I haven't read much about this news story because it makes my stomach turn. But in case someone else has, I just have one question: why did the other guy lie there for so long and take it?

Because he was pummeled into submission by someone younger and stronger.

It is my understanding that they were both standing up when it started. In one article I read it made it sound as if the attacker started stripping the other guy's clothes off. I think the video that shows them both laying down is toward the end of the attack. I'm guessing they were both under the influence of drugs.

I don't understand why someone would want to try bath salts. A friend's son tried it once, she said he went crazy and busted out a window in his car. They took him to the hospital where he nearly died. He is 6' 3" and weighs 200 or more pounds, someone you don't want in your house when he goes psycho.

The attack is said to be 18 minutes long. It's hard to wrap my brain around. I admit I'm not trying very hard too, though.

Just say no, kids.

There is some nasty stuff out there these days. Doesn't anyone just smoke some dope and sit around listening to Yes?

That would be President Obama.

The thing with the bath salts is that is what they do. Violent bizarre acts. We are going to see a lot more of this since the kind that causes this reaction isnt even controlled in most places.

Not long after that story the one where the guy ripped out his own intestines and was throwing the bits and pieces at people hit the news.

I think the guy that rode up on his bike and yelled at the guy to get off deserves a medal, lol.

If I saw someone chewing another person's face off I think I would run as fast as I could in the opposite direction.

There was one article I read where the attacker's mother was upset that the police officer killed him. She thought they should have just tazed him a couple of times. The police officer shot him once first but the guy just looked up and growled at him. I think the police officer did the right thing by killing him. What if the guy would have turned on someone else, or got away?

What is the *draw* of the bath salts? I mean, usually illicit drugs have the "benefit" of making one feel relaxed, or euphoric, or some other pleasant emotion while high. These bath salts, from the few articles I've been able to find about them, don't seem to do any of that, and so I'm wondering what makes people even want to try it?

Ya, and I also cut the cop some slack because of the gruesomeness of what he saw. You would have to have *beyond* nerves of steel to not be greatly disturbed by that sight. Shooting the guy may or may not have been the right decision, but d*mn, I doubt I'd have been much better at making a clear, concise decision when faced with something like that.

My husband and I had this exact conversation. Besides escape, what is the benefit? And is it really escape when you're having terrifying hallucinations?

especially if the hallucinations are something horrible you are actually doing?

Ya. I wonder what this "zombie" guys reaction would have been, had he not been shot, when the drug wore off and he realized what he had actually done, especially if his family members' claims of his being a "nice guy" are accurate.

It's moments like these that make me seriously question how committed I am to wanting children. The world has changed so much just in my less-than-forty years, people from either time would barely recognize the other, and it's not trending better in many areas.

My other thought is that Heavenly Father knew about all this from the start, and whatever worse things we've yet to realize. Just makes me stop and ponder.

Bath salts = cheap high.

People on bath salts are dangerous. The last one I fought I got worn out to the point I wondered how the fight was going to end. Fortunately in handcuffs.

Good shoot on the officer's part.

I finally decided to open up this thread and see what the fuss was about. Boy, that's one heck of a story. I too, can't comprehend how someone could take 18 minutes of pure torture like that, and survive, though barely..
