  1. Ignore.
  2. A lot of times people aren’t offended when you think they are. We put people in boxes because it helps us understand them. It also takes no effort, makes us feel good and moral, and reinforces our own views. So it’s a win-win-win for ourselves. We like to think everyone who doesn’t like or approve of us is just “offended easily” but in reality, usually the people claiming that everyone else is an “easily offended snowflake” are the most thin skinned people out there-but they never see it.
  3. My blood runs cold to see the rise of anti semitism. It‘s horrific.
  4. No, but I can think of a ton of passages that have to do with forgiveness and compassion.
  5. I’ve already told him, but @Vorts summary of the BOM is A+. To any lurkers out there-this will help you out big time if you get lost reading the BOM.
  6. I’m not a Trump supporter by any stretch but I’m also creeped out by states removing him from the ballot. Having said that, he wasn’t going to win Colorado or Maine anyway.
  7. Lol! That’s awesome.
  8. What’s interesting about it is that leftism never has acknowledged individual rights. It’s always been the American right who correctly talks the rights and freedoms of the individual. You aren’t wrong-it’s just weird.
  9. I missed that story. Yikes. I’m the worlds pickiest eater, and thank God for it. For the record, that wasn’t a real text exchange between @mirkwood and I.
  10. A conversation between @mirkwood and I when I tried to cook last night .
  11. One must have a heart of stone to not laugh at this!
  12. I just asked my Catholic friend about this. His response. Chaput is another bishop of a big East Coast city who got himself in hot water with Francis. It’s all in how you look at it. Dolan is a right winger compared to Francis but a moderate compared to the SSPX crowd.
  13. Little bit more complicated than that. To oversimplify, Francis is considered a liberal by Catholic standards and he’s incredibly petty. He makes me look forgiving and kind. Dolan is the “leader of the opposition” (again, oversimplification) and a noted conservative on hot topics. Francis is basically purging out conservatives before he dies* and Dolan is up next for madam de guillotine. *Francis is 86, and has said before he doesn’t have much time left.
  14. Happy New Year everyone!
  15. @Grunt- to combine this with the other thread, capitalism is the only economic system that turns greed into something that can benefit society. All other systems fail to do that.
  16. I’ve seen a ton of Libertarians post this. I know there are humorless libertarians out there but I love how the majority of us can laugh at our own beliefs
  17. @Grunt, @Traveler This is old, tongue in cheek but actually a great lesson on economics and the differences between the two schools. And the actor who plays Keynes looks oddly familiar. I’m 100% on team Hayek.
  18. You keep doing because you are a fighter bro. That’s awesome of you.
  19. Greed is absolutely sinful, but so is envy. In fact, I’ve noticed that greed is one of those sins that only the other guy has. To be fair, like the old saying goes we’re wonderful prosecutors for the sins of others and spectacular defense attorneys for our own sins-but this is very true when it comes to greed & envy.
  20. People are, of course, free to live in the past and if brings them joy, great. My fear is that they’ll only hurt themselves. Like it or not, time doesn’t move backward. You can’t go back in time any more then you can live forever.
  21. I totally agree with this. I think nostalgia is a liar. We over romanticize the past and we casually forget that even in the :: blech :: “good old days” (I absolutely hate that phrase) we still had problems, people still complained*, life was not easier… I could go on for pages about this. If I’m being totally blunt I think those who live in the past are like those “peaked in high school” types who talk about touchdowns they scored back in the day at the 30 year reunion because they’ve done nothing of merit in the last 30 years! * it’s important to remember that it’s all relative. If you want to go back to the 50’s, I’m assuring you that there were people in the 1950’s that were nostalgic for the 1920’s. And in the 1920’s, people whined and complained about how bad it was and that they wanted to go back to the 1890’s. And in the 1890’s…it’s not a “the good old days were better” issue. It’s a human psychology issue.
  22. My wife and I look for temples on road trips too! I’m sort of a geek and send pics to my friends when I see them.
  23. 100% correct.
