  1. Is it better to be right or better to be married?
  2. Keep in mind this was some 40 years ago. My father-in-law met his future wife on his mission. He lived across the street (in bountiful Utah) and had to ask to be transferred because he couldn't handle seeing her go on dates it was too distracting, because he knew she was the one - they wrote each other during the mission. Fast forward to the end of the mission and when he went home the mission president allowed her to see him off at the airport and told him to give her a kiss before he left home. My how things have changed. Nothing wrong with a single girl being attracted to a missionary, and you have done everything you should do not to distract him from the work. Follow up in 9 months and if it works out great, and if not that's okay too.
  3. How can one possibly get lost in the right path? Looking beyond the mark. I thought it profound when one of the general authorities spoke about the time on his mission where he had a companion who snuggled struggled*mightily in the service. When petitioning Heavenly Father the thought came to him - Compared to me the two of you are not much different. we shouldn't beat ourselves up because of our shortcomings but should strive to become better and repent often. We are so far from perfection I think Heavenly Father is more interested in our desire to be better and to become like him one day.
  4. A bishop is a judge in Israel. If you really want to get a full scope of what a bishop does in regards to dealing with sin the church website has a bunch of different publications. Here is one: https://www.lds.org/manual/doctrine-and-covenants-student-manual/enrichment-i-judges-in-israel-watching-over-the-church?lang=eng
  5. God would never ask you to do more than you could handle and I do think there are many people like Nephi he would not ask them to do this. However, I think we all have tests so regardless of what it is we will all be pushed to do something that is very difficult and requires us to exercise the utmost amount of faith.
  6. I would say times can vary based on the level of viewing and if it's an addiction. I have heard missionaries needing to wait 6 months to go on a mission but that didn't mean they had to wait 6 months to go to the temple. I have heard as little as 3 months but there is no hard rule in the handbook. I would say she is doing pretty well and it's probably something she should let her bishop know about so you can plan accordingly. I would be surprised if it was much more than 3 months or maybe a few more from what you are saying but once again it's case by case.
  7. When I click on the link it just goes to handbook 2. Must have been a glitch.
  8. Great conversation. I spent the first 6 months as a missionary studying the bible in an effort to learn all the scriptures necessary to go toe to toe with investigators so I could show them their errors. I then spent the next 18 months of my mission never "bible bashing". I gained a lot of knowledge studying but I learned when someone really wanted to hear the truth and was willing to listen that I could share scriptures and bear testimony that would help change their life. I can tell that you have an open heart and are seeking truth and you will be blessed. If it makes you feel any better, in all the forums that I visit that are LDS we are often discussing different subject that we disagree on like this and we belong to the same church. It's a learning process. The key is that we as members all have common beliefs and testimony of things like, living prophets, bible, Book of Mormon but most of all Christ. I would look for the common beliefs with your husband and continue to build those and as mentioned earlier before, jumping into the 3 degree's of glory start with a testimony of the Book of Mormon - you need to know that it is a true book. You have a lot of faith - Keep going! Also, just a side note - I like to compare a testimony to building a wall. You start with a foundation of Christ and continue to build but sometimes you have rocks that just don't fit into your wall. Eventually all the rocks will fit but instead of stopping construction on your wall, set the rock to the side. Build with the rocks that fit and you will be very successful - don't completely ignore the rocks you have put to the side but have patience and you will do great.
  9. We do the Trunk-or-treat, chili cook-off, dessert cook-off, ward dinner (obviously) game night and barrel rides. All this talk of food is making me want to go to lunch.
  10. I remember dating a girl long ago and praying if she was the one. I felt the impression that I could marry her but if I didn't there would be someone else. I didn't marry her and moved on. I am sure I would have been fine if I married the first girl but I am also really happy when I married the girl I did and have been married for some 16 years now. I am guessing the doubts you are having are probably coming from the adversary. I was reading some of the notes from Mormon Leaks (I know I'm a sinner for reading them but there is some really good stuff there) and I believe it was one of the apostles said to the other leaders something to the effect: "No matter how well you are treating your wife, it's not enough." Gulp, I guess I better do a little better.
  11. I believe there are apps that allow you to filter phones as well - I would do a search. However, if he wants to find it he will - it's just better that it's not easy to access.
  12. What was the outcome of this as I didn't see if you accepted or didn't accept the calling. I would agree with this post about accepting the calling - I would but I would be honest to the stake president and seek his council and let him decide if it's right for you. I am in a bishopric right now. I am so not even close to being eligible for this calling but like you get the old - you will be bishop next blah blah blah. I remember reading a story of a bishop that lost his testimony while he was bishop. He kept it to himself, did his calling and worked through it for 2 years until one day it came back and he knew the church was true all while he was still bishop. It was a trial of his faith but he kept moving forward and gave it some time. It's ironic that we find people in the church with amazing testimonies and experiences that struggle being charitable and selfless (this is me), and then on the other hand we have you who is full of charity and love and service with little to no testimony of the gospel. Keep on going, if any of your family or ward finds out your struggles and try to fix you be patient with them. I would love to give you some of my testimony but alas I can't, but keep going brother the Lord knows your good heart you will continue to be blessed as you keep trying your best.
  13. If it's short term the ward you are in now the bishop can okay it but that's typically just for a few weeks or a few months. We have had a sister in our ward for about a year where she jumps from apartment to apartment and the bishop thought it would be best she just come to our ward since she is all over the place. If it's long term then you need the stake presidents permission and both stake presidents usually need to agree on it or at least should. Other cases where I have seen this justified is if their is an issue with ex-spouses or maybe there are members who don't get along. I even saw a time when a someone was called as a bishop in another stake who was just barely on the boundaries (the stake he was in didn't know as it happened when there were some boundary changes) - haha You do have the right to go to any ward but your records will be where you live so you can't hold a calling or get a temple recommend from a bishop of a ward where your records do not reside. I wouldn't be too concerned jumping wards at a young age. Things get more serious when you buy a house and a lot of thought and prayer should go into where you move.
