When giving my life to Jesus Christ and wanting to go to church and learn about the christian life. I had what I call a revelation of "read my Word". Well I said, that's what I'm going to church to learn about. Again, "read my Word", When I protested that I would not understand it, then I heard, "pass it before your eyes". That I could do. So just to show that I had no way of teaching my self I did read it. Slowly page by page, took some time, but I sure did, pass it before my eyes. What a surprise that came with the obedience of doing that. Thirty five and more years later, I have learned that it is not getting into the Word as much as letting the Word get into me. Rewards are eternal.

We had a nice lunch there last wednesday and plan on being there this wednesday. Good food, nice place. Young lady was taking a survey, and I said, I was there to show agreement for the stand they took. Speaking out for principles, upholding the traditional family.

So many religions--why is yours right?

Prisonchaplain is probably the reason I found the faith to post on this forum. He always has a good clear thought on things. I appreciate that. Coming from a background that is RLDS, some forums will not allow me to be considered a christian. And I really don't know what LDS consider me either, Yet they have been so kind on this forum. That speaks volumes about their faith and church. So Herber, what you post is helpful to me, as I learn how you are growing in your faith. Many blessings to all on this beautiful Lord's day. -
Sermon opposing gay marriage may lead to church eviction

Everyone in this world is looking for acceptance. Many from people, and some from God. My Heavenly Father longs for everyone He and His Son sent here. The price has been paid, the Word is forever settled in heaven. We just establish it here on earth. That is our part. Living away from the word is a road for sadness. And no amount of other peoples acceptance can sooth the hurts. Because they are not really coming from other people. Call on Jesus when you hurt. I do that, and always find comfort and caring and peace within. Depression such as Hemingway suffered with, can afflict any who go there. Don't go there. There is pure joy in the salvation that Jesus gives. And life everlasting. Blessings to all on this beautiful Lord's day. -
Sermon opposing gay marriage may lead to church eviction

As Christians we must be willing to take a stand for what we hold most dear. Renting a school for a church meeting just means you use the building, and you don't surrender your principles. Jesus always says fear not, and that is wonderful good news. -
Is Doctor Who alright for Mormons to Watch?
norah63 replied to madhats's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Talk about old, when we got our first tv, no one wanted the church to know . I wondered why cause I Love Lucy and December Bride, Lone Ranger really entertained me. After the sixties and seventies taught me about living together with Three's Company, ect. Little helpful ways of urging my thinking along to a more 'modern' world view. Now I hear even non Christians say," there is nothing worth watching on it". Guess RFD and the weather channel and news is why we now pay, for what once was free. :^) Enjoyed Sponge Bob, then he was looked upon as questionable. I didn't see it, guess it went over my head. Oh well. -
Sermon opposing gay marriage may lead to church eviction

And taking that stand as a christian is where the road block seems to be. The alternate lifestyles want everyone to approve of them, no matter what, and to make the law of the land the same. As christians we have no right to approve of a lifestyle, or promote one that goes against our faith. There can be no compromise and I pray that our leaders always uphold the traditional family. We cannot love creation (man), more than our Creator. Where is the tolerance when on tv the 'lifestyle' promoters call us haters. I don't hate them, just don't approve of that lifestyle. Competition seems to leads towards compromise. -
That was a good one Herber. I have learned much from all the posts. Jesus says he knows His own, that is a comfort to me. Competing over who has the authority, it always stops at the Head. However others may view us is each ones choice, because everyone must work out their own salvation with fear and trembling. In one post you spoke of how superior it sounded when presenting one religion as tops. That is how I felt many times in the RLDS church. How could you bring a person in to visit, when it sounded like they were not quite smart enough to get it? Jesus never gives that , however man can be so imperfect as to slip a little of that in a sermon from time to time. May we all learn to be better fishers of men. I need it more than most I suppose.

Didn't he tell the police that he was the joker? That is a pretty clear statement if it is correct.

How is the tolerance toward violence in movies, effecting our socitey? If more and more graphic killing is what draws people toward movies, is it 'just' to see the so called good win out over bad? How much more do we really need to see to convince us of that? I just cannot see a good outcome. And where today, are the ones who were killed in a movie theatre, not just in a movie.

Are we not all to be a prophetic people? Receiving for ourselves the infilling of the Holy Spirit into our minds and lives. I understand about the office of prophet . Yet we all have the calling to receive our own personal revelation of any words given. When competing of who's right among religions, it can set us all up for failure, as looking at one another, instead of looking to Jesus as our example and our Lord. I have read some thoughts from an islam site that was more moral than could be found in some so called christian sites. Some churches today have become so liberal that it is embarrassing. -
Well CNN covers the news. Violence in the movies is just another way to infiltrate the mind. 'What so ever things are good, what so ever things are lovely, virtue, praise, think on these things....' As a society and a people called to higher things, especially Christians we must set an example of a better way of life.
-
Violence is reaching a peak in our society. These movies cannot be a way to improve our lot.

There are some in every church that seek for a closer relationship with their Heavenly Father. The OP was saying that as I understood . One of the things that is difficutl for me. The way the RLDS church I was raised in made it sound like you had to be so smart to really be in the proper church. Guess I'm just a farm girl, like another poster says. If you want to know the truth of who Jesus is, and you are a sincere seeker, it will be revealed as James says. As for where you will sit in a congregation, that is the question.
-
Wish my spelling was better. Maybe that is how the problem starts?
-
It depends on the topic sometimes. If I say liberal, I know what I mean, and someone else may not. So they may not present me in a favorable way. If I say I am a christian and someone else says no, is that delebrate misinterpatation? And what else can you do but ognore that.

A lot of the christian books are in the back of the store by the new-age and other weird stuff. It's no wonder that some book stores have to close. Haven't bought a book in a while now. Someone suggested, Not A Fan. But I haven't heard much about it lately, so probably won't spend money for that.

Doc and Cov. 3 :16a, has always been a point of hope for me. "Behold this is my doctrine: Whosoever repenteth and cometh unto me, the same is my church:" The 'us vs them' is just not a profitable road to share the gospel in my humble opinion.
-
Sometimes a topic may just be a verse and another might think it political. I agree the pulpit is for preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. Yet He also got in bad political trouble. What's the answer?

This came in my daily e-mail. Good to remember at any age . I am a senior citizen and need to hear these good words every day. "For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. 1 John 2:16" (New Living Translation) ________________________

That part about " Ahhh being young", lost me. Where does that fit into this discussion? The time limit of disfellowship and all that that costs, does not apply to age I hope.

Why does Socialism seem to lead to the decline of religion?
norah63 replied to a topic in General Discussion
In an earlier post it was said about the 'primitive saints', were not very successful in their way of having all things common. How do we know is wasn't? Just wondering. Have we evolved into a better plan for church life? The divisions in those who are all wanting to serve and take part in the church today would be done away with in an 'all things common' plan. -

"A peculiar scheme of communism under a plan known as the stewardship plan was established" This is how the government wanted the people to think of the Latter Day Saints. That first line is from a history of Missouri book taught to elementry schools. (copyright 1920) Gov. Boggs as a democrat gave the orders, the saints paid a high price. -
Yes belonging to a 'community of faith' is a good thing. However finding that is not so easy. As some have stated here, there are those who love and serve Jesus Christ in most churches or groups. To agree with the birth, death burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus. And agree to serve Him as the Holy Spirit leads, with your whole heart might mind and strength. Knowing our Heavenly Father will always take care of who belongs to Him. That gives me peace in this life. Even if sometimes we have a time of walking alone.
