Welcome Douglas. Hope you enjoy ldstalk. We are glad to have you.

We know that although Joseph Smith only had a third grade education, he was very well read and studied much and encouraged the saints to study and broaden their understandings in all areas, not just the scriptures. One correction: Joseph Smith tells us in his short history in the BoM that he did not join any church, although he did have interest in the Methodist Church for a time and studied it. He was told to join no Church in the first vision and did not join any church until he organized the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 6, 1830. Because Joseph had no other text to help him while he was translating the BoM he had to use the only language he knew, and I am sure that at times it was hard to come up with the proper word for every phrase or word of a language totally unknown to him. We know that there are people that have died since Christ's resurrection that have been resurrected, because our prophets have told us they have been, probably not a large number but some. We know that even Cain will be above Satan in the here after, for the mere fact that he will have a body and Satan will not. We know that the evil spirits were so desperate for a body when Christ was about to cast them out, that they begged him to allow them to possess the bodies of the swine, and he did and the swine ran off of the cliff and they were killed. If we want to be like our Father in Heaven and Christ, we must have a body to perfect ourselves. We know that Christ gave a every individual that has ever lived upon the earth receives the gift of being resurrected with a body and that that was one of the main reasons in coming to earth, was to gain our body of flesh and bone. We know these things through scripture, our prophets and the teachings by them both. These bodies have to be a very important part of our post earth life. Christ did eat with His Apostles after His resurrection. Did he need the nourishment? Probably not! But, He showed that it was possible to eat with a resurrected body. We have so much to learn yet. Shelly, If he is hurting you and the kids, physically and/or emotionally, get out. If he is beating you, he soon will be the kids if he isn't already. If he is doing that, I don't think it will ever change. I don't know how old your kids are, but how is all of this effecting them? You have them to think about too, and I know you are. If you are afraid to move or do anything for fear of upsetting him, it is time to think about leaving. No man has the right to be a dictator over his family and especially to abuse them. I suggest you figure how serious the situation is that you and the kids are in and then go have a talk with your Bishop and go from there. Don't stay until you are crushed by him though. I am speaking from sad experience and know what it is like to be in your shoes. I stayed wayyyyyyyyy too long. Only you know what you can handle and just how bad the situation is. Josie

I am with Strawberry Fields on this. Snow, was kind enough to try to apologize and it seems that a lot of fun has been poked at him. We complain about someone and they try to make amends and we poke fun. None of us are perfect, maybe we should take a look in our own closets? Josie

SusieSA, No, I have never personally been related to anyone who has taken their life. I have known people who have done so and have attempted to do so. Sometimes there are warning signs and sometimes there not, that the untrained individual know how to pick out atleast. Sgallan, As Ben said, "anyone who takes their own life is not a healthy person." As to how healthy they are, mentally, spiritually, or physically, I am glad that Heavenly Father will be that judge and not me. Sometimes I tend to judge people too harshly and am thankful that it is not in my hands or anyone else's except for Our Father in Heaven. Josie
-
Pam, I understand what you are saying. It is easy to look back and think if only I might have done this, but we are our own worst judge. That is one reason that I am so thankful for a loving Father in Heaven, that will take into consideration many things that we do not even take notice of, when it comes to ourselves. Such as the true feelings of our heart and the person we really are. You don't know the man's circumstances and cannot blame yourself for what he did. Only he and the Lord know what was behind it. But, we also know that someone that takes their own life has to be very sick and the Lord alone will judge how much he is to blame for his actions. We all need to be more aware of others around us and when someone gets snippy or throws a scowl our way, if we can just smile or be polite, maybe it will brighten their day too. We never know how much our smile may bless someone else's life or how devastating our scowl might be to them. A smile or kind word can be a simple and quiet form of charity to our neighbor in ways that we could never imagine, unless we were possessed of the wisdom of God. Josie

Was The True Gospel Restored By Joseph Smith (acts 3: 19-21)
Josie replied to darrel's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
It is gone. Don't worry about it. Besides, it was not posted hoping anyone would read it or anything else. Several were asking for information. The information was there if anyone wanted it. But now it is gone. So, no one has to be concerned about it any longer. -
Good to hear from you Outshined and thank you for what you are doing for all of us. No thanks can ever be enough to those over there making it safe for us at home.

