I need a happy post.

What's something good in your life right now? An Easter outfit, an amaaaaazing cookie, a letter from your missionary, new game, act of service, kudos at work, shaved a minute off your mile, had a real conversation with complete sentences last week at 2pm, ate whoosh cream from the can, rocked a homework assignment, copious napping had by all...

Something.

Anything.

Running the entire spectrum of "good". From silly to solid to deeply touching. What's currently uplifting in your lives?

* For anyone without kidlets or a taste for children's programming, the title quote is from "Despicable Me" where -after many disasters- a stuffed unicorn is given to a little girl and is what she shouts in pure unadulterated joy as she squashes it to her & thanks them.

I have really great friends who know and love me and support me, and make me laugh til my sides ache, for the first time in my life. It's nice.

Ok...this is kind of weird (oops, that wasn't one of the catagories...oh well), and very sweet....

The best thing in my life is my husband...let me give you two examples...

When we were newlyweds, one time we both got this stomach bug really bad. You know the kind I mean vomiting and . . . He "recovered" before I did, and took care of me. Only after I was recovered, did he let on that he was still sick. He had been going outside to throw up so that I wouldn't know. Approx 20 yrs later, I still think that was a wonderful sacrifice!

The other thing he did that makes me laugh (though I shouldn't tell you because no one seems to think it is funny but me...I still laugh though, so I'll tell you any way.) After I had our fifth child...complications for both the baby and I...he brought me "dumpster flowers".

They looked fine. The nurse who brought me the wheelchair couldn't see anything wrong with them. But my husband was working with the a flower/landscaping company at the time, and I knew the strict standards for potted flowers to sell. If flowers did not meet these strict selling points they just threw them away...perfectly good plants, that just didn't look good enough. They put them in the dumpster...where my husband would sometimes rescue them.

People never seem to understand why I thought that was so funny (still do!) but my sister's husband brought her roses when she had a baby, and my husband---because he is so-o-o frugal, brought me flowers he got out of the trash. Bahahah...I just loved him all the more for it. Who needs roses anyway?

There are more recent examples of course, but I'll stop here!

Thanks to the wonderful mother of my children, the Student Education Plan (SEP) were wonderful. It is always good news when the kindergartner teacher says, "Your son reads and comprehends at a third grade level." All my other children in school are performing very well also. That is always good news.

Already beginning to work in my garden. We have planted peas, spinach, and kale. I am very much looking forward to this years crop of watermelons and cantaloupes (YUM!).

Purchased a newer vehicle after months of saving also have enough to sign up for a certification class for a new career I have been dying to take.

Also a Lady friend whom I adore said she would go have lunch with me on my birthday, so thats pretty good right?

today... I'm just very very very thankful for my Savior. I'm thankful for the blessings that have been poured out on me and my family. I don't believe in coincidence. I believe Heavenly Father places people where the need to be to help when necessary. Its always wonderful when they are willing to step in and help. I'm also grateful for the organization of the church. It has blessed us tremendously this past 7 days.

I prefer dumpster flowers. :)

This one made my day: My cousin just had a baby. She also has an 11 year old daughter with special needs. Sweet 11 year old wouldn't leave the hospital without the new baby! Dad had to carry her out. She was so excited to have a new sister. :)

Today, my husband and I took our 3 yr. old and 18 month old granddaughters to the park. Pushing them on the swings, helping them down the slides, and just being silly in general was pure heaven!

I finally baked a loaf of bread that is actually edible. Last week I got a craving for homemade bread and pulled out my moms old cookbook and tried to make some. The result was so dense and heavy and the crust was so hard that it was more suitable as a weapon than a food item. But I tried again today and produced bread that was actually you know soft and bread like and edible. Yay me.

I'm going to take this opportunity to brag...

I've been in the dumps lately because I've been having issues with my 2 boys. The older they got, the less they listen to me. BUT, I successfully trained 2 English Bulldogs and a Bichon (for the dog-lovers out there, you probably know how stubborn those breeds can get) to eat their food over their bowl...

Okay, why this is a big deal - I switched them out of the kibble to meat. Dogs would usually get very territorial with their meat and run off with it to some corner, getting meat gunk all over my floors. And they wouldn't even wait for the signal anymore to start eating - they get too crazy with it. But, after a lot of training and training and training, I finally got them to stay put and eat their food over their bowls so I wouldn't have gunk on the floors.

At least I still got some "body" to listen to me and... it's soooo fluffy I'm gonna die!

My teenaged daughter made a decision to put God 1st! She was invited to audition for a prestigious youth symphony in our area. She turned down the opportunity because they have rehearsals on Sunday, during the time we have our evening church service. She made the decision without any input from us. We may have let her skip evening service. She made a godlier decision than we would have. I learned a lot about faith, trust, obedience and honoring God.

My son got accepted to 4 of the 6 PhD programs to which he applied (and neither was his first choice, so it's all good). The schools are flying him all over to check them out before he makes his decision. Plus, not only are all of them are throwing money at him like there's no tomorrow, he'll have a limited or no work requirement, and summer support without work.

Of course, I am pleased as punch, but I'm ecstatic because he dropped out of college years ago, right before he should have graduated. I wanted to beat him senseless. After years of trying to get him to return to school, I gave up arguing and let him see for himself what the world was like when you don't have a degree or a trade.

A few years ago, he finally got the message, found a field he liked, and finished his bachelors (4.0) and now his masters (4.0). Yay! Doing the Proud Mommy Happy Dance!

I'm not feeling great right now but I know that I'm very blessed. I am blessed to live in a time and place where I can receive quality medical attention. I am blessed to have a wonderful husband and family to support me post surgery. I am blessed to have a beautiful child with my husband. I am blessed to know the gospel.
