Bumping thread to see if there's an update. lost87, how are you doing?
-
Well, let's see, the 10 commandments include "taking the name of God in vain", which is frequently defined as promising to obey and follow Him, then willfully not doing so, and "bearing false witness", which I would define in this context as making promises you aren't going to keep or breaking promises you've made. I really think you're over-simplifying. BTW, how exactly does willfully disobeying God in favor of your own tastes and breaking covenants with Him in the process qualify as "living a good life"? Wouldn't honesty and obedience to God be necessary for that?

It was my understanding that written Hebrew does not use vowels, but I could be wrong.
-
It's not a question of clothes, Soul Seeker, it's a question of honoring one's promises to God and one's willingness to obey Him, and the clothing question can very well represent whether you're willing to submit your will to God's or whether you stubbornly insist on your own way regardless of your covenants or His stated wishes.

No offense intended, but CFR, please?

Why does HF allow good things to transgressors?
Seanette replied to astral's topic in General Discussion
I wish I knew what to say. It might well be the case that you're being led astray by the Adversary doing all this for you and trying to paint it as a reward for how you're currently living your life or as a way to convince you you don't need to obey God. I don't know for certain. I strongly advise prayer (with fasting if need be). If you have a Temple recommend, I suggest going. If you don't and you live near a Temple, I would think it would still be helpful to go and walk around the grounds and pray and meditate. Helps me. -
Hopefully, when He judges by our hearts, He'll make allowances for WANTING to do better and falling short. I'm hoping that the desire to overcome bad habits is credited against the habits not yet overcome.

Are there contradictions in the Mormon writings?
Seanette replied to aj4u's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Frankly, pam, I'm inclined toward your POV. (Hoping we're simply exhibiting the "burned too many times" reaction.) -
My husband says he doesn't have to worry, I cover that by worrying enough for both of us.

You're a prophet or an apostle? -
In defiance of God's explicit command to engage in missionary work?

That wasn't the topic of the message to which I was actually replying. Ever hear of thread drift? How in the world do you think the Bible came to be, anyway? Yep, prophets. Going to rule out Jonah because Nineveh wasn't destroyed? Tell me where in the Bible God states that he will no longer speak to His children on earth, please. Also, why would He bother to warn us about false prophets instead of just stating there would be no further prophets, unless there were to be TRUE prophets? -
I've never been THAT mad at Him. Mostly along the lines of "Give me a break already! Why do You keep dumping on ME instead of spreading out the problems to some of the super-golden perfect types who just sail smoothly through life? Can't You at least let me have one crisis at a time instead of piling several on at once? Was I THAT big a screwup in the pre-mortal life? I'm really having a hard time believing You love me!"

Thanks. I had thought what I said was a responsive answer to the question asked (it certainly made a logical connection in my head). Nice to know I'm not losing what grip I have. Gorgeous bird in the avatar, BTW. Would anyone gripe about starting a pet thread in General? -
I've put in "prayers" that basically amounted to chewing God out for whatever was troubling me at the time. Didn't get hit by lightning. :) I did, of course, come back and be much nicer once I calmed down enough to be rational, much as I would with a family member who was physically present I'd had some problem with.

Uh, it's not clear how discussion of continuing revelation fits into "evolution of prophecy"? -

As an average member who is not a scholar, it means to me that the Lord grants us more light and knowledge "line upon line, precept upon precept" as we're ready for it. This can mean that He changes His instructions to us to fit our changing circumstances and readiness to move forward. To me, that's the greatest blessing of having prophets on the earth: when the Lord decides we're ready to take the next step (such as by lifting the priesthood restriction), He has His spokesman in place to tell, "Ok, it's time for _____" and have that spokesman pass the Lord's will on to those who choose to follow God. -
I thought it was this week, not next! Must have misread the date somehow. Setting alarm on my PDA now to make it next week!

I've heard somewhere that if a candidate for baptism has had a sex change that he/she cannot be baptized, and if a member has this done, he/she will be excommunicated with no chance for rebaptism. Is that true?

Darn it! I missed the whole thing (I'm on Pacific time in theory, but since my husband works swing shift, we're in our own little time zone, and by the time I got onto the forum and saw this, it was already after 6pm my time). Sorry, eternal. I wanted to show up.

Is this kind of thread drift normal around here? :)

Do we know what time for the party yet? I'll bring cyber-cupcakes.

I think I saw him at the Temple once - in a white coverall with his name on it and carrying tools.
