  1. How about hanging a picture of the nearest temple? You could take a trip to the nearest temple and walk on the grounds.
  2. Who knew! I guess the wards that I have attended have always been too small. Good idea though! If there is a woman attending Gispel Princilples I usually attend with her. Sometimes they feel lonely with just the guys. But I miss the Book of Mormon Sunday school class a lot! I have never got to attend all of the classes and boo, I am about to leave again!
  3. True. I think if you are married to a nonmember you would go crazy, as would the kids if you did not compromise.
  4. I have noticed that if you have one of a variety of health problems eg high blood pressure, heart problems they often ask you to abstain from tea and coffee.
  5. Husband giving permission for ordinance. By the way, we had this lesson in Relief Society and...we (my country? My stake?) got rid of the husband having to give permission rule. Leaders found husbands were using rule for blackmail! Interesting difference in culture!
  6. I was an atheist. He was in my life. Nudging me towards the path. My arm is stretched out still. He was there.
  7. A beard hides a multitude of chins.
  8. I did not know there was a handbook! But I read it as you directed.seems good to me. visiting: I do this on my own, I have theoretically a companion who is semi active comes to church occasionally. I have from time to time invited her, got excuses which may be genuine, my phone doesn't work, I don't read email etc. Normally here an active sister is paired with an inactive sister. I admit that this is a good way to reActivate sisters but it often drives the active sister nuts. I have sometimes walked into a dangerous situation visiting teaching on my own. I would never again visit someone that I do not know on my own. i visit 2 active sisters and one inactive sister. With the active sisters we go through the lesson and then I listen to their problems. This problem listening thing took years of visits Maybe 4 years to achieve so when they try to change the route I make a fuss. the inactive sister seems to have no interest in religion. I was her visiting teacher for some years and I worked really hard to establish a relationship. The powers that be insisted that she be seen by someone else so for years the inactive sister refused to see anyone until they gave her back to me. I have again worked hard to put together a relationship. We talk about her life and the kids. I follow promptings but I am a bit at sea. i have a visiting teacher who does not visit very often. She comes maybe every 3 or 4 months but I call her and ask her advice from time to time. I am happy with this. As you can imagine I know the lesson very well by the end of the month. The ladies that I visit are happy with me. They know that I care. I know the things that they like and I buy them little treats! Everyone seems happy. I like having people to care for and women normally don't have anyone who cares for them it works.
  9. I can think of reasons for the explicit violence in the Book of Mormon. For example later generations might argue that the lamanities were not so bad. There was after all a musical written from the point of view of Judas, the name is sacreligious to me.
  10. Thanks for the apology! I am trying to get over it!
  11. Thanks for the tip!
  12. I must try Vidangel!
  13. I've just been asked by an investigator to accompany her to Gospel Principles. I had no idea that I was being asked to liven things up!
  14. Ok. I looked up Pam's Raggedy Creations! They are beautiful and she is taking orders for Christmas. And..she has a link to info about the church!
  15. I do public service workshops on employment law but I don't make any money doing it, but I enjoy it.
  16. My you are a busy person! What are you taking in school if you do not mind my asking?
  17. Thanks so much! I really appreciate your suggestions!
  18. I am trying to remember where this happened in the Book of Mormon...later on in the book, the nephites ask a converted lamanite to fool the Laminities. The Laminities believe that the converted Laminite is one of them not when they see him but when they hear him speak. This suggests that the two tribes look very similar. seriously with people switching sides all the time there must have been quite a bit of mixing.
  19. Yes! I am sure that you are right! For example, platypus. Could you create the platypus without a sense of humor? No way.
  20. I am proud of the LDS church for taking this approach! Also for the cool way that it has handled the Book of Mormon musical. I love the way the lds public affairs department has handled controversies. Have you heard the address of the guy who heads up the lds public affairs department. http://www.mormonnewsroom.org/article/full-transcript-michael-otterson-address-at-fair-mormon-conference Seriously. One cool dude.
  21. Dear Zil, Many thanks!! Could you recommend a spy novel? I think I should give one of these a try. I have read several John LeCarre books. I do math all day long and so I find the fantasy novels are too much for my poor tired brain! Thanks so much!
  22. There I was picturing you putting dresses and tiaras on boars...ahhh! Now understand!
