Food Storage opinion, Has this gone bad?
mirkwood replied to Still_Small_Voice's topic in General Discussion
If it is in the original vacum sealed package, I would take a Sharpie and label it "old" and put it back into storage. You can always check it for edibility if needed during an emergency. It can be used for barter/charity/personal use as needed. I would also buy a new one as a replacement. I have several of these bars in my food storage. I ate one last year during SWAT tryouts. Quick easy energy/food. -

@ kayne: I'd suggest you start reading the deadly force statutes for your state. You clearly have no clue about when you can and cannot use deadly force.

I'm going to pick at the three of your examples that I am most familiar with. I really don't like reactionary accusations and three of your choices are. The UC Davis pepper spray incidenet. What really happened: Still think it was unjustified? Those guys were a lot more patient that I would have been. BART: A horrendous tragedy. Beyond words a tragedy. It was also an accident. Officer Mehserle intended to use his taser and due to a set of terrible circumstances used the wrong tool for the situation. Guilty of murder...no...but certainly of involuntary manslaughter. This article explains what happened: The BART shooting tragedy: Lessons to be learned A horrible tragedy...words don't even express it. A man is dead and an officer's life ruined over an accident. A horrible, horrible accident. I carry my taser in an off hand holster because I never want this to happen to me. This incident solidified my decision/belief and some departments now require this, because of this accident. Treyvon Martin. The media has so distorted the facts in this case that anyone trying to use this as an example of what is wrong with policing makes themselves laughable. At least one media outlet has already admitted to "doctoring" the story. I've been in law enforcement for 15 years. I am the typical officer. I respond to thousands of calls for service every year. I write hundreds of reports. I interact with thousands and thousands and thousands of people yearly. We don't shoot people very often, we don't tase people very often, we don't pepper spray people very often, we don't use force on people very often. My philosophy and that of the vast majority of my co-workers: Treat people with as much respect as they allow me to. The myth of police brutatlity, promoted by the leftist media is exactly that...a myth. Are there unjustified incidents? Of course. They are the exception, not the norm. But they sure make great media don't they. The police make unpopular decisions. Everything from writing tickets, to making arrests, to not doing what someone wants you to do, even if it is unjustified or illegal. Yes, we get people all the time who want us to break the law, "just for them." It makes them mad when we don't. The bad apples are a problem for us. We do our best to get rid of them and where appropriate charge them. Fortunately they are far fewer then the media portrays.

Are you advocating shooting a police officer? Mods/admins....I take extreme exception to this post and poster.

Yes it is a violation in Utah. 41-6a-711. Following another vehicle -- Safe distance -- Exceptions. (1) The operator of a vehicle: (a) may not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having regard for the: (i) speed of the vehicles; (ii) traffic upon the highway; and (iii) condition of the highway; and (b) shall follow at a distance so that at least two seconds elapse before reaching the location of the vehicle directly in front of the operator's vehicle. (2) Subsection (1)(b) does not apply to funeral processions or to congested traffic conditions resulting in prevailing vehicle speeds of less than 35 miles per hour. -
Yea I get enough abuse with adding to it here.

Food costs have been inflating for much longer then two years...more like 7-8 years. What also is not getting factored into rising food costs, is shrinking packaging/amounts, coinciding with the rising prices.

Please check mark which response closest resembles your opinion. Overall, do you believe that businesses are fair in their treatment of the family needs of their employees? Fair Science tells us that the first three years of life are critical for a child's development. Would you approve of businesses being mandated to offer maternity leave of up to three (3) years? Totally unapprove Would you approve of businesses being mandated to offer maternity leave of up to two (2) years? Totally unapprove Would you approve of businesses being mandated to offer maternity leave of up to one (1) year? I dreamed once that several of my co-workers and I were assigned to assist with Pres. Hinckley's security detail. We ended up in a wild shootout with Al-Qaeda outside a ward building in the city I was working at the time.

It varies from product to product. If we are living off those long term items (20-30+)because we have too, I'm confident that we will use the food up before the shelf life expires. Long term foods are like a savings account, you put it on your shelf and have the peace of mind that it is there. You then use your regular foods as your checking account and add in those things from long term storage you wish to use now/rotate.

Married people: How do you handle your finances with your spouse?
mirkwood replied to lizzy16's topic in Advice Board
We have equal access to all our money. One joint bank account and one small one for a small business my wife runs. I have access to the account. In general I pay the bills, I buy the groceries. We share all the responsibilities, but each take the lead in certain areas. -
Here is what I have taught for years. Easy Preparedness: Why Food Storage and Emergency Preparedness? I have well above a years supply of food of all the varieties I talk about in that blog post. I believe a broad mixture of all the options available is the best way to go.

I call it self reliance.

I have absolutely no problem with criminals being embarrassed along with the legal penalties for their crimes. For example, I'd like sex offenders to have bright fluorscent pink license plates and driver licenses.

Do I tell her Bishop and stop her temple wedding?
mirkwood replied to sm1487's topic in Advice Board
Your responsibility is to repent of your own sins. Quite frankly your "concerns" about her bishop and stake president "knowing" about her sins sound rather manipulative on your part to me. A wise bishop once told me that he often knew when people were lying during TR interviews. He said that the promptings always came that it was between them and the Lord as to the consequences of those lies. I have several friends who violated the law of chastity and married in the temple. They all eventually repented. Get your own life in order and then find a woman, not an immature little girl, that has your standards and then take her to the temple. You will both be much happier. -
Then having one would not be a good idea for you.

Tell her you would like her to write you while you are gone. Tell her you would like to continue to see where this relationship goes once you return, but for the next two years your intent is to focus on your mission. Nothing wrong with having a girlfriend waiting for you. Several of my friends married their girlfriends after they came home. Several got "dumped" while they were gone.

Thank you for your service Godless.

Interesting. I have dealt with a lot of people behaving like this in the past 15 years. Lots. So far, I can only remember two (together) that were in the military. All the others I have dealt with were very respectful, even while drunk. I can't say that about a lot of the people I've had to deal with that were not in the military. I wonder what world you live in. Does the sun shine much? You seem awfully consumed with hatred. I hope you find some peace, I'd suggest starting with the scriptures. They certainly bring peace to a lot of people I know.

OK, I'm really glad I had just swallowed that drink of Propel right before seeing this...I woud have needed some paper towels to clean my screen.

Oh are we playing the sarcasm game now? I'm realllllly good at that one too.

My experience has been the vast majority of people who make these statements have been arrested for various criminal activities and want to lay the blame at somebody else's feet rather then accepting the consequences of thier own actions. Hey, this broadbrush statement thing is kind of fun. Shall we play some more?
