  1. Cellphones are great, as long as you get a reliable provider. And you want to make sure you get clear service while you're in your own home. Some towers have "blank spots" where the signal just misses, and a lot of times those can be homes. When I sold cellphones I had a customer tell me that she had a clear signal in one room, and no signal in another. A very distinct line. Cellphones don't have true caller I.D., that I'm aware of, but they do show the number that's calling on the screen. If they're saved in your contact list then the name you have for that number will show. (And for fancier phones, you can assign a picture, and the picture will show, too!) Many phones also have call-waiting built in, and most providers have voicemail standard. The major downside of cell phones is the 911 service. They're all required to be 911-capable (even if you don't have service, they are still required to be able to dial 911 if there's a charge it the battery.) You even get a nice federal 911 tax for that on your bill. But, unlike landlines, the cellphone doesn't say exactly where you are. Instead, it gives the 911 operators a GPS location. Now, if you're in a house, that's fine. But for people in apartment complexes... It can't tell them what room you're in, or what floor. Also, they can be easy to lose if you're not careful. And some of the more delicate models can break with one drop. The phones themselves are expensive to replace. And, the new Lithium Ion batteries are known to "explode" if they're dropped too hard. So if you have one with Li Ion and drop it... don't pick it up right away. Wait 30 seconds or so. Edit: I think you might be able to port landlines, which allows you to keep your old landline number. I'm not certain on this, you'll have to ask the guys you talk to about the phones. But, if not, changing your information that the docs have isn't too much of a hassle. If you only have a cellphone then that's your acceptable contact number. It's all I have, and it's what I use for docs, applications, ID, etc.
  2. In Jewish law you can wash a big all you want... Completely sterilize it... But it's still not Kosher. It's unclean. In parallel, those like the "dark" Lamanites are unclean. They are not Kosher, so to speak. When they are born again of the spirit, they become clean. They become Kosher. From the LDS standpoint, pigs are considered "Kosher." Okay to consume (unlike alcohol.) But do you think pigs changed color when that happened? Not likely. But rather, it's a change of the spirit.
  3. Welcome welcome. We have comedians every night, and on Tuesdays the veal is half-off. Absolutely delicious. Enjoy!
  4. So... Got daughter? Niece? Younger female relative?
  5. The Church is currently 25% convert. That's a big number. I hope we're not treated poorly! Often times when I make faux pas people would understand I didn't know better. They'd teach me, but they never seemed to judge me. I very often get thanks and appreciation for bearing my testimony.
  6. From my point of view: You're all lucky to have ever had the chance! *jealous* :)
  7. I don't have any good ones of me smiling rather than a smirk or a face... SO YOU GET MY BESTEST FRIEND AT HIS BEST. Man, I miss my cat.
  8. "Well, I was attempting a smirk, but I was glaring from the sun beating down on my face. Me + Sunlight = Glare" Is what I told Hemi! *grumbles*
  9. Spokane, eh? There was a great family in my old ward from their. But by the sounds of it there's a decent LDS population there, so you probably didn't know them!
  10. So... What all does the director do? Do they "lead" the music? (The whole hand-wavey thing that I can't figure out how to do!)
  11. Only if I fit it!
  12. Hmm. To the OP. When I think "modest," I think of someone who kind of "puffs down" their own abilities, rather than "puffs up." "Oh, he's just being modest." But when I think "immodest," I do think of clothing. I think immodest clothing has a lot to do with intent. Is it intended to look sexual, tempting, or provocative? Is it's purpose to "look good?" But where is the line drawn? Like in the dance recital... Is it merely artistic, or was it done so everyone looked good? If it's artistic, is that our current society's standard of artistic and acceptable, or more true to the roots of art? I've seen many friends who wear garments that become visible when they sit down wearing shorts. Are their shorts immodest? I can't tell. I do believe 2 piece swimsuits/bikinis are immodest, even though they're worn for a "purpose." But guys go out without shirts on, when swimming... And though I think that's immodest for doing yard work or jogging, for some reason I think it's okay for swimming! I think, overall, this is a good question.
