What do you guys think is the best starting point in the book of Mormon when a new person wants to begin reading. Also, what is everyone's favorite verses in Mormon? Any help would be great :)

I start where I always start a book, at the beginning.

Helamon is probably our house's favorite part. Can't imagine why.

((Boys! You will NOT launch each other out the window! I don't CARE if you put an extra deep pile of snow outside it! It's too compact. I'm not taking anyone to the ER today. All dislocations and breaks will be set at home. And you KNOW I'm not as gentle as the ER docs. Hey! How many times do I have to tell you? Do. Not. Ride. The. Dog. For the love of Mike!))

I like this question, I'm just starting to read, but the "and it came to pass" starting almost every verse drives me crazy, maybe i should start somewhere different then Nephi.

It might help to keep in mind that "And it came to pass that..." usually means one of two things in the Book of Mormon:

1. "After some time interval from what I just wrote about..."

2. "As a direct consequence of what I just wrote about..."

It's not just filler material or a weird speech impediment.

I looked at a German translation of the Book of Mormon many years ago, and noticed that they had replaced the phrase with a symbol. I guess that's one way around the repetitiveness of the phrase.

You realize that 'goodly' means rich... right? They were a wealthy family... not just in moral character.

yes, but when I read "goodly" I don't think of that meaning because Lehi and Sariah were good as well as blessed with worldly wealth. They taught their children about God.
