  1. If it makes them happy, that’s great. My dad felt the same way I bet even though he was pretty young when it happened. I’m a “proud” American I guess. I‘m certainly grateful to have been born and raised here. One of my tattoos is of the American flag. I cheered when they captured and executed Usama Bin Laden. But I didn’t feel personal pride like I do with my accomplishments. After all, me sitting on the couch eating chips did nothing to find him.
  2. You are speaking right to me, but I don’t feel any pride about either getting the vaccine and certainly not for it’s development. I did nothing but get the shots. That’s not really anything to be proud of-but it’s not something to be ashamed of either.
  3. Same, though I think it’s incredibly depressing. It’s one thing to be arrogant, but there‘s something almost disturbing about mocking your supporters. It’s like when an artist shows up drunk and insults the fans who spent money to see them preform.
  4. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/02/16/business/media/fox-dominion-lawsuit.html even conservative leaders are laughing at their own party. It’s cruel.
  5. It’s @mirkwoods birthday today.
  6. A lot also don't want their personal lives to be brought up either. Who wants to relive the mistakes you made thirty years ago?
  7. The biggest/most socially influencing inventions of last century were the birth control pill and the shrinking of computers. For the Gen Xers/millennials it’s that we can carry a camera everywhere.
  8. I understand that. Again though in this political climate truth takes a back seat to what our personal politics are. Trump could have cured cancer and the left would complain about it. Now, it’s the rights turn to disbelieve everything. When a republican is back in office, the roles will all be the same with different actors.
  9. We agree on that totally bro.
  10. To be fair, if the government came out and said “The sky is blue” a large chunk of the population would say the same thing you did here, lol. I’m not saying the gov’ is right here or telling us everything. But the only thing worse then believing everything you are told is believing none of it.
  11. Speaking of snake oil, I have an essential oil that’ll help with your crippling depression.
  12. I think most young people don’t go to priests and bishops for mental health counseling because they (clerics) lack formal mental health training. This isn’t me being snarky, but I’m not asking a plumber to represent me in court for armed robbery. Come to think of it I think that’s the reason a lot of old people are afraid of mental health counseling. They might feel it undermines the authority of the church?
  13. There are absolutely legit reasons to think it’s a little silly.
  14. Btw, my guilty pleasure one is one I’ve mentioned before here, Rocky. Sure, it’s weird to see Rocky Balboa sing but it’s not all terrible.
  15. Hello Dolly is exactly what I was talking about. Maybe not the best musical of all time but one you enjoy. Great pick. The Music Man is one of my all time favorites, maybe number one. Every single song is a gem.
  16. @The Folk Prophet if I’ve already asked this I apologize, but after a quick search I couldn’t find the answer. Do you have any guilty pleasure musicals you enjoy? Some that may not be “elevated” or even good, but you enjoy them anyway? this goes for everyone of course.
  17. I know very little about spying, warfare etc. But how did a balloon make it all the way across America to Lake Huron? Shouldn't we have shot it down near California or New York or wherever it came over? Did Chinese sleeper cells release it over Chicago? Where is Brad Thor when you need him? I have questions!
  18. That makes me feel much, much better to hear that. No one deserves to suffer from depression.
  19. Two things- While I generally agree with both of you, we tend to focus on the negative when it comes to antidepressants. We ignore the success stories and focus on the times it didn’t work. I absolutely agree that someone can’t just gobble Prozac from their couch, never do anything and expect their mental health to magically improve. Is it the same with therapy? Do previous generations hate and fear it because they think it’s a crutch for laziness?
  20. Oh, we are. @NeuroTypical just proved it. Progress is always slower than we’d like but it’s better than moving backwards.
  21. @NeuroTypical-what is about therapy/mental illness that is so threatening to previous generations? Do they also feel intimidated by blood pressure medication? What are they afraid of? Not being funny, I don’t get it.
  22. It’s really not a head scratcher at all. It’s politics.
  23. Once again this shows how much the extreme left and extreme right have in common with one another. Fascinating how they can’t realize it though.
  24. Cost them members. I said it was a rumor and if I’m off, fine. But I remember hearing on a podcast that either church leadership or members themselves are worried that the church has gotten too “moderate” and their stance on the vaccine was the reason they used.
  25. I’ve heard that the church is worried that their promotion of the vaccine has done the same thing. All rumors of course.