  13. Are there active and inactive morons? Hey, have all the references to "fair" "white" been quoted already? I'd like to take a good look at all of them.
  14. Two things: 1) I have not put you down once. If that's what you're getting out of it, I'm really sorry. But that's not what I'm doing. I've been keeping quite cool (though still blunt) even though in every post you direct at me you have something negative to say about my character. I have not said anything about you. I do not dislike you. I do not wish anything malevolent towards you. There is one specific thing that I disagree with you about at this time, and I'm voicing that disagreement. So, again, if you're seeing something other than that, I'm sorry. It's not my intent. I'm not one to sugar-coat my responses. I leave them rather raw, but that's not something that happens with a negative intent, and not something directed strictly towards you. (As you've commented, it happens in many of my posts.) One more time. I'm being honest here. I don't want to seem as if I'm being sarcastic or anything. I've voiced my opinion and stated my side. If I said something that was actually a put down to you, I am sorry. I did not see it in my posts, but sometimes I am oblivious. 2) I just saw this: I'd say no. It's "tragic" not "magic." Asking for a world of hurt there!
  15. I bold the relevant portions. It's called "emphasis." I'm happy to agree to disagree. But condescending to me, calling me names, and calling me wrong, is not "agreeing to disagree." Giving me compliments in the midst of non-constructive criticisms isn't actually giving me compliments. And for the most part, I do agree with you. Your terminology is what I believe is wrong, not your beliefs. I have stated as such. I'm an artist. My main area of study is the human body, the figure. It's so complex, so beautiful, that it was a witness to me that Man was not just a creature of evolution, but the product of something Divine. The shapes and curves! The straights and corners! All combined into one pleasing appearance that's more than just a product of environment. I know I might be biased, but humans look good! And intelligence, sentience? There's something magical in that. The way children naturally develop language is absolutely sublime. And the sheer complexity of muscle, and bone, and veins, and organs, and neurons, all working together to form a functional body and personality... Astonishing. These are great and wondrous things! Magical! Awesome! Spectacular! And as I've studied the scriptures, and teaching in the Church, I've come to realize all of this is the power of God. The Priesthood, which holds the sun in place and causes it to shine so graciously upon us, is also responsible for all the beauty of this world. All good things come of the LORD. This I know. And these are good things.
  16. You misread them, Elph. That or they're typoing. You're Anti-Moron.
  17. Hmm. Back to the OP, I think it's good that I list 5 things. Today has been a good day so far. 1. I'm thankful I've been provided with a caring room mate that helps me out with more than just rent right now, but with getting me to the places I need to go to get things "set up." 2. I'm thankful that yesterday I was able to get some important things done. I managed to get my Utah license to replace my lost Iowa license. 3. I'm thankful that I am a physically able individual, and that I live close to certain places. I have been able to walk to Church, to Sonic's, my bank, and just this morning I walked 2 miles to go to a job interview (that, thankfully, went well.) 4. I'm incredibly grateful for the Ward I've been provided with. Two Wards just merged due to the Stake reorganizations. Now mine is large, with plenty of people, and I'm already on the track to making friends. I love the atmosphere there, and that we have strong Ward Prayer and Family Home Evening. I went to both, Sunday and Monday, and was just overwhelmed with comfort, joy, and the knowledge that I truly am with Brothers and Sisters. 5. I'm thankful, most definitely, for the Holy Ghost, which witnessed to me the existence of God, then the Priesthood and Christ. Recognizing that Truth has led me to know more Truth, and has led me to Utah, to a new home. It has guided me to safety and comfort, and has worked Its power on me to help me realize what I have to be thankful for. I love my Savior, and I'm so grateful that the Holy Ghost let me know about Him.
