Anyone else sort of quit watching TV because it's boring?
norah63 replied to Vort's topic in General Discussion
I like to watch househunters international. So much tv is just not worth watching. -
How do you fit it all in? Feel like I am failing already
norah63 replied to autismmum's topic in Advice Board
One thing that has always been of help for me is to practice praise. The Lord inhabits the praises of His people. So to offer up a sacrafice of praise, brings Him close. Even when we don't feel like it is the best of times to praise, because it replaces those doubts with better thoughts. -
So many religions--why is yours right?
norah63 replied to prisonchaplain's topic in Christian Beliefs Board
The OP was 'religion', now it said, 'right' religion, yet the Scriptures speak of pure religion. Almost everyone would want to believe they were in a right religion. How many would care to serve in pure religion? Thanks for making me think about that verse. Lots to ponder on. -
Here for our time alloted. To choose as; Christ asked, who do you say that I am?

At the Crossroads Again: Mormonism and Protestantism

Cross-roads? I like the thought. Good place to meet, at the cross. Then each can take the road they will to follow.- 3 replies

Avoid even the appearance of evil. If any of us lack power from Heavenly Father, it should not be looked for from some other avenue. Even as what some might think of as harmless entertainment.

Unto every one is given a measure of faith. That is enough. All they have to do is exercise it and let it lead them to the truth. Taste and see that the Lord is good. For all things to show that there is a God. If a person wants to sin away their time here on earth, that is a poor choice, but their choice. -
Guess that has just been my expierence with those who have visited at our home. Never did they ask to pray, or ask me about prayer. So I didn't bring it up, maybe should have. Thanks for letting me know it might have been because we would not have used the same title to adress in prayer. I always pray to my Father in Jesus name.
-
Where's that scripture about, 'when the more part of the people choose to do evil'? Cause in the society we are living in, it's just too true sometimes. There is no 'sin' accounted for, it's always just a 'mistake'.... how convenient is that?

Why does this pervert still have a teaching job?
norah63 replied to Vort's topic in General Discussion
Words matter, and a teacher who teaches this kind of language is very inapproprate to have in any class, at any age. Another example of how loose morals have become in our society. As people of faith we should be the first to speak against such things. -
Guess the question about prayer wasen't taken up. Was it inapproprate to ask why? If someone wants to reach another person with their faith then praying togeather would bring an openness of the spirit of each person. Do Mormon missionaries pray with each one they visit?
-
What about that vow, 'for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, keeping yourself only for your mate, from all others, till death due you part.' What God joins togeather, let not man put away. I am just old fashioned enough to believe and keep a vow like this after 48 years. Repentance is included to help through all the years.

We get most of our news on the Weather Channel. Really when the storms were going on all the so called news channels were still covering some hollywood stuff. Good music on the weather channel as well. Yeah tv is just the worst it's ever been. I watch The Middle and that's about all.

May I slip in the conversation and ask a question ? Have always wondered why, on visits, that JW's do not ask or accept prayer with those they contact? Having study time with some for a time, it would seem approprate to open or close with a prayer. All of the information so far has been very enlightning. It is good to learn from one another.

It is not just the LDS church that this happens at. Having attended several prodestant houses of worship it can be the same there. People are all alike. If they don't know you, they don't take time or effort to get to know you. Carry a bible and even the preacher won't want to talk to you. Teaching a class or cleaning the building or cooking food doesn't help either. Thankfully we have a friend that sticks closer than a brother, and He is the only one who counts.

Will rising illegitimacy be our downfall
norah63 replied to prisonchaplain's topic in Current Events
It already has to a great extent IMO. This thread is as current today, as the first day it was posted. There are two covenants, one for our salvation the other for our marriage. So as marriage goes, so goes the nation. May we re-awaken to our own faults and redeem the time we each have been given. There is a need for the cry of repentance to ring out from every door of every denomination. That is good news. -
Having attended a few diffrent christian congregations. Have never attended LDS one, the things that I noticed most, is the sameness of them all. Song or opening, prayer, news business, songs, thirty minute sermon, song prayer. That's it. In some they fit a communion into the service mostly after a sunday school time, just before the 'church service'. Pretty cut and dried. If you want fellowship, get there early and visit or stay late for the same. That's traditions of man IMO. What would be edifying would be a time for real communion of each there. as given in 1 cor:12--7

What would I do? Well being from a small town where everybody knows everybody, I'd probably try to find out who this person was. Then like you have choosen to do, I'd probably put a little space between me and them till I had worked it out in my soul. Getting old doesn't have to be the problem, being a senior saint we all know that. Some posts just judged you, like they thought you did her. Reap what we sow is hard lesson for me too. I have been in your shoes a couple of times, in diffrent congregations. Just toughed it out till things changed, as they always do. Seemed like the men had diffrent ways of seeing this than the ladies did. I learned from that. Thanks for a post that made me think what I would do.

Structured in other Christian demoninations?
norah63 replied to girlygirl's topic in Christian Beliefs Board
Thank you PC. That was the original thought that caused me to post. It may not be a brick and morter building we share. Just a simple forum. I am grateful for the fellowship. Some very lively and some very thoughtful. Unless we rightly divide the Word we cannot hear each other very well, and It seems we are all giving it our best go. -
The first thought that came to my mind when I saw the heading of the thread was. The traditions of man have made the word of God of none effect. Something like that if not exact. Yet I liked that 2 Thess. quote also. Such a diffrence between the ones given by God and the ones given by man.

Structured in other Christian demoninations?
norah63 replied to girlygirl's topic in Christian Beliefs Board
Really learned a lot of how each sees the truth on this thread. What church to attend as it started. Can we fellowship with other christians it sort of seemed like. Having respect for all the posters in this forum is like attending with them. Didn't Jesus say something about, ' if they are not against me , ? -
I would hope that discussion isn't to 'get the other person to agree', could it just be to open up our hearts to one another and share our hopes and encouragement. Having found such blessings in reading the book of Mormon, and also blessings from the fellowship of so many evangelical teachings. The first line of the Lords prayer comes to mine. "Our Father" Jesus taught us to pray as a family. Diffrent ages and duties, diffrent talents and abilities. They are not to seperate us, but to make us a strong church. A beautiful bride, without spot wrinkle or blimish. There is a way throught the tangle of the ages, and everyone feels like they are not able to be decieved. Scripture is from the revelation to the reciever, no man stands in that place. That is done by the Holy Spirit. For the Spirit of all truth will lead us all into the unity of the faith. We can be assured of that, because Jesus already prayed it. Fear not little flock, it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
-
And as we each hear from the Scriptures, and are getting revelation, why should they be so diffrent? We know that there is only one truth. The lack of agreement comes from our side not the Holy Spirit. There was compitition in the early church just as now. Yet the power still flowed out to an unsaved world. When did the early church start to lose the great miracles? Was it after the divisions got to a point where the Jewish believers and the gentile believers came to odds? So does the Evangelical church have a diffrent approach to wittness to a Jewish person than a Mormon does? Some religions don't wittness because they think the Jewish or Israel people will get that in the thousand year reign. Can't see it that way myself, today is the day of salvation in my mind.
