know of any like that. So did they start doing that like Smiths and Kroegers did? A company got bought out but did not change its current stores names?

Actually Smith's and Kroger is a decent example. You can even use your Smith's membership cards at Kroger stores and vis versa even. I suspect that buyouts are a common reason, where they bought a company but didn't want to loose the brand loyalty and history by re-branding the stores or product.

Fred Meyer in the west is Kroeger's in some other faraway place (and I think they bought out the Utah Smith's chain, as well). Fred Meyer also owns the QFC chain, I believe.

I believe Dreyer's ice cream is called Edy's in the east.

"Chuck E. Cheese's" in the US is known everywhere else in the world as "the institute for the criminally insane".

Sorry, I see a couple of mine were already cited, including on DRAVIN'S ORIGINAL POST.

I really do read before posting, generally speaking. Really. I do. Seriously.

Ohh did not know Frys was same as Kroger. Amazing the things a person can learn on here.

I didn't know either until my daughter moved to Phoenix and I took her grocery shopping at Fry's. The clerk asked if we had a discount card. We said she had just moved there. He started naming off stores that are Kroger... that's how I knew about Smith's/Fry's connection to Kroger.

I miss having a Fred Meyer store here. Kroger didn't even give us a Smith's Marketplace. The building is empty and has been for years. :( We just have two Smith's grocery stores. I need an alternative to Walmart for other things.

Kroger = Smith's = Fry's = Fred Meyer = Kroger - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Shortly after my husband quit working at Fred Meyer in Utah, Frey Meyer bought out Smith's. Kroger was in the process of trying to buy Smith's. So...Kroger bought it all. I don't believe Kroger owns the Fred Meyer Jewelry stores, but I could be wrong

Fry's, huh? So I can get that laptop memory expansion and pick up a gallon of milk while I'm there?

In Arizona, there is a Fry's Electronics then there is the Fry's Marketplace (groceries & housewares, etc. Fry's aka Fred Meyer's, Kroeger, QFC. just to name a few.

The one big difference between Fry's Marketplace and F.Meyer- NO clothes and no tools at the Marketplace. Can buy furniture there, garden decorations, bath, dishes, etc.

I have only come across QFC in Washington state- Seattle to be exact. They are THE most expensive grocery to shop in.

Even their sales cost more than regular price at Safeway, Albertson's or Thriftway's.

There is one not three blocks from my sisters home, no way will she shop there. She will drive 1/2 mile to shop at the Safeway store. Fred Meyer near her is really run down and seedy. The vegetables are never very fresh and the meats -well, lets just say they should have been sold as Manager's Specials three days earlier. She shops there for the housewares, personal hygiene, NOT the food.

When she does her BIG shopping, she shops at Costco, Penny Saver and there is another one that I can't remember- the warehouse stores. Three years ago just before Thanksgiving, I went with her and she spent over $600 on canned, boxed & bottled goods. Took the niece and two nephews nearly 30 minutes to unload the mini-van! We left her mini-van there, took my car and went and got take-out for dinner! No way either of us wanted to cook after spending 6 hours shopping.

KFC/Taco Bell/Pizza Hut are all owned by the same company that spun off from pepsico.

Also, Safeway = Vons = Pavilions, but that's pretty obscure.

I was about to say this exact one.

How about name brand companies that also make private lable foods. Like the major name brands that also produce the same thing under great value (wal-mart) labels? Tons of those out there.

Vons and Saveway are the same?

Well I know Simplot potatoes makes all sorts of private name potatoes. They did Albertsons, McDonalds etc at one time. Dont know about now.

One thing I did learn then is that the generic brands are not as good. lol. Lots more defects let through and Albertsons at that time did not have very high standards either.

Store brands have always been packaged & labeled by name brands. Back decades ago when the Middle Schools still taught Home Economics, we were taught how to shop for quality foods without paying for 'Name' brands.

Read the label! See where and who packaged the product. I used to have all of the store brands done by name brands memorized- now, I just know that Fred Meyer Mayo is icky- Safeway's is good. Great Value peanut butter is bland, not even enough peanut taste to use in cooking - Albertson's/Fred Meyer/Safeway is great. Oh, and Western Family brands- most everything is good.

Read the labels- compare to the pricer 'Name' brands.

Just two weeks ago I purchased Safeway's Private Selection frozen Lasagna Entrée. Tastes the same as Stouffer's. Stouffer's sells for 12.99 for the 80 oz and seldom goes on sale or has manufactures coupons. Safeway PS normally sells for $10.99, was on sale for $8.99, used a store coupon and got it for $6.99. There was a limit of 3- so I got 3. Gave one to my neighbor, she has been gone for 7 weeks and her husband and teen boy ate nearly all of the food in freezer and they were short on $. That 80 oz. entrée fed them for two dinners and one lunch!

I will only purchase Walmart's Great Value when it comes to non-food items. I have yet to figure out what name brand packages for them.

Our Fred Meyer here just started carrying Home products. Got their TP, PTowels and Tissues (got a 30 count double roll TP for $4.99 on sale!!)goes for $8.99 regular price, they are 1/2, or more, than the price of Northern! As their other items come up for sale, I will try them.

Fred Meyer has dropped the price of name brands in the last several months. Marie Callandar's frozen foods are 1/2 the price that any other store sells them for- NONE are over $3.00! Idahoan instant mashed potatoes in the envelopes are $1.00 each- used to be $1.39 each.Kraft Mayo/MWhip under $4.00 same with Hellman's.

Ever since the local WalMart started construction to add the full grocery department, that is when FM prices dropped! It is so weird to have certain 'Name' brands the same price as FM store brands.
