Bini Posted November 12, 2012 Report Posted November 12, 2012 Apparently 3 people have "unfriended" me on Facebook. I have no doubt that this is due to my political views that I've been open about, including, never mentioning the "R" word but posting campaign links onto my wall which automatically streams to the very public News Feed. No hard feelings on this end. Honestly, going through my friends list, I can't figure out who these mysterious 3 people are.. Anyway, there's this app called UnfriendApp, which supposedly gives you the names of those that have dropped you from their happy little circles :) I haven't used it, not sure if I will but if I'm to be honest, a part of me IS curious.. Even if just a little. Quote

Even if just a little. The day after the results of the election as I walked into the office at work, my first statement was that if facebooks daily backups are incremental, the biggest change in the log for that day would be the friend relationship database. It really was quite amusing reading the various posts about reduced friend counts. Quote

Even if just a little.I seriously doubt three people have unfriended you. I got the same message. I believe it's completely bogus; the fudge text says that "on average" three people unfriend someone every month (or something like that). It is just a ploy to get you to install their app. I could be wrong, but I am willing to bet actual US currency that I am not.I do not ever install FB apps. Ever. Under any circumstances. That would be my advice to you. Quote
Windseeker Posted November 12, 2012 Report Posted November 12, 2012 I've been known to spout off politically on this board, but you may be surprised to know I don't post likes or anything political on my FB. Everyone views FB differently, but for me it's a place to keep in touch with my Family, old friends and new friends and we don't always see eye to eye on politics. I have my political views listed in 'about' but I don't put allot on there. I feels it's a little inconsiderate and bad form to discuss politics on FB. When people focus too much on politics rather then unfriending them I just stop monitoring all of their posts. I don't kick them off my friends list. I do the same things to my friends who do allot of social marketing. To each their own. Quote

Bini Posted November 12, 2012 Author Report Posted November 12, 2012 What happens when people unfriend you on Fb? Do their accounts appear as "deactivated"? I do have some of those that I need to weed out.. Quote

classylady Posted November 12, 2012 Report Posted November 12, 2012 What happens when people unfriend you on Fb? Do their accounts appear as "deactivated"? I do have some of those that I need to weed out..My experience: I never know when I've been unfriended until I happen to look at the number of FB friends I have, and the number has gone down. Then I page through my friends to try and see if I can figure out who unfriended me. Usually can't figure it out because I have too many FB friends. When one of my friends deactivates their own account they automatically are dropped from my friends list. And, yes. I am always curious as to the whys of unfriending me. Quote

Guest Posted November 12, 2012 Report Posted November 12, 2012 The app only works after it's installed. It won't tell you retroactively who has unfriended you. Quote
Vort Posted November 12, 2012 Report Posted November 12, 2012 As to whether I'm curious: Sure, I would always be interested to know who unfriended me and why. But even if I knew, I'm not going to write to them and ask. Unfriending me is prima facie proof that they don't want to carry on any Facebook correspondence, which is more than enough for me to oblige their wishes. (I don't know for a fact that anyone has unfriended me on Facebook, but I assume I have had my share.) Quote
pam Posted November 12, 2012 Report Posted November 12, 2012 How funny. I got a thing that 3 people had unfriended me too yet I still am showing the same number of friends. It's all a scam to get information. Quote

They may have 'deactivated' their account and then re-activated it. I've done this a few times... but I'm like a bad penny - I always turn up again! :) Quote

Even if just a little.Bini, I have been un-friended by three friends, every other time I sign on to FB, since the 7th of November - yet the total number of my friends has not changed. It is a scam - they want you to download an app; and personally I feel that if you do download it you are going to download a lot of crap with it. I just changed my privacy perimeters so that only I can see my friends pics. Had a new friend send a message to one of my friends. She is married and he is not. It was innocent, and he has apologized to me, and I passed the apology on to her. But I did not know that my friends could see the pictures and profiles of my other friends. Quote
HoosierGuy Posted November 13, 2012 Report Posted November 13, 2012 Facebook is abit confusing. I thought I had been unfriended by some, but somehow they are back as friends. Glitch? I hope not. A girl unfriended me after she got married. Tonight I was browsing my friends list and noticed she was back as a friend. I could even go to her timelineand look at her pictures. Probably a glitch. Quote
HoosierGuy Posted November 13, 2012 Report Posted November 13, 2012 Interesting. I just checked the list again and she is still there but three or four others that have unfriended me are still gone. Nice! Quote
Wingnut Posted November 13, 2012 Report Posted November 13, 2012 Facebook is abit confusing. I thought I had been unfriended by some, but somehow they are back as friends. Glitch?A person can temporarily deactivate their account. A friend of mine did this a few weeks before the election. She was really stressed out about things (she's very conservative and very political), and she was due with her fifth child a few days before the election. Two days ago, she popped back up in my news feed. All her past posts, friends, etc. are still there. People can do that if they just feel like they need to take a break or something. If anybody wants this functionality, Social Fixer is a browser plugin for facebook that actually does this (via snapshots of your friend list).I use Social Fixer -- it's great!
