  1. Here is the way I look at it. For those of you who have children or have taken care of young ones, what would you want to do for your children? Perhaps the most common answer people give is they would want to give them everything and they would even given their own life to see them more happy than they were in their life. They would want more for them than they had them self. Their children are their most prized possession. They would do everything they could possibly do to make this possible. If a God had everything and we were his children, would he not want us to become like him? If I were a God, that's what I would want. That's just my two cents.
  2. You guys don't think 911 is a bit drastic?
  3. Is there anyone in person you would be comfortable talking to this about? Talking to someone on the net isn't the same as talking to someone in person. I'd say you need someone you're close to and can be open with. Only you would know who that is though.
  4. I'd say China and Japan have done a great job of replenishing the Earth. Japan has like no room at all for all their people. China has over 1 billion people. When it comes to replenishing, they don't mess around.
  5. No. I'm not kidding. That was really hard to do. It wasn't nearly as bad the first 2 days but the 3rd day was horrible. I could have swore that I saw on the news a man surviving without food or water for 9 days. This was years ago. His car had gone off the road and he had multiple broken bones. When they found him, he was barely alive. I tried searching google to see if I could find any links but found nothing. So no idea what's the story with that. I'm not sure what the actual amount is a person can go without food or water. Apparently this guy never eats or drinks. I have a hard time believing it though. Indian man survives without food and water, baffles doctors Xenophilia (True Strange Stuff)
  6. I remember when I was religious, I fasted 3 days straight without food or water. This was during a time period when I was walking pretty much straight all day long every day. I usually walked 10 to 20 miles every single day. That was how I spent my time. Well I decided to fast 3 days straight and continue my regular walking. That wasn't a good idea but some how I managed to do it without dying. Looking back, I don't think I realized how possible that was. I didn't realize how bad it was for me to go this long without food or water and while doing such amounts of exercise. I remember on the third day, the only thing I could think about was food. I remember the clock counting down before I'd let myself eat something. Every single minute seemed like 10. I did do it though and I'm glad I did. I didn't get any answers to my fasting but I did learn a lot of confidence from doing it. After I did this, I had a pain in my chest that didn't go away for an entire year. It's not something I ever want to do again. If someone wants to fast, I'd say stick to the 24 hour period and no more.
  7. In my personal opinion, masturbation isn't bad and is actually a good thing in many ways and can actually help one avoid a lot of problems but I realize some religions find it wrong. I think all things should be done in moderation. Do what you think is right though. If not masturbating is something you really want to do, then I would recommend something like the lds church's programs for addiction. It wouldn't cost you anything. I have a brother who goes to one of these. He feels they help him. They may have some ideas to help you through this. Other than that, it seems like you're already trying to do a lot of things to help you stop. Everyone's body is different. The urge to do this isn't the same for everyone. As for going on a mission, chances are you'll still be able to go. I can't imagine there are no missionaries who do this or who don't at least give in and do it sometimes. I would think what they would be more concerned with is that you're trying. If you do occasionally give in, don't beat yourself up over it. I've read of more than one incidence where a person was suffering from guilt because they were having difficulty with masturbation. They couldn't live themselves for doing this. They just felt too ashamed. It then ended with the individual taking their own life. I'm not saying this is going to happen to you but I'd prefer you not to go through so much guilt. Just make sure it's because you personally feel it the right choice. I hope you find a way through this. Best of luck.
  8. I usually say the least advice is the best advice. The reason I say this is because someone telling you the "right course", which is usually just their opinion, may end up causing more harm than good and some "help" isn't help at all. It can especially cause harm if they're not careful in how they offer assistance. I have a bisexual niece. It created a lot of problems between her mother and her. The whole subject is very difficult because it's such a controversial subject. It's not the same as just asking what should I do to fix my car. I don't even honestly know if you can make those feelings go away. I do know I never judged my niece or thought any less of her. I would have accepted her no matter her choice. It wasn't mine to make and I wasn't going to try to tell her to be one way or the other. I honestly don't know the "right" choice when it comes to this or if there even is one. In my opinion, the best thing family can really do for you is not so much offer advice but just be supportive of you. A good listener is a lot better than a person that never ceases to give advice. That is my opinion. Who is the person you're most comfortable with and open with in your life? If it's a family member, then that would be even better. From what you've said, you don't have a relationship with your mother and your father doesn't believe in the lds faith? How is your relationship with your sister? Would you be comfortable talking with her about it? If your father knows your a member and you're only 15 years old, it means he has to be at least accepting of views that are not the same as his. I say that because you wouldn't have been able to be baptized with out his consent. If you're close to him, you could try talking to him and ask him to help you with your situation. Even though his views may not be the same as yours, it doesn't me he won't be supportive for you. The important thing is you decide what you feel is right. He doesn't even have to speak and it may be better if he doesn't and simply listens to you. In my opinion, you don't need someone to tell you what you should do. You need someone to be supportive of you while you go through this because I don't believe there is a easy way to "fix" this. I honestly don't believe anyone is going to have a "here do this" to fix it type answer. I understand you want to get rid of those feelings and I hope you can. If you can't then try not to let it get you down. They may go away later. Either way, I wish you the best.
