  1. Thanks. I realized you got them at your endowment, but I’ve spoken to people who have been endowed and just don’t wear them and shrugged it off as though it were optional. I realize I’ll learn more if the time comes, but it was something I was curious about.
  2. Sorry for another garment discussion. I didn’t see a clear answer when I searched, but that may just be due to searching on a cell phone. Why do some Mormons wear garments and others don’t? Is it a bad thing to not wear them? Are there clear directions given when they should or shouldn’t be worn (exercise, swimming, KISS concerts, etc)? Sometimes I wish we had a “members only” section in case I ask something inappropriate.

    Hi!

I hope you stick around so I’m not the new guy anymore.
  4. So, the stigma of enlisted being “uneducated” is a holdover from the old days and very unfortunate. It’s difficult to get promot d far in enlisted ranks without a bachelors, and even harder to make Sergeant Major without a masters. Here it is in a nutshell: Enlisted ranks are the junior soldiers with no to minimal experience. Typically you need minimal test scores and a HA diploma or GED to join. If enlisted Soldiers stay in long enough, and do well, they become noncommissioned officers. To progress higher as a noncommissioned officer education is helpful and at some point required, though not officially. Many enlisted Soldiers join specifically for the education benefits. National Guard is known for this because they serve one weekend a month and typically get free tuition and a stipend while in school. The next level is Warrant Officer. If you have good test scores you and are an expert in your field you can become an officer through warrant. Typically you must become an NCO ( noncommissioned Officer) before you can become a Warrant. Warrants are officers through expertise, not education. Officers are strategic leaders. You must have 60 college credits to enter the program, 90 credits to become an officer, and must complete a degree within a specified amount of time. You can become an officer through training, not experience. It’s also not unusual for enlisted members to become officers once they complete their degrees. They all do different, but equally important, jobs. One of my best enlisted Soldiers was a law professor who wanted to be an NCO and didn’t pursue a commission. You’ll find varying levels of education in all the ranks. Hope this helps.
  5. There is SO much more to it than that. If I remember, I’ll break it down tonight.
  6. Don’t pressure me. I still have that new car smell.
  7. This. Don’t over think it. We’re just happy to have you.
  8. Well, I know at least one convert.
  9. Under the tab “ministering” there are 4 names, which I assumed I was assigned to minister to.
  10. No, I can’t see assigned teachers. Only callings.
  11. I wouldn’t even know where to look. Nothing pops out at me.
  12. Did you just call me abnormal?
  13. Thanks! Oddly, it wasn’t there before. I guess I’ll be told when they’re ready.
  14. I w my on LDS Tools last night and noticed I had 4 people assigned to me under “ministering”. One is active in the Church, but I’m not familiar with the other three ladies. Nobody has said anything to me about ministering and everyone I’ve asked in my ward seems to have no information. I’ll talk to the Bishop, but does anyone have any info? I just start knocking? If I don’t come back, assume I’ve been kidnapped.
  15. Phew
  16. Can we take that a step further? Let's say, "hypothetically" we had a move-in day where a single woman was moving into her boyfriend's house. Would you help?
  17. Absolutely. It very well could have happened. My only point is 34 years ago this incident supposedly happened. Skip forward and we have an aging defendant and a woman with alleged criminal behavior that includes faking incidents like this in the past.
  18. Sure. Only in the indicated circumstance "nicknames" are really made up "aliases". Which is why I included quotes.
  19. You know who else goes by "nicknames"? Con artists and criminals.
  20. https://www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/arizona-investigations/2018/03/24/amid-quiet-life-chandler-explosive-sexual-assault-allegations-hit-mormon-leader/449975002/ There is just so much about this story that makes me wonder.
  21. You must subscribe to the same newsletters I do.
  22. I just came here to post this. It was funny.
  23. Thank you for such a thought-out response. I've been doing a ton of research (who'd have thought) and I think my expectations are in line with what you've shared. I'm trying to take a more holistic approach to minor ailments and this is something I'm looking into. I know you can get some of the same benefits from natural remedies that you get from chemicals and I'm just trying to sort those out, I suppose. There are SO many companies out there with varying reviews.
