  1. All I know is the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are coming to see me tomorrow...and they're not bringing flowers...this makes it very difficult for me to get organized.
  2. HiJolly is right it isn't Revelations...it's The Revelation of St. John the Divine. He's being punny, I think.
  3. They call women who date younger men Cougars.... They should call men who date younger women...Rhinos. I think it's kind of funny that Cougars won't let there be a Cougar mascot. Funny that, I as a Cougar (not BYU) didn't get the memo that we were protesting such things.
  4. I think this is one of the big issues in our country right now, the wacky unemployment laws...it's all or nothing. I have to think there are many who would work at a part time job, but are afraid of losing benefits. Anyway as a person who has had to work at 'lower' class jobs to feed kids, I think those who do are great examples. And I think the words to describe those people are responsible adults.
  5. For the record Christ carries every one of those scars...every single one, for everyone. So yes they can be healed, just as he was healed and made perfect. And if someone doesn't understand that they don't understand the Atonement. If you can't get passed her sins then perhaps you need to move on. If you can see that she is repented, has the ability to be compassionate to others who have committed the same sins she has (which could include your children) and understand that her repentance process has made her a better person then you can marry her. And did she sin against you? Was she married to you when she committed these sins? If not then these sins are between her and God...and he has forgiven her...so why is his forgiveness not enough for you?
  6. Lydie Just remember...look for a Joseph. He married a single un-wed teenage mom too. ;-) Not all men are cut out to be a Joseph...and that is fine...but you want a Joseph for you and your child. Some people might look down on you...and you can't change that. You don't want to date those men anyway. You must also look for men who aren't just out looking for a single mom with a child for other very bad reasons...I am sorry to say there are evil men out there like that, targeting women with small children to abuse the kids. So yes filter filter filter, for both you and your child. You are young and have time, the right man will show up. And welcome back.
  7. This always makes me wonder why Vlad was given such a bad rap...the people he put on stakes were the Ottoman Empire who were on an Islamic Crusade to take over Europe. But there we have it...Vlad became Dracula and then incarnated into some evil personage. He was one of the main reasons Islam didn't spread faster into Europe, and did it against the Popes wishes...which again seems odd.
  8. It is my opinion that being a partial tithe payer is better than being a non-tithe payer. One will not reap the blessings of a full tithe payer, but if you are truly working to get to be a full tithe payer then God will see that in your heart. If, however, you just want to keep the money for selfish reasons, God will also see that in your heart. It will keep you from receiving the blessings of going to the temple as being a full tithe payer is a requirement for a recommend, but one can also repent of not paying tithing and be forgiven. I suggest you ask your own Bishop on the issue, tell him your thoughts and problems. This is one of the easy tasks that he can help with.
  9. I am going to say no to going behind his back. I would also suggest getting into some sort of co-dependent therapy group for yourself. It will help you know how to deal with this issue, your husband is an addict and you wanting to control his recovery is a huge codependent action. You can not do it, you can however control your actions, not reactions to his actions, and therapy will give you the tools to do so.
  10. Sealing only gives the opportunity for forever, it doesn't guarantee it. It will be legit after both people endured to the end, and the end is a long long way aways.
  11. How about this... Not only women get raped, they are however the majority. But men can get raped, not just by women but by men. And children can get raped. This poster is a step in the right direction in making people, yes it is targeting men here, but making people take responsibility for their own sexual actions. That if a person is drunk, or wearing a tank top, or running around in diapers, or has cute pecks, or whatever...it gives no one the right to rape them. period. And if that is a feminist idea...then it's a good idea. I have to guess it's also a Christ like idea.
  12. I live in a ward that has these issues also. As a person who has been inactive and then come back, I have plenty of people who try to trap me in my past, and I think some of them will never see me as changed. However, the Bishop has also seen this (and I think it's not just me) and has worked hard at changing the attitudes of those who are so judgmental. Jayanna, I think you are doing the Christlike thing....I think the others are not. I'd be tempted to walk up to them and say 'I'm taking back your Christianity card cause you don't meet the requirements'. Eowyn, I am sorry that happened to you, I've had almost the same experience. In fact my ward was so bad that I ended up going inactive, and my children both left the church their YW/YM leaders were so harsh on them for being from a single parent family. Both of them would be in tears after every meeting, meeting after meeting, for about a year before I finally said they didn't have to go anymore. My daughter has since returned...my son is a full fledged Evangelical now. I do blame myself because I should have done more than I did, instead of just complaining to the Bishop at the time, I should have made him do something more. I should have worked harder at keeping them in the church, but it's hard to see your children in tears every single Sunday because of the cruel words of the Adults in the ward.
