RooTheMormon Posted July 6, 2017 Report Posted July 6, 2017 I am a ballet dancer, and at my studio we have a very strict dress code: pink tights with a spaghetti strap leotard. If we do not follow dress code, we can not participate in performances. I was told that swimming, as well as other sports had an exception for dress code. Is this true? Quote
anatess2 Posted July 6, 2017 Report Posted July 6, 2017 (edited) Yes and No. It's not an "exception for dress code". Rather, it IS part of the dress code. There are certain cases where you are not expected to wear garments - going to the beach, for example. Participating in sports is another. Ballet is another. The thing is - you shouldn't think of ways that exempts you from the dress code. Rather, you should think of ways to keep your covenants in any situation you find yourself in including in a ballet studio. Edited July 6, 2017 by anatess2 SilentOne, Jane_Doe and Iggy 3 Quote

The "dress code" doesn't change just because you turned 18 regardless of the presence of the temple covenant to drive the dress code. Garments is the measuring stick for modesty. My boys wear undershirts and boxers under their clothes as their measuring stick. I made it that way so they won't have to go through clothing shock a few weeks before embarking on a mission. They don't need more stress than there already will be... and no, they don't wear undershirts and boxers under their swimpants at the beach. Edited July 6, 2017 by anatess2 Iggy 1 Quote

We do what we can to try to be modest in all settings. And that is really the thing to consider. THE SETTING. People get undressed in front of their doctors -- and it is not considered inappropriate to do so. In fact, it is considered necessary in many instances. You also really need to pray and talk to the bishop about things you're not certain about. For instance, it would be easy to argue "well people get naked in front of the camera all the time, that's just expected." Uhmmm... That doesn't really fly. Just do your best. Talk to your bishop about anything uncertain. But from your description, it sounds like the ballet outfit should be fine. Quote
