Extraterrestrials, visits, and UFO phenomena
Bookmeister replied to unixknight's topic in General Discussion
I've been looking at the night sky for more than 40 years. I've done it while "ufo flaps" (local sightings) were going on, and in places reputed to be where ufos hang out. Shucks, I've even lived in New Mexico (twice). I've never seen anything up there that I couldn't identify...and none of them were alien flying saucers. As for the Phoenix lights, they're very obviously flare shells used by the military during an exercise that was going on at that time and in that location. They look and act just like the ones I encountered when I was in the service. On the other hand, I do believe that there are other creatures in the universe, and there are scriptures that seem to support this. -
I actually read both books (Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged) about once a year. I appreciate the idea that individuals should be responsible for themselves, and that many truly productive people are dragging boatloads of "looters" and "hangers-on" around with them. My problem, though, is what comes across as Rand's complete lack of honest compassion for those people trapped in the cycles of loss and poverty.

Me guy. Me fix things. Me lift heavy things. Me hunt (or work) for food and things. Girl say, "this is my problem," me think, "How to fix". Girl no want "fix", want guy to listen. Girl want guy to be supportive. Me, like other guys, go into man cave to fix problems. Me not know girl no want fix. Me go lift a heavy thing now.

After surgery (the dreaded gastric bypass...LOL), it was necessary for me to eat as many as 6 tiny meals a day. On fast Sundays, what I did was to limit myself to the liquid food (slim-fast or carnation instant breakfast, etc) rather than eat any solid food. My fast offering was, of course, what two regular sized meals would have cost. Like everyone else, I believe that the intention, carried out with something that shows some self-discipline, is sufficient. Now, three months later, I can get by without dinner or breakfast before church without having any bad effects. Hope this helps.

My wife is a quilter (thank goodness, or I'd freeze on cold winter nights) and has been known to say that "she who dies with the most fabric wins"! She enjoys doing it so much, in fact, that every year she makes a quilt for the annual library fundraiser at the university where she works. So far, her quilts have brought in just about $6000 for the library. As for me, I've done a variety of things, but I really like doing graphite drawing (landscapes, people, etc). It may not be good, but it sure is fun...:)

I'm not especially surprised at the notion of hundreds of legal documents. Not only do we lawyers do our best to wipe out whole forests for paper, but the Prophet was apparently sued by every person within 500 miles of the church for a variety of real and perceived injuries (see, frivolous lawsuits aren't just a current phenomenon).

Mormon Times: All Dogs Go to Heaven?

Makes you wonder about all those ward summer barbeques, huh? And, by the way, there won't be any bad sax in the celestial kingdom. -
Okay, so after seeing the BANGS thread I have to ask...

Women with short are are wayyyyyyyyyyy sexier. -
My suggestion? Eat a normal sized breakfast and a regular lunch, and then skip dinner. I lost 43 pounds in just under 3 months. Oh, and don't cheat...:)

I'm just glad that I learned how to read and write before the appearance of the computer...this means that I'm not afraid to use an actual book...

Mormon Times: All Dogs Go to Heaven?
Bookmeister replied to Hemidakota's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
I guess I have no problem with the idea that a dog who loves me that much would enter the celestial kingdom. Besides which, how could there be a heaven without dogs? Or saxophones? -
Well, I could tell you the real truth.....but then I'd have to kill you.

Let's see...I'm on my mission and I'm told I have to spend Sunday mornings in any other church but my own????? I don't think so.

I think it's because of the vast extreme left/fascist/people who throw trash out their car windows conspiracy.

Anti-Mormon Protesters outside Temple in Twin Falls, Idaho (8-16)
Bookmeister replied to SSEiYah's topic in Mormon Videos
What I find especially interesting is that there are so many "groups" (for lack of a better word) that feel the need to save us from ourselves. The mere existence of the Church has stirred so many people to act against it, since the very beginning, and it continues to this day. I don't see people hanging around the new Jehovah's Witnessess building trying to change how they think, nor do I see protests against a new catholic church opening down the street. Fiannan has a good point...why aren't they trying to convert muslims? My belief, for whatever it's worth, is that the mere existence of the Church is so harmful to Satan that he will do anything, and take any steps, to lead people away from the truth. Very few other religious beliefs have seen so much violence, anger, hatred, and "anti" behavior (of course, there were the Crusades). Given the usual behavior of people, and Americans in particular, to just let most folks do their own thing, even if others think it's dumb or off the wall, what it is about our Church that seems to bring this conflictive behavior out into the open? I think the Adversary is behind it all. -
Does this mean that I have to give back the parts of the government I've already taken over?

Just two thoughts: 1. I thought there was a black hole at the center of our galaxy? 2. Coffee table? Hot Chocolate table? I thought it was a foot rest for the couch. -
