I am curious to see what all of you do for General Conference....do you have any family traditions??? where do you go to watch General Conference????

On saturday we usually watch it at home. I go to our meetinghouse to watch the Priesthood session. The Sisters from both wards usually feed us before the Priesthood session. We always provide a meal for the Sisters prior to the General relief Society Broadcast.

On Sunday we go to my Mother in law's home and watch Conference there.

We get to sleep in, then maybe go camping for the weekend. We do the same thing with Stake Conference and Ward Conference (unless we have speaking assignments at either).

I find it absolutely impossible to concentrate on Conference with kids running around. I prefer to read it at night when they're all asleep and I can really study what's written.

Its' the same with Stake Conference. Also, there's the price of even getting to Stake Conference in gas, etc...

As for Ward Conference, there's just no way on earth to sit through nearly three straight hours of a meeting with kids.

So, we have three weekends a year when we're "off". I'm thinking probably I'll be chided for this, eh?

We have tried to listen at home, but it doesn't register with the kids that it is a special time, so we have started going to the church. With so many people watching it at home, there is hardly anyone there and it's not the traffic nightmare it used to be, plus we have a lot of seats to choose from! Between sessions on Saturday, we go out to lunch. Sunday we try to eat something yummy at home between sessions. My husband says after priesthood session, the guys usually go out for ice cream. I found this out when he came home with it on his shirt.

I'm really excited for conference!

Which Church you go to? Ward conference has the same scheduled block as always. Sacrament, Sunday School, RS/Priesthood/YW-YM. In every Branch/Ward I have been in, the Stake Leaders take over and teach the classes. Loved that when I was in Primary, learned not only the lesson, but also other ways to present interesting lessons for the children!

Yeah, Ward Conference is pretty much the same. One hour sacrament, the kids go to class, we have a combined meeting with the adults.

Stake Conference is very frustrating with children because we get stuck in the metal chairs unless we're really early, but we don't really want to be there with them longer than 2 hours. This time I'm singing with the choir and I'll have a nice comfy seat. Ahhhhhhhhh ..... :D

I have just returned to the church and have been lucky enough to be able to attend conference in the Conference Center. This year I have volunteered to usher for conference.

congrats to you.....thats awesome:)

not sure we have to go into the building for 10am on Sunday -I remember my first General Conference it was I have to confess the most awful boring experience, it was 2 weeks after baptism, we were through in our Stake Conference which has the Worlds most uncomfy pews, and it went on for 7 hours without a break -when I confided to a Sister I was bored she said oh no you can't feel that way the spirit is so strong. I have never quite got over it lol

I think this year we will take the kids out for a meal on the Saturday at a place with a soft play centre and if weather is nice do a picnic in the park on the Sunday -the 9pm-11pm session will do at home

We usually go to the Stake Centre for one 2 hour session. If we go on Sunday evening it will be the Sunday Morning session live. If we go in the afternoon it will be a relayed version of the Saturday session. This time we are going to the evening one. We could do both but it's asking a bit much of OH who is not a member.

Even though I DVR it, I try to watch it live as well.

I have heard that some families dress in their Sunday best for it.

To each his own. We don't. The Lord knows my heart.

I try to listen very carefully to what is said, and to the Spirit. I try to have a notebook and pen handy, to write down my impressions while I listen, for those impressions are usually things the Lord wants me to take action on or research a bit more.

A few weeks later I will often go and review some of the talks (once they are posted).

I have some "favorites" - Eyring, Scott, Holland and Bednar.

I sorely miss President Hinckley. His countenance and love were so amazing to watch while he spoke.

I will be at the church on Sat morning to open it up and set the TV up, etc. The rest of conference will be at home on BYU-TV.

PH session is always preceded by a potluck, only the brethren. Chili, pizza, fatty foods, etc., stuff our wives wouldn't let us eat.

For years we have gotten together with other families to watch Sunday General Conference. Back before the DVR we would watch it on Saturday too but now we can watch Saturday in between and after Sunday conference.

We plan a breakfast before morning session, bagels, fruit and things like that. This year it is homemade chorizo and eggs with homemade tortillas. At the break we will have light sandwiches and after the afternoon session we will bbq.

Many years ago when the kids were very small I had five weekends free a year. Two for General Conference, two for Stake Conf and one for Ward Conf. Would always take Friday off and go on a three day weekend with the kids camping and fishing. Oh what a heathen I was back in those days. Oh what memories we have of those trips.

All is not learned in school or in church :)

I wish we had it on TV here... It would save us trying to keep our kids occupied and not too noisy in their 'fidget' time from 5pm-7pm...

Alas, we have to drive a full ten minutes down the road to sit in the chapel and watch it amongst the few other people who aren't at home pretending to listen to it on the net... ;)

It sounds like lots of you have some fun Conference 'traditions'. I think I'll have to start my own to bring out the 'specialness' of Conference Weekend in the future.

Yeah I watch at home now. Didn't growing up, because in California they don't show it on TV. So I curl up on the couch and promptly fall asleep just after the congregational hymn in the middle. Good thing they post the talks online rather quickly.

I think when my boys are older and if we still live close we will go down to SLC for priesthood. I too would like to start my own traditions once I get married again. Those will be special times.

This is more of a General Conf memory....2yrs ago during the sunday afternoon session we had a tornado warning. We were here at home, for some reason we did not go to Mother in laws home. Anyway...right towards the end of it all the power goes off...and I looked out the window and seen shingles flying off the roof of a neighbors house....and I yelled....everybody downstairs now...move it and don't ask....move it....we sustained very minor damage ourselves....we had to get new shingles on the roof.

Wow, that's quite the story. I've never had anything that exciting happen watching Conference. Of course, I'm more like Checker and asleep mid way through the first talk.:D I guess that's why I always watch it in my PJ's!!

I know the second sessions are usually hard for me to stay awake...unless there is bad weather in the area.....LOL!!!!!

I usually just go to the Sunday morning session in the chapel. The rest I wait to read in the Ensign or read on the 'net. I get too wiggly and fidgety to sit more than 2 hours at a stretch. I guess I'm still a kid at heart. ;)
