  1. Well, as far as physical attractiveness goes, i think facial hair is hot! My hubby has a fabulous short-cropped full beard. He is also a really great kisser! He is a wonderful father, and his kids absolutely adore him. So does his wife! I tell him everything. He is my best friend. I rarely hear him complain. He is so much smarter than i am, and he has a great sense of humor and keeps me laughing, especially through the hard times. He is so positive. Here are two great Ensign articles by James E. Faust for women and men to consider: LDS.org - Ensign Article - The Father Who Cares LDS.org - Ensign Article - Fathers, Mothers, Marriage
  2. Wow, Vort, point very well taken, and i think you're right. My husband always tells me that i'm a lot like Jane from Pride and Prejudice, but i never believed him until now. If the exposition is identifiable to an individual, then I agree with you. At the very least, it's sadly pathetic that anyone would expose his/her spouse to such public abuse. But assuming the whining is anonymous, I think that may be going a little far. Such unspecified complaining may allow the complainer to get some perspective on the issue and perhaps receive some input to help him/her see another side to it, maybe even how s/he has some fault in the matter. I also think you're right on with this statement.
  3. I wonder about that phrase "we believe all things." Anyone have some clarity for me? And how does one "hope all things?"
  4. I personally would have a hard time even wanting to enter a new relationship if my husband ever passed away. I mean, i'm sealed to him for eternity. I would consider myself still married.
  5. And sometimes there are people confused about their gender. But, anyway, i personally really appreciate Prisonchaplain (hope he doesn't mind being singled out). He's not constantly stating he is not LDS, but when it is a question obviously looking for the LDS perspective, he always finds a way to state he is not LDS and then give his take on it. I've seen him do this a few times at least, and he doesn't seem to mind it or get irritated that he constantly has to do it. Or... maybe i should let him speak for himself on that. It would be nice if more non-LDS would follow his example.
  6. Hello! I'm sure you don't know me, but welcome back anyway!! :)
  7. Welcome to the site! Glad to have ya! :)
  8. Exactly, couldn't agree more. Very classic example. As the man said in his article: Hate. The opposition must be shamed, vilified, and demonized. That is exactly how anyone with a pro-sin tendency likes to paint those against sin.
  9. Hemi, you have got to be one of the coolest people on the planet!! These are awesome! :)
  10. Misshalfway, you are one of the sweetest people on this site! I love you! I have never seen you go on a man bashing tirade, but i have seen a few men who are a little too sensitive on the subject.
  11. It is a great question. It brings to mind Moroni 7. Maybe there are some answers there? Moroni 7:12-17 "Wherefore, all things which are good cometh of God; and that which is evil cometh of the devil; for the devil is an enemy unto God, and fighteth against him continually, and inviteth and enticeth to sin, and to do that which is evil continually. But behold, that which is of God invitheth and enticeth to do good continually; wherefore, every thing which inviteth and enticeth to do good, and to love God, and to serve him, is inspired of God. Wherefore, take heed, my beloved brethren, that ye do not judge that which is evil to be of God, or that which is good and of God to be of the devil. For behold, my brethren, it is given unto you to judge, that ye may know good from evil; and the way to judge is as plain, that ye may know with a perfect knowledge, as the daylight is from the dark night. For behold, the Spirit of Christ is given to every man, that he may know good from evil; wherefore, I show unto you the way to judge; for every thing which inviteth to do good, and to persuade to believe in Christ, is sent forth by the power and gift of Christ; wherefore ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of God. But whatsoever thing persuadeth men to do evil, and believe not in Christ, and deny him, and serve not God, then ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of the devil; for after this manner doth the devil work, for he persuadeth no man to do good, no, not one; neither do his angels; neither do they who subject themselves unto him." Sorry, that was long, but i really could have kept going. The whole chapter is great!
  12. I can vouch for this because i am married to a man who had to endure this type of man bashing from his mother. He has really struggled to come to terms with his manhood. I mean REALLY struggled. He has told me some of these struggles and believe me you don't want to know. I grew up in a male dominant home, and i LOVE men. I have come to appreciate men even more as my hubby and i have studied about true manhood. He has come a long way and will even stand up to his mom now when she starts her man bashing. All he has to do is mention that it was a woman (namely, her mother) who caused the greater part of her problems in life through abuse. Shuts her right up. It's great!
  13. General Conference is coming up!! Am i the only one excited??
  14. That is such great news! Congratulations!
  15. Anyway, I read something in my hubby's philosophy book that goes right along with this. I wish i could type up the whole section, but it is rather long, so i'll just type up a few paragraphs (still long but hopefully you can bear with me). Introductory statement: Socrates equated virtue with knowledge and vice with ignorance. From the book: Philosophy: History and Problems by Samuel Stumpf "Because man has a desire for happiness, he chooses his acts with the hope that they will bring him happiness. Which acts, or what behavior, will produce happiness? Socrates knew that some forms of behavior appear to produce happiness, but in reality do not. For this reason, men frequently choose an act that may in itself be questionable but that they, nevertheless, think will bring them happiness. A thief may know that stealing as such is wrong, but he steals in the hope that it will bring him happiness. Similarly, men pursue power, physical pleasure, and property, which are the symbols of success and happiness, confusing these with the true ground of happiness. The equating of vice with ignorance is not so contrary to common sense after all, for the ignorance Socrates speaks of refers not to the act itself but to its ability to produce happiness. It is ignorance about one's soul, about what it takes to 'make the soul as good as possible.' Wrongdoing is, therefore, a consequence of an inaccurate estimate of modes of behavior. It is the inaccurate expectation that certain kinds of things or pleasures will produce happiness. Wrongdoing, then, is the product of ignorance simply because it is done with the hope that it will do what it cannot do. Ignorance consists in not knowing that certain behavior cannot produce happiness. It takes a true knowledge of human nature to know what it requires to be happy. It also takes a true knowledge of things and types of behavior to know whether they can fulfill the human requirements for happiness. And it requires knowledge to be able to distinguish between what appears to give happiness and what really does." I understand this to mean that one can "know" they are doing wrong, going against God, but still be "ignorant" that such CANNOT produce happiness. The 1/3 knew they were going against God's will. It was very deliberate on their part. They had lived in God's presence and knew His will. They somehow believed that they would win the war despite that. The 5 foolish virgins (as the virgins represent membership in the church) have been taught the commandements. They know what is right. They know they are not doing all they should be doing. But they believe that they can find happiness where it does not exist. Choice is so important! That's what the Plan was. God wants us to choose to love Him and return to Him, but He will not force it upon us. He wants us to choose it for ourselves.
  16. I think it is so sad that you do not care, because God cares. You are His child, His son! He loves you with a love that is deeper than any mortal can love, and He wants you back. He wants you to be able to return to Him. He wants you to come home! I realize that was off topic but felt it needed to be said. :)
  17. I think he was making the point that you probably have not and therefore are not "past saving."
  18. I think my birthday #1 song was "Thank Heaven for Little Girls" because i was the first girl born after 5 boys.
  19. I think you are probably right. Although as some here have suggested, there are probably always going to be those who don't really care if they are evil or not.
  20. That's what Satan wants you to think anyway.