  18. I think "down time" like that is a great time for prayer. Usually I'm in a crowded place, so I just pray in my mind and heart, but it's very helpful and fulfilling.
  19. You're not even being consistent with your own argument. Does magic exist, or do magical gifts from God exist? Are the magical gifts in themselves magic? Or is what satan works magic?
  20. Goliath was of the same "people" as "The Watchers" He was after the flood, but the same "race." Which indicates to me that it's more than just genetics, but some sort of outside influence. However, I believe that someone descended from a giant could have easily been aboard the ark. We know that someone was a descendant of Cain. And knowing about recessive genetic traits...it could have been carried on even after that.
  21. My room mate and I have the same problem, lol. It's mostly me saying "I don't want to." Been in a funk lately where I don't feel like praying aloud with other people. So I've been making him do it. Otherwise, we just kinda take turns. If I bless supper, he does the night prayer, vice versa, etc. It's a very informal system that's not that great, actually, lol. But as long as the prayer gets said!
  22. Can you pay tithing under the table, too? lol!
  23. If money is a big thing for you (if you have need) then you might want to bring it up. As far as minimum wage... That's not applicable in casual jobs like babysitting. I understand you're just comparing it, but I just wanted to point that out. Other things to take into consideration are food. Do you have to bring your own, or are you allowed to eat from their food supply? If yes, you have to take that into account for "pay," especially with rising food costs. And, how do you like dealing with children? Do you find it rewarding? I absolutely love kids, and being able to work with them would help alleviate the "pain" of getting paid less.
  24. You have been warned multiple times about personal jabs and judgments. You get no more warnings. I never said YOUR beliefs are wishy washy, I said MINE are not. Once again you apparently demonstrate that you are not listening to what I am saying, and instead resort to Ad Hominem attacks to try and somehow counter my approach. And this has not been the only thread that you have treated me as such, and have not recognized what it is that I'm actually saying.
  25. Go ahead and base your opinion on the bad you see, I do not care. I know you do not look closely at everything to get the whole picture, anyway. I do not take my "beliefs" lightly. I will not treat them as mere beliefs when I have attained a knowledge of something. I will stand very firm in my knowledge, and will not treat it as "according to my beliefs" in some sort of wishy-washy political correctness. This comes off as arrogance or self-righteousness to some, and I'm fine with that. People are often offended these days when someone can claim sure knowledge. When I have an opinion, I will state it's an opinion. When I am not sure, I do absolutely say so. When someone is right, or I agree with them, I do not find it necessary to post a reply saying so, especially if someone else is already doing so. It's superfluous, unnecessary. When I post, it's because I actually have something to say. I will not reply to a long post in a debate and pick out every little thing the person has said, saying what I agree with and what I don't. If I don't reply to it, then it means I'm chewing on it, I agree, or I think the point is moot or is just ready to be dropped. I spend my time reading posts, and learning, more than I do commenting. My LACK of replying to each and every thing is EVIDENCE that I do listen and am trying to understand, thank you very much. To try and teach me that there is more than one side to every story, subject, or word is to debase my intelligence and my experience. I have often played several sides of one story, debated from multiple viewpoints of a subject, have always been considered an empathic individual, and am extremely capable when it comes to discerning the nuances of the multiple meanings of words in the English language. You call ME narrow-minded when you comment only on what YOU see, and what you WANT to see. You accuse me of the very same thing that you are doing. And throughout OUR dialogue you have consistently called my wrong and narrow-minded, and then you have said such things as "All things magical are a gift from GOD I wish you could see that...." which is AGREEING with what I have been saying. Which leads me to believe you simply don't understand my manner of speaking, or simply skim my posts and take out what you prefer to label as my opinion. And I have not called you wrong in your belief at all, I have been correcting you on the term you are using. If we were having a discussion on blue, as pertaining to the spectrum of light, you are doing the equivalent of talking about things that are colored blue, and not the light itself. And there is a difference there, and that's what I'm pointing out.
