  1. So if I work Sundays and happen to be close enough to a church building I should not be allowed to attend, oh let's say Sacrament Meeting, because I wear a uniform, because that means the government is intruding? That is absurd.
  2. There are five police officers in my ward. Four are active and two are always armed. Private property ownership and the right to make rules on that property trumps your right to carry a firearm. If I tell you that your weapon is not welcome on my private property, you have no right to bear your weapon on my property. I find it interesting that there have been bishops and stake presidents who havce allowed/encouraged certain members of thier ward/stake to continue to carry a firearm.
  3. Our EQ uses it. I like it.
  4. Nobody here has advocated "overpreparing" as you put it.
  5. I have stayed in touch with my close friends from high school. Three of us still get together on a regular basis. I skipped my 5 & 10 year reunions. I just didn't care. We had no 15 year. I helped plan, put together our 20 year. It was a lot of fun. I'm glad I went, I got to see some people that I was curious enough about to spend an evening with. We did not have a 25 year, but there has been some talk of a 30 year. I would probably attend that one. As I said, I have stayed in touch with the few high school people that were truly important to me.
  6. Food storage is a gospel doctrine. The above quotes are but a scratch on the surface of the counsel we have been given to store food.
  7. Have you considered the possibility that the very act of having your food storage on hand actually might be serving as a protective shield, causing the Lord to turn away events and situations which might be harmful to you and your family? Consider this observation made by President James E. Faust: Some have said, "We have followed this counsel in the past and have never had need to use our year's supply, so we have difficulty keeping this in mind as a major priority." Perhaps following this counsel could be the reason why they have not needed to use their reserve (Ensign, May 1986, p. 22). President Benson, from his talk Prepare for the Days of Tribulation, which was printed in the November 1980 Ensign: "The revelation to produce and store food may be as essential to our temporal welfare today as boarding the ark was to the people in the days of Noah" "Too often we bask in our comfortable complacency and rationalize that the ravages of war, economic disaster, famine, and earthquake cannot happen here. Those who believe this are either not acquainted with the revelations of the Lord, or they do not believe them. Those who smugly think these calamities will not happen, that they somehow will be set aside because of the righteousness of the Saints, are deceived and will rue the day they harbored such a delusion. "The Lord has warned and forewarned us against a day of great tribulation and given us counsel, through His servants, on how we can be prepared for these difficult times. Have we heeded His counsel?" "Our bishops' storehouses are not intended to stock enough commodities to care for all the members of the Church. Storehouses are only established to care for the poor and the needy. For this reason, members of the Church have been instructed to personally store a year's supply of food, clothing, and, where possible, fuel. By following this counsel, most members will be prepared and able to care for themselves and their family members, and be able to share with others as may be needed" (Ezra Taft Benson, "Ministering to Needs through the Lord's Storehouse System," Ensign, May 1977, 82). The Church cannot be expected to provide for every one of its millions of members in case of public or personal disaster. --James E. Faust
  8. He used his free agency to take away someone else's innocence. He deserves the consequences of his actions. Hopefully an extended period of time in prison where he can not take away someone else's innocence. Being in prison is not likely to affect his "ability to rehabilitate." Sex offenders have deviant sexual drives and generally do not choose to, either get rehabilitation, or follow through with their rehabiliation. Sex offender recidivism is extremely high. You won't find me sympathetic towards them either.
  9. I get yelled at sometimes...not over the phone, but to my face. Sometimes that doesn't end so well for the yelling party.
  10. I lived in West Lafayette 67-78. Boiler up!!!
  11. Philadelphia 86-88.
  12. How long you wait is between you, your spouse and the Lord. We waited 8 years and that was right for us. Ironically, our neighbors across the street did the same...and it was right for them. Some of our friends had kids right away...and that was right for them.
  13. Did you get a priesthood blessing? That is how I defeated the horror that is PTSD.
  14. I don't need to. I am quite familiar with the topic.
  15. Only if you have done something criminal.
  16. Buy a pistol or buy a shotgun, don't bother with the Judge. I prefer a handgun, but I also carry one as part of my profession. A shotgun is still a good home defense weapon, as long as you know how to safely handle/use it. How firearms familiar are you? How about your spouse?
  17. I have little conversation with my inlaws. They have been manipulative and abusive for 21 years. Fortunately for me I am a type A personality and hold my own. I wish you luck with your situation...it isn't a lot of fun.
  18. A new optic for my work rifle. I also got some nice beer mugs (for my soda). I love heavy mugs and found some cheap and told my wife to give them to me for Christmas.
  19. My wife and I like Tetris Party.
  20. Awesome song...awesome cover. FTR: original material by Metallica would be Of Wolf and Man
  21. I've been married 21.5 years to a sister missionary from my mission. We did not really meet until we were both home. I knew who she was, she knew who I was, but there was no connection in the field. We actually met at a mission get together about a year after she was home and six months after I was home. Same thing with my cousin, who happened to serve in my mission as well. They are at 22.5 years. There was a third "couple" from our mission who are now divorced.
  22. Great resource list. Why don't you post it over at GLO too? I'm the Stake Welfare Specialist and we have been focused the last year on emergency plans for the wards. The last little while I've been feeling like we need to focus on food storage for the wards.
  23. I've read about 30 of them.
  24. I'm disappointed that the Ruby Mountains were left out. My favorite range by far. We used to have a cabin in Thomas Canyon.