I think what Susie is saying is, that it is what makes us who we are inside that got us through the past and will get us through the future. It is our character, our fortitude, our belief, our commitment to God or whatever we are committed too, and everything else that goes into making each of us who we are, that will get us through the future.

I apologize, I was told this morning at Church that he was LDS, I should have checked before making the comments I did. But, regardless of what Church it is, or what family, or everything else that a person is connected with, our actions have far reaching effects, regardless of who we are.
-
I think it is really sad that this man has done these things that not only brings disgrace to him and his family, but to a Church and a nation because of his actions. Being LDS, I think we are under the microscope so to speak as much or more than most. Our actions, good or bad, speak volumes directly upon the Church in other people's eyes and in this case, our nation too. Our actions have such far reaching effects that we probably do not really understand all that happens as a direct or indirect result of our actions many times.
-
I feel most at home when family and friends are around, good food, good conversation, and an outpouring of love between us. Being together as a family or good friends is the best comfort I find, next to being with my Father in Heaven.

Annabelli, Interesting and thought provoking question, for each of us, I would hope. I would hope that I am the one steering my ship, with Christ and the Holy Ghost there to help my navigate the troubled waters of this earth life. However, I am thankful to know that even when I do not listen well, they can steer me back to the right direction and path, if I am willing to allow them to do that. They are right there with all the maps and directions, we just have to listen.

LOL, Pale, you know I know what you are looking for, so I won't spoil the fun. We accused a mutual friend of it for long enough. Wonder what ever happened to him?

Hmmmmm, maybe I should have said that to me, the Church is the ultimate authority and I think the Church takes great care in the explanations they post on that site. I have great confidence in the explanations given on that site.

Looking at LDS.org under Atonement, this is what we read: As descendants of Adam and Eve, all people inherit the effects of the Fall. In our fallen state, we are subject to opposition and temptation. When we give in to temptation, we are alienated from God, and if we continue in sin, we experience spiritual death, being separated from His presence. We are all subject to temporal death, which is the death of the physical body (see Alma 42:6-9; D&C 29:41–42). The only way for us to be saved is for someone else to rescue us. We need someone who can satisfy the demands of justice—standing in our place to assume the burden of the Fall and to pay the price for our sins. Jesus Christ has always been the only one capable of making such a sacrifice. From before the Creation of the earth, the Savior has been our only hope for "peace in this world, and eternal life in the world to come" (D&C 59:23). Only He had the power to lay down His life and take it up again. From His mortal mother, Mary, He inherited the ability to die. From His immortal Father, He inherited the power to overcome death. He declared, "As the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself" (John 5:26). Only He could redeem us from our sins. God the Father gave Him this power (see Helaman 5:11). The Savior was able to receive this power and carry out the Atonement because He kept Himself free from sin: "He suffered temptations but gave no heed unto them" (D&C 20:22). Having lived a perfect, sinless life, He was free from the demands of justice. Because He had the power of redemption and because He had no debt to justice, he could pay the debt for those who repent. Jesus's atoning sacrifice took place in the Garden of Gethsemane and on the cross at Calvary. In Gethsemane He submitted to the will of the Father and began to take upon Himself the sins of all people. He has revealed some of what He experienced as He paid the price for our sins: "I, God, have suffered these things for all, that they might not suffer if they would repent; "But if they would not repent they must suffer even as I; "Which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit—and would that I might not drink the bitter cup, and shrink— "Nevertheless, glory be to the Father, and I partook and finished my preparations unto the children of men" (D&C 19:16–19; see also Luke 22:44; Mosiah 3:7). The Savior continued to suffer for our sins when He allowed Himself to be crucified—"lifted up upon the cross and slain for the sins of the world" (1 Nephi 11:33). On the cross, He allowed Himself to die. His body was then laid in a tomb until He was resurrected and became "the firstfruits of them that slept" (1 Corinthians 15:20). Through His death and Resurrection, He overcame physical death for us all. Jesus Christ redeems all people from the effects of the Fall. All people who have ever lived on the earth and who ever will live on the earth will be resurrected and brought back into the presence of God to be judged (see 2 Nephi 2:5–10; Helaman 14:15–17). Through the Savior's gift of mercy and redeeming grace, we will all receive the gift of immortality and live forever in glorified, resurrected bodies. Although we are redeemed unconditionally from the universal effects of the Fall, we are accountable for our own sins. But we can be forgiven and cleansed from the stain of sin if we "apply the atoning blood of Christ" (Mosiah 4:2). We must exercise faith in Jesus Christ, repent, be baptized for the remission of sins, and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. See also Baptism; Death, Physical; Death, Spiritual; Eternal Life; Faith; Fall; Forgiveness; God the Father; Gospel; Justice; Kingdoms of Glory; Mercy; Ordinances; Plan of Salvation; Repentance; Resurrection; Salvation —See True to the Faith (2004), 14–21 Is this not the ultimate authority?

