Pick an actor - The Book of Mormon (A pointless diversion thread)

Beefche and I read Alma 44 last night and got to talking, because of Moroni's moxie, during about what actor we think could capture what we picture to be his presence and delivery (we're easily distracted). We soon got diverted into basically talking amongst ourselves about what actors we would get to play various people in a hypothetical Book of Mormon movie. And don't just think about looks, there is make-up for that and also artistic licence (if say a black actor would just be perfect for a role) also consider their range and screen presence. I figured I'd share the diversion with all y'all. There pretty much aren't any rules, name any actor living or dead, and if specify an age if they aren't living (current age will be assumed if they are living). We didn't get very far but I figured I'd share what we decided, oh and feel free to expand with things like director, screenplay writer, cinematographer and the like. What we came up with (our distraction was brief, even there I have ADHD):

Captain Moroni: Viggo Mortenson

Moroni's Guard: Dwayne Johnson

Zerahemnah: Vin Diesel

My own addition:

Abinidi: Alec Guinness (Older)

Lehi: the actor who originally played Dumbledore (yes, I know he's dead)

King Noah: Tim Curry

That's fine, so's Alec Guinness. BTW, I'm loving Tim Curry as King Noah.

Note: Feel free to provide an alternative actor if you think of someone you feel fits a role better.

Richard Harris

not sure where he'd go but I suggest Reb Brown for everything:lol:

Those Lamanite blacksmiths...make some pretty good helmets

I'd like to see Sean Astin in there somewhere. Maybe one of Nephi's younger brothers? Or Enos.

He'd be a good Enos.

Now, where to fit Matt Damon?

Come to think of it, though I suggested that Shemar Moore could be Ammon, I think a really awesome Ammon would be Jason Statham.

Nephi's faithful brother who doesn't get mentioned much, Sam?

How 'bout Sean Connery as King Benjamin. Can't you just hear him saying, "when ye are in the service of your fellow beings?" Oh yeah, so cool.

Captain Moroni: Viggo Mortenson

You can stop right there! I'm not completely familiar with all of the figures in the BoM, but I don't see how you can go wrong with Viggo in any role.

I'm not sure how we'll he'd pull off Abish or Sariah, but I must admit I've not seen him in drag .

Actually, that would work, but I was thinking mid 70s Connery as Captain Moroni.

Would certainly have done a lot more good for his career than Zardoz, and he really had the ideal presence for it then.

Now for the real question; where do you cast Johnny Depp?
