Pa Pa Posted May 27, 2015 Report Posted May 27, 2015 (edited) There is a line from a movie, the lady who said it (speaking of her Mother) "for better or worse she is the voice inside my head". So a question (seriously) who is the voice inside your head? Who drives you (living or dead) to be best that you can be? Mine is my dear Mother who passed away last year, God rest her soul. Also my Father who adopted me and my other siblings, when my bio-Father left my Mother and us leaving our family homeless. My last name used to be "Nation" now it is "Lee". Since the name "Lee", I vowed never to bring shame to that name, to the loving Father who gave it too me. God bless them both...they loved without condition. From both of them I learned kindness and how to be a Father and Grandfather. I miss them both! Edited May 27, 2015 by Pa Pa Maureen 1 Quote
David13 Posted May 27, 2015 Report Posted May 27, 2015 It varies from time to time. It may be my mother, usually, it may be a teacher or moral influence I once had; an older wiser man, the Holy Ghost, maybe God or Jesus, but seldom my father. In all, it is my conscience. Not my conscious which is my awareness of my existence and surroundings, but the morality, the ethics, the knowledge of right and wrong, the CTR that steers me.It could not be my father as he was moral except to one factor. But misinformed about guns and motorcycles.dc Quote
Palerider Posted May 27, 2015 Report Posted May 27, 2015 For me it's our General Authorities and my Mission President and I could go on Quote
Bini Posted May 27, 2015 Report Posted May 27, 2015 Hmm. I don't really have a voice that whispers to me inside my head. But whenever I'm in a pickle or need guidance, my husband, is always my first go-to-person. Otherwise, I just listen to my own intuition on stuff, like my gut. Quote
Crypto Posted May 27, 2015 Report Posted May 27, 2015 I talk to myself. If people could hear they'd think i'm crazy...well they may think that already Quote
Still_Small_Voice Posted May 27, 2015 Report Posted May 27, 2015 Generally I feel my conscience or the Holy Spirit whisper the scriptures to me on a lot of moral decisions. A lot from the Book of Proverbs and other books in the Bible and the Book of Mormon. The more one gets the word of God in their mind the more one will think about it. "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success." -- Joshua 1:8 Quote
Finrock Posted May 27, 2015 Report Posted May 27, 2015 (edited) If the ideas/words are good then the voice inside my head is God, no matter what medium God used to relay a message to me in the past. God uses people and other means to speak to us. Any "voice" that entices us to do good and/or to believe in Christ is from God. I purposefully reject the notion that the good idea/voice that I hear inside my head is just random or intuition. I purposefully and consciously have decided to believe that all good things are from God and to listen and obey whenever I am exposed to a good voice/thought/idea/notion/etc. -Finrock P.S. I just want to add that I have not mastered doing what I describe above. It is something that I believe and what I try to subscribe to in my life. I believe in general I ignore and miss many of the messages that God is sending my way each day because of blindness, pride, sin, etc. Yeah, I'm woefully imperfect! NightSG Posted May 27, 2015 Report Posted May 27, 2015 It's weird; I used to think I heard grandma's voice in my head, but on two separate occasions, two different people have clearly heard her when I thought it was just in my head. Neither one knew her when she was alive, but one asked if I had a mutual friend on speakerphone. (He was in the next room when it happened.) Until then I'd never realized that she sounded a lot like grandma. I also hear her occasionally during certain hymns, just to my left, when there's nothing but empty chairs between me and the wall. Vort Posted May 27, 2015 Report Posted May 27, 2015 Listen to your heart. Listen to the rain. Listen to the voices in your brain. Remember: Green is not a creative color. Quote
char713 Posted May 27, 2015 Report Posted May 27, 2015 The way I interpret the "voice in your head" idea is the person whom my brain quotes back to me the most. Affirmations, I guess we could call them, either positive or negative. Positive thoughts and memories, specific phrases that my brain refers back to when I need a boost or a moment of peace usually come from something my husband has said or done. Sometimes they are quotes from my favorite authors (C.S. Lewis most especially), or from my incredibly supportive and intuitive Aunt Lara. Perhaps this is why the middle names we have decided on for our future children have come from these people. Negative things usually spring from things my parents or a former YW leader/Bishop's wife said. I guess when you are stuck spending a lot of time around hyper-critical and opinionated people, some of those things can get buried pretty deep. Quote
Pa Pa Posted May 28, 2015 Author Report Posted May 28, 2015 Maybe I should have asked; who is the person that has inspired you to be the best person you can be? Meaning, Mom, Dad, brother, sister or friend. Quote
David13 Posted May 28, 2015 Report Posted May 28, 2015 It should be the same voice, at least at times. When we remember the words that were given to us to deal with a situation or something, then it is that person of great inspiration to us. My father was only a role model to me when I was quite young; in later life I had to adopt myself out to older wiser men who became inspiration or 'mentor' to me. And from whom I learned slogans, words of wisdom, concepts of faith, etc.At appropriate times those words come back to me in the same voice of that wiser man.But sometimes it's just the mother. What would the mother say or think or how would she approach this situation.dc Quote