  9. Wait what? People get suits and dresses with a baptism? I never got one. I so jealous .
  10. I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure if you've had sex, you can not go on a mission. Ever since they raised the bar, I don't believe they allow members to serve missions if they have had premarital relations. Good luck with that if they do though.
  11. The girl with the long hair advertising the "I can't, I'm Mormon" shirt is perhaps one of the hottest girls I have ever seen in my entire life. She should be a model if she isn't already one.
  12. Let me explan to you why I can apply this principle to both situations. In one situation you have God telling someone they need to pay tithing even if they don't have the money. In another situation you have God telling people to fast but only if they're healthy. That doesn't make sense to me. Why not say that the person should only pay tithing if they're healthy financially? Now if God is indeed the one that gives them the money to fix their situation with the tithing, then would it not make sense for him to do the same exact thing with the fasting? I'm saying the rules are changed in the two situations. That to me is a double standard. If someone doesn't have enough money to pay tithing, what happens? From what you're telling me, the church gives them the money so they can give it back to the church. Then the church considers them a full tithe payer. In reality, the person hasn't actually lost anything at all. It was only to teach them the principle of paying tithing. So how is this any different than just not paying tithing to begin with and saying you would if you could? Have you ever seen the movie Lilo and Stitch? The little girl wants to buy a puppy (Stitch). She doesn't have the 1 dollar it takes to buy Stitch. So what happens? The older sister gives her the 1 dollar to pay for the puppy. The little girl just wanted to say she is the one that bought it. So the older sister provided a way for her to do so. You're telling me that God provides a way for people to complete a commandment in one situation but in another he says they don't have to or that he can't.
  13. So you're saying the church tells everyone to pay their tithing no matter their circumstances and if they don't have enough money to survive, the church will take care of it? If the church helps people out after paying tithing, then I am fine with someone wanting to pay tithing. Either way, it is not my choice to make. At least he would not be losing his home. I still think it's a double standard to apply that to tithing and not to fasting though.
  14. I find the whole belief of tithe no matter your circumstances, no matter how difficult it may be to pay your bills to be a little contradictory. How many people have you known who said this to people fasting? Fast no matter your health conditions and you will be ok. That is surely not the case and I don't believe it was meant to be with tithing either. Do what you can. If you say in your heart that you would pay tithing if you could, then I believe that is all that should be expected of you. When you can pay tithe, then pay tithe by all means but don't lose your home because of it and don't lose your life fasting because you have health problems. THE BOOK OF MOSIAH CHAPTER 4 24 And again, I say unto the poor, ye who have not and yet have sufficient, that ye remain from day to day; I mean all you who deny the beggar, because ye have not; I would that ye say in your hearts that: I give not because I have not, but if I had I would give. 25 And now, if ye say this in your hearts ye remain guiltless, otherwise ye are condemned; and your condemnation is just for ye covet that which ye have not received.
  15. If I were you, I'd try to find a forum that consists of lots of faiths. That way you don't have to look for a forum for each faith. This board consists mainly of lds so that is really only going to help you with one faith. Then again, you could always just take the responses from here and pretend you got the answers from various faiths.
  16. It's not supported by the lds faith at the moment. However, the lds faith believes polygamy will be practiced in the Celestial Kingdom. The lds faith just believes it's wrong to practice polygamy on Earth at the present time. There is a man I know and he went to a ward I used to attend. Before I met the man he had a wife he was sealed to and she died. He later remarried and was sealed to his second wife as well. I am not 100% sure all the details on what enables a man to marry a second person in the temple after they are already sealed. I know they can if their wife dies. If a man simply divorces his wife though she is still sealed to him in the temple unless they have the sealing canceled. Now can a man just go around getting sealed to a lot of women without marrying them? I have no idea. Right now my sister went through a divorce but is still sealed to her ex husband. Her new husband is still sealed to his ex wife. My sisters ex husband also has a new child with his new wife. I have no idea how that is supposed to work. It's not something I really tend to think about. Hopefully that helps you get a better understanding.
  17. A wise man once said "It's never too late to procrastinate"
  18. It is not my intention to attack people who like the other books in the series or even the author. Not everyone agrees on books. I can accept that. Not everyone agrees on art either. I don't like modern art at all and to be honest I don't consider really any of it art at all. Have any you been to Washington D.C. and seen those large red steel bars hanging together? Here is a link to a picture of it. http://www.dmbusinessdaily.com/dsm/dsmarts/images/sculpture-t8.jpg That is modern art. It's kind of like someone telling me they like the look of that thing when they tell me they like the additional books in Ender's Game. I'm not going to criticize them for it but there is no way I can ever understand how they would like it. I guess it just blows my mind that anyone likes it especially the author. Oh well. To each their own. Hopefully no one is offended by what I wrote.