No info on Church website yet Pale. I have wondered about them too.

Jarodb, You will be welcome in any LDS Church you walk into. Go to the one closest too you. Take your children and wife and return to Church. If you like, go to lds.org and there will be a place you can put in your address and it will tell you where you are suppose to go to church and who your Bishop is. It will atleast give you the address and phone number for the Church. Call the number on Sunday morning or some other time you think the Bishop might be there, ask for the Bishop and tell him you want to bring your family back to church. He will take care of the rest and walk you back with love and understanding. The Church is a church of love and faith. There is a place for all and remember, the Lord gave us repentance and His Atonement. There is always a way back to the Lord. The Lord will be so pleased. Go to church Sunday morning and go in peace. The times for your meetings will also be posted on that site. Josie

Jilly Bean, When you read it is not at all "Free". You sign up for their plan and pay $99.00 a month for your shipment of food storage and after 12 months of shipments you have a one year's supply for one person. If you refer 5 people to the site in a single month and they sign up for the plan, you get that month of food free. Or atleast that is the way I understand it. I assume you also have to pay shipping, could not find if it was included or not.

Elphaba, You are fine. No apologies necessary. We all have our opinion and should be entitled to express them within the rules of the site.I understand what you are saying and I agree that we have to be careful of who's word we take for what. We each need to investigate things out for ourselves and come to our own conclusions based on what is best for us and our families. I had googled "sanctuary cities" for two reasons. 1) To find out more about what they are, and 2) To see how wide spread the problem (atleast they are a problem to me) was. I could not believe that there were that many places that fell into that category. I have investigated the problem further on unrelated sites and find out that it is very wide spread and I sincerely believe that it is not good for our Country. Josie
-
I was mainly referring to the number of cities and areas or states that are allowing this. That should be allarming to any of us, I would think. OJJPAC: Ohio Jobs and Justice PAC. You can find information about them online. I am not advocating any group, only looking at how many cities are actually calling themselves a sanctuary city and giving safe haven to many people that are criminals and wreaking havoc in our country. Not saying that all of them are, but many are.
-
Take alook at this website if you don't think sanctuary cities are a problem or wide spread in the U. S. http://www.ojjpac.org/sanctuary.asp

I say go to it, Romney. I agree totally.

Welcome Steve, You will find alot of good people here and surely make some great friends. This is probably one of the longest existing lds sites not owned by the Church that there is, of its kind. It is a great place to come and there are good people here. Josie