  13. A friend of mine posted something like this on Facebook a while back. It is the same thing they tell women, i.e., have men travel in twos or more, an if one of them feels like they are going to rape a woman, their friends can stop them. Or if they see a woman in a dark place, they won't rape her. Or if a woman is wearing a tank top, they won't rape her. I really like the idea that men can be in charge of their own sexuality and that they can control their own thoughts. I know we teach our daughters to dress modest ect...it would be nice if we taught our sons not to view women as sex objects, no matter what they are wearing.
  14. See...there's the problem....use real denominations, small....untraceable. No one cares about $1's....they never check those. BTW I am just joking here. I do not advocate making counterfeit money, ever.
  15. #1 rule of counterfeiting - make the bills small 1's, 5's, 10's and 20's, nothing over 20. Gosh I thought everyone knew that.
  16. I think he is trying to say that tithing, temple work, fasting, prayer, home teaching, service are commandments and aren't quite enough to get us to the Celestial Kingdom, that we have to do more. I might be off, but that's what I think he is trying to say. I'm not sure what I think about it all, because I think it takes all of that and more....that we have to do more, that more is required, but that is just me. The scripture of not being commanded in all things comes to mind, that to reach the Celestial Kingdom we will have to govern ourselves, choose to do more, to strive to live better than what is commanded. But again that is just me, I could be way off.
  17. I look at in the terms of odds....A doctor has probably 15 to 20 patients a day, sees me once in a while, the odds of him remember what I look like are pretty low. HoosierGuy I am pretty sure in most states it is illegal to discuss medical information with people outside the patients care providers.
  18. I think I understand what you are trying to say. I don't think it is the Church that is off. We have been repeatedly told, in very recent General Conferences we must do more than just the mere temple recommend requirements..ie attending meetings, living the WoW, and doing just our callings. The Prophet and Apostles have been saying to do more repeatedly. In the next few months and years they will ask more and more of us, we are now being asked to make this generations sacrifice, just like every generation before. The watchmen are screaming....its up to us to actually do the work.
  19. Reminds me of President Monson's talk at the Christmas Devotional about The Mansion, by Henry Van Dyke. I have often seen people believe because they have money that God loves them more...and people without money question God's love for them...both of which are falsely based and cause hurt between people (therefore probably from the devil IMHO)
  20. I understand your position gopecon, but I would rather the States keep their rights instead of having the Feds control things. But I am a big states rights fan.
  21. In some religions yes. And in some cultural leanings of members of a religion yes. Most of the male is better than female is a cultural teaching not an actual doctrine of the religion. But many times many traditions are cultural and not what God has ordained.
  22. Having a CCW permit myself...I was taught, and it was part of my training and knowledge that every EVERY state has different laws, and before I carry concealed or unconcealed it is MY responsibility to know law. period. She is the reason our gun laws are in danger, she is an irresponsible gun owner. When I travel to see my son, I know that in Oklahoma I have to have my gun un-concealed. However, when I am in Arizona I can carry concealed. I would never go into a state with my weapon concealed not knowing the state laws, ever. That is just stupidity in action.
  23. Preparation also includes being prepared spiritually. I don't have any idea what 2012 will bring, I can't change the worlds finances, or the US state of things. But I can live a righteous live, get as much preparation temporally as possible, prepare to help others, and most important I can be sure to be truly converted not just relying solely on my testimony of covenants or the church or the leaders, but to be truly converted to Christ. I also believe we will see the beginning of the shifting of the wheat and tares, many are called but few are chosen will start to take shape soon.
  24. What I learned about Job.
  25. I read this book once that had this story of this people....first they were prideful, then they turned from God...then their government went bad. Sometimes they repented, spread the word of God, brought the nation back to righteousness through compassionate service and missionary work, taking care of the poor on their own...but they always seemed to get back into favor with God, do the right thing for a bit, then they always always ended up getting prideful, not showing any brotherly love or compassion towards each other, rejecting the word of God...and eventually the enemy of the People of God ended up more righteous then them...and then they were destroyed. Moral of the story. A righteous people will always have the blessings of God and will not have an evil government. It's always the people who stray from Gods words that leads to a bad government. For me I am far less concerned about how evil the big bad government is, as I am on how righteous I am living, what missionary work I can do, and how I can help those in need. Because I believe if I am going to save this country, it isn't up to anyone but me and how I live the gospel. Oh and I read the entire book not just the feel good, gonna be like the Nephites part...because in the end the Nephites blew it due to their own wickedness, not because of their government...they let the evil government into place because they failed in keeping their covenants to the Lord.