  19. I found out he was LDS after I got mid way through Ender's Game. He's still a bad writer. Anyone who writes about pigs becoming trees or little girls tracing wood grain lines and thinks to themselves "YA THIS IS GREAT" is retarded. He was good when writing Ender's Game but I can't and don't even want to imagine what the other 9 books in the series are like. I think if I read them all I'd probably commit suicide. That is how bad I would expect it to be. The man has a talent for writing bad books. I have only read 3 of his books and they were the first 3 in the Ender's Game series. Maybe the first book of every series he writes is fantastic and maybe every one after that is absolutely horrible. Thankfully, I'll never have to find out because I'm never going to read anything ever again with his name unless I want to inflict pain on myself.
  20. Good things happen when you don't pray at all. You could ask the same question of why do good things happen when I pray to God? It would help if you knew what these good things were though. You can't prove one way or the other. If believing in Mary is something which he believes in and which makes him feel better, then perhaps he notices good things more when he prays. If you're looking for good things to happen, chances are you're going to find them. I wouldn't dispute with him whether or not Mary is the cause of it and I would never tell him he's wrong in his beliefs. Maybe you could ask him more about why he believes as he does. You could even tell him why you believe as you do. What do you believe in regards to his statement? Do you believe it's just a coincidence good things happen to him or do you believe it's really God helping him instead of Mary? I would give him a copy of the Book of Mormon like you planed and see what he thinks of it. Remember, there is no harm in simply saying you don't know the answer to something. How do you explain Michael Jackson's face being in a cloud or in a reflection on a car? Is there some divine meaning behind it or is it just a coincidence that something happens to be in a vaguely similar shape to something a person recognizes? There are no actual photos of Mary to go by. Was this something divine or was there another explanation involved? People see what they want to see and then they imply meaning to it. I would just give him the Book of Mormon and see how he feels after praying about whether or not it's the word of God. Other than that, I'm really not sure.
  21. Wait wait wait, you read the books Speaker for the Dead and Xenocide and you actually liked them?! HOW?! I don't see how it is honestly possible. We are talking about the same books right? The one where pigs get eviscerated with a tree planted in them? The one where a little girl traces wood grain lines for page after page after page? Please explain to me how you liked it? I honestly can't see how it is possible if someone who has read it. I can understand liking Ender's Game but that's about it. I haven't read any other books by Orson Scott other than those 3.
  22. I had the pleasure of reading a book titled "Ender's Game". In my opinion, the book was great and I couldn't seem to put it down till I finished it. The book takes place some 70 years after a first war with an insect like alien race. The humans barely won. Now the government takes children from near birth to train them to be soldiers for when the aliens come again. The main character in the story is a young boy named Ender. I then found out there were around 12 books in the series. I decided to read the next book "Speaker for the Dead". If you thought George Lucas went off the deep end with 3 new Star Wars movies, this guy did a whole lot worse. The sequel consists of Ender going to another world with a new race consisting of little pigs that stand on their hind legs. To show respect and honor to the pigs which are outstanding in their tribe, the pigs eviscerate them while they're still alive and then plant a tree inside their opened up body. The pig then becomes the tree. I honestly thought the guy was on drugs when I started reading this. Some how I managed to read this entire book and the next one in the series. Despite how horrible that book was, I still had hope that the next one would some how change it. I was wrong. The next book is named "Xenocide" and consisted of page after page after page after page after page after page of a little girl tracing floor tiles or wood grain lines. Yes you heard correctly. FLOOR TILES and WOOD GRAIN LINES! Why did she do this? To please the Gods she was supposably hearing. There are pages upon pages of others doing similar things too. Then you find out later the Gods are not even real and this act was simply a obsessive-compulsive disorder designed by the government to control that world's loyalty. This doesn't make it anymore interesting to read when you find that out. I tried to read parts of this book to my friends to show them how bad it was. They threatened to attack me if I didn't put the book down. That's how bad it is. The only reason I finished that book was because I don't like to leave things half finished. I honestly think that book would be a good substitute for water boarding or any other form of torture people want to use. That's how honestly horrible the book is. It made me physically and literally sick to read it. I would have thought the guy would be out of ides but some how he's managed to write NINE more books in the series. I have no idea how he wrote that many. I think this guy has some serious issues. Someone needs to take the pen and paper away from this guy immediately! Anyways, I thought I'd share that to help prevent others from experiencing my pain. I still recommend reading Ender's Game. Feel free to share the worst book you've read.
  23. There are very few rap songs that I care for. Most country and rap I simply can't stand.
  24. There sure have been a lot of posts about homosexuality and gay marriage lately. There have been 3 new posts about it within the last couple days.
